Having international physical mobility as one of the important cores for global education, higher education institutions in Japan and elsewhere have had severe impact on global education due to COVID-19 pandemic happened in early 2020. This paper discusses pedagogy and learning outcomes of on-line global study programs organized during Japanese academic year 2020–2021, with the total of 41 students participated. Content analysis, pre-and post analysis, text mining are the main methods for this study. It was found out that students joined the on-line programs as preparation of actual study abroad in the future and also for the reference for their future career. Throughout the process of on-line global study programs, students realized the necessary competencies to be developed during their university life. Such competencies include multicultural understanding/communication, as well as overall English communication skills.

In this paper, the authors describe the changes in students’ awareness after undergoing 6 months of cross-cultural project-based learning. Participants from Tokyo Tech and Chulalongkorn Univ. were tasked with choosing a topic that is based on the broader theme outlined by the authors. For a duration of 6 months, the participants met at both university sites interchangeably, and engaged in multicultural group work. Through this process, the authors could identify differences of awareness between participants of Tokyo Tech and Chulalongkorn Univ., with students of the former gaining interest in social issues, and the latter focusing on proposals that could be adapted in their local communities. Furthermore, Tokyo Tech students recognized an increase in their English communication ability, while Chulalongkorn Univ. students felt a betterment in their existing abilities.

An analysis was made by using two case studies from Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, to highlight the effects of a Super-Short Type Study Abroad Program targeted for the undergraduate students majoring in science and engineering fields. Analysis on personal essays, a questionnaire survey and observational studies were used to assess how the mindsets of students on the selected indicators changed after the participation to the programs. As a result, it was found that the students who participated in the Study Abroad Program to Sri Lanka have felt that their communication and English speaking skills have highly improved after the program participation. Likewise, the students who participated in the Study Abroad Program to the United Kingdom have felt that they were highly motivated to pursue studies abroad, especially in the developed countries. While the contents in the specific programs have been instrumental in the changes of the student mindsets, it was interesting to notice that the changes or the improvements of the students could be explained by using the Expectation Theory.

This study aims to elucidate the current situation of regional environmental cooperation regime in Northeast Asia, by assessing the present status of five existing regional cooperation mechanisms through literature review and interviews. As a result, it was found out that there lacks coordination among five mechanisms in terms of their activities. Further, it was clarified that adiministrative operational system as well as decision-making system differ by each mechanisms. Also, it was understood that only limited level of cooperative norm has been formed for the solution of regional environmental problems. Moreover, it was indicated that different countries have taken different initiatives for each cooperation mechanisms with the various level of contributions.
