    本年度は,昨年度から取組んでいる,従来のM凸関数(以下,MB凸関数)の定義を拡張してできる新たな関数(以下,MJ凸関数)についての研究を進展させた.本研究課題の主目的の一つは,MB凸関数で近似可能な関数を見出す問題に解答を与えることであり,その基礎付けとして,MJ凸関数がどれだけMB凸関数と同様の性質を持つかが重要と言える.なおMB凸関数とは,「離散凸解析」と呼ばれる,離散最適化の理論的枠組みを与える分野で室田らにより研究されてきた.
    具体的には,MJ凸関数に対する最小化アルゴリズムとして,昨年度に適用可能性を示した最急降下法に加え,領域縮小法の有効性を示した(「研究発表」の2番目).この領域縮小法は,最急降下法と同様,MB凸関数に対し既に確立された方法の拡張である.一方,この領域縮小法は,最急降下法と異なり,多項式時間アルゴリズムである.よって,この領域縮小法の確立により,MJ凸関数もまたMB凸関数と同様,効率的に最小化できる離散凸関数の一つだと主張できる.以上の結果は,東北大学の塩浦昭義助教授との共同研究である.
    本年度はさらに,関数近似および数値積分に対する高精度公式の誤差評価の研究も行った.これらは東京大学の杉原正顯教授,室田一雄教授との共同研究である。基本的な関数近似公式の一つにSinc関数と呼ばれる関数を用いた関数近似法(Sinc近似と呼ばれる)があり,数値積分公式もこの近似から導かれることが知られている.我々の研究では,この基本的な関数近似法および数値積分法を,適用対象となる関数の定義域の形に合わせて再構築し,それぞれの場合に基本的な場合と同様の誤差評価式が得られることを,数学的に厳密な不等式評価を以って示した.また,Sinc近似に対しては,Sinc関数を修正した関数を用いた変種を考えることもできる.そのような公式の一つに対しても,誤差評価式を導出した.
