    ABSTRACT

    Cooperative adaptive cruise control, also known as vehicular platooning, has gained significant interest for its ability to enhance fuel efficiency and comfort in vehicle operations. This study proposes novel control strategies for vehicular platooning based on long short‐term memory (LSTM) neural networks. By learning temporal dependencies in vehicle behaviour, the proposed LSTM‐based controllers improve string stability within the platoon, particularly under varying velocity patterns of the lead vehicle. Two distinct frameworks are investigated: centralized and decentralized control models. The centralized model makes use of the states of all vehicles within the platoon, whereas the decentralized model focuses on the states of only a limited number of preceding vehicles. Simulation experiments demonstrate that both the centralized and decentralized LSTM controllers significantly outperform traditional, non‐LSTM‐based controllers in minimizing cumulative inter‐vehicle error. This study contributes a novel controller training methodology that integrates LSTM‐based architectures with optimal control principles, offering improved adaptability and flexibility in real‐time platoon management.

    Abstract

    A risk-aware decision-making problem can be formulated as a chance-constrained linear program in probability measure space. Chance-constrained linear program in probability measure space is intractable, and no numerical method exists to solve this problem. This paper presents numerical methods to solve chance-constrained linear programs in probability measure space for the first time. We propose two solvable optimization problems as approximate problems of the original problem. We prove the uniform convergence of each approximate problem. Moreover, numerical experiments have been implemented to validate the proposed methods.

    Abstract

    This article studies an algebra‐logic mixed representation of gate networks and its application to stuck‐at fault diagnosis. First, the gate network is characterized through a logic expression of disjoint sum‐of‐products, and the system structure of the gate network is described based on 2‐to‐1 multiplexers. Then, by resorting to the semi‐tensor product of matrices, a novel algebra‐logic mixed representation is proposed for the gate network through its logic expression and system structure. Furthermore, a novel stuck‐at fault diagnosis algorithm for the gate network is presented, where the stuck‐at fault testability of the gate network is equivalent to the solution existence of the system of linear equations. Finally, the fault diagnosis of the 4‐bit carry look‐ahead adder is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed theoretical approach and algorithms.

    In typical traffic scenarios where there are no clear separations between the traffic participants, such as mixed traffic or shared space, vehicles and pedestrians are usually moving in the same time so that ego vehicle may need to face with multiple pedestrians in a relatively short interaction distance. Considering the stochastic motion of pedestrians and to balance the time consumption and safety during passing process, this paper proposes two strategies of collision avoidance (CA) for ego vehicle, which are based on model predictive control (MPC) and social force model (SFM). Besides, a modified SFM-based pedestrian model that considers the stochastic motion is given to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed strategies. For MPC-based CA strategy, considering the unpredictable motion of the pedestrians, a novel speed re-planning layer combined with collision probability estimation, which is used to calculate an acceptable maximum safe speed for ego vehicle, is proposed. On the other hand, parameters associated with the SFM-based vehicle model are re-calibrated by particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the calibration process has been analyzed physically in details. The recommended values based on different initial interaction speed and distance of vehicle and pedestrians are also determined for further reference as useful findings from the analysis.

    本研究では、歩行者を対象に、仮想現実技術(VR)を利用して、道路横断時に接近車両の速度や距離を正しく認識する能力を高める歩行者横断教育システムを開発することを目的としている。
    令和5年度では、歩行者の危険な飛び出しの行動を解析するために、車速の認識、車道横断時の可否判断やその判断が正しいかを調査した。また、歩行者の行動モデル化に際して、横断時のデータだけでは不十分という結論に至り、道路沿いの歩行行動も含めて分析した。特に障害物を追い越す場面を想定し、シナリオも構築した。
    具体的には、Oculus Quest 2を使用したヘッドマウントディスプレイを用いて仮想空間を投影し、KATWALK mini Sを使用して仮想空間内で歩行を行った。このシステムでは、身体を背中のハーネスに固定し、足元のセンサーで足の動きを感知して自由に移動できるようにした。実際のシチュエーションは住宅街でのセンターラインのない道路を想定し、被験者は車に注意しながら障害物を追い越す行動を行った。データとしては、移動軌跡、歩行速度、体の向き、ヘッドマウントディスプレイの向き、歩車間距離、障害物との距離を測定した。被験者は12人で、それぞれ18回歩行した。
    令和6年度では、これらのデータを基に歩行者のモデル化を行い、ARグラスなどのウェアラブル型デバイスを使用した事故予防策を検討する。また、ウェアラブル型デバイスを仮想空間内に構築し、実験を行っていく予定。

    The aim of this research is to develop a modeling methodology for describing the external information and real-time traffic behavior, and to construct an optimal engine control strategy for improving efficiency of automotive powertrains by utilizing the model. In detail, engine and powertrain control-oriented predictive models of external environment are constructed by using Gaussian process, Bayesian learning and extreme learning machine. Then, with the models, several design approaches to optimal control of automotive propulsion system are developed that individually meet the driver's demand, driving route and the traffic environment. Furthermore, on-board control algorithms for combustion control and extremal seeking are proposed according to the optimal powertrain management and experiment validation is conducted with a production engine.
