大学卒業後は民間会社で働いたり,大学で仕事が見つかるまで12年間(1992-2004年)は,国際基督教大学,亜細亜大学,帝京大学,国際学友会日本語学校((独)日本学生支援機構 東京日本語教育センター)において非常勤講師として外国人留学生と海外帰国生に日本語を教えたりしてきました。
国際基督教大学大学院では,日本語教育における授業設計および評価について学び,電気通信大学大学院博士課程に進学して,eラーニング環境におけるCALL(Computer Assisted Language Learning)設計をテーマに博士研究をまとめました。
日本語教育,さらには,8年間の教育改善活動においても,情報通信技術の活用がどのような教育改善をもたらすのか,実践の場で検証することを目指しました。新しい環境でも,時間と場所の制約を受けない教育環境を実現し,教師と学習者に対してどのような教育効果を生み出すのかについてさらに研究をすすめていきたいと思います。

    The aim of the present study is to review mentoring competence through the course of a three-day intensive workshop, six consecutive meetings were conducted. With regard to the previous researches (Kato, Higashida, & Kaneda et al. 2018; Kato 2019), the author analyzed the same discussions at the final meeting at the same college of technology. She conducted the quantitative content analysis using Tiny Text-Mining tool (TTM), and found co-occurrence relation among the words based on a cluster analysis to elucidate the major different images of good mentorship between novice and experienced mentors. To elucidate different images of good mentorship between novice and experienced mentors, cluster analysis can be roughly classified into five clusters (mentoring process, reflection, comparison with others, mentor merits, value of TP) typically associated with the mentor–mentee relationship during the workshop. The statistical analysis revealed the following three points: (1) novice mentors confessed more their worries and difficulties about their mentoring and the value of creating teaching portfolios; (2) the experienced mentors explicitly reflected on and explained their difficulties and satisfaction in comparison with other mentors and mentees; and (3) both novice and experienced identified the merits for working as mentors.

    This article describes “lesson study” with utilizing the peer review system “FD Commons” in a Japanese university. The qualitative analysis of focus group interview in lesson study revealed the following three points : (1) professionals participating in this project expected that FDer advised her colleagues to improve their practices with her specific knowledge and skills of educational improvement, (2) the class images with reviewers’ comments, as feedback data from the system, were so impressive that lesson practitioners would be aware of severe teaching evaluation with no excuse, and (3) the new functions were needed to deal with class practitioners supportively and collaboratively by controlling and navigating review activities.

    This project promotes teacher collaboration for the professional development of Japanese language teachers. Practical activities in an e-portfolio and Learning Management System for six months, following which a focus group interview and questionnaires revealed the following: (1) participants did not have sufficient opportunities to communicate with each other; (2) young teachers were hesitant to express their ideas and opinions to senior participants; (3) continuing discussion among participants was needed to build and sustain a community of practitioners; and (4) e-teaching portfolio was the effective tools for focusing on and analyzing their own practices. Based on this practice, in the second period (Nov. 2012-May, 2013), participants were divided into eight sub-groups and were collaboratively conducting project work for student exchange and planning the seminar for local teachers through web sites.

    This paper addresses how the peer reviewing system (FD Commons) was used as an analytical tool to identify key principles and criteria for assessment of teaching and learning. In evaluation studies, four faculty members in Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) took part in the 6-month study as reviewers and conducted three evaluation studies to gain a broad understanding of how reviewers identified and recorded the educational events during "lesson study." Data were collected using qualitative and quantitative methods. From the results, the following three points were proved: (1) the faculty developer wrote more comments concerning methodology than lecture content, (2) the reviewer in specialized area suggested how to teach the contents more effectively than faculty developer, (3) the lecturer accepted the comments for class improvement from reviewers in 'lesson study' after class observation.

    The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic information about instructional activities for development of knowledge and information sharing system. At the first stage, we collected and classified descriptions of instructional activities for class teaching from five books of Japanese Language Teaching Methods. Major findings were as follows: 1) 294 instructional activities were classified into eight categories (level, area, skills, purpose, method, type, environment, resource) But some categories were not applicable to every instructional event. 2) Descriptions of instructional activities were classified into three types: steps of instructional procedures, concrete examples, and learners' problems. Half of instructional activities were described by means of concrete examples. 3) In the description of instructional activities, concrete examples were mainly used at basic level, but both instructional procedure and concrete examples were used at intermediate and advanced level.

    The purpose of this paper is to propose the framework of relevant leaning system for second language education based on both theoretical literature and the experimental data. Based on the experimental and theoretical data, non-prose information is used as relevant information for normative readers because it is more easily used than prose information. Our system is designed to provide normative students with necessary knowledge and practice that are relevant to understanding. Therefore it includes not only the partial supports for words and phrases, but also the total supports for readers' mental process of academic comprehension. In other words it intends to functionally integrate local/peripheral process that poses linguistic and graphical features and rule, and global/central process that activates readers' background knowledge. This integration of two teaching tactics could the integration of prose and non-prose information for effective reading comprehension for nonnative readers.

    本研究では,海外のKOSEN教員が,メンターである国内外の高専教育経験者と日本語教育専門家らと協力して,現地校の問題点を見つけ,現場に合わせた解決策を見出していく過程を「電子ポートフォリオ」として記録する。さらに,ポートフォリオ上に蓄積された教育データと高専式くさび型カリキュラムを関連付ける「活用指針」を明らかにして,現地に合わせた効果的なKOSENカリキュラムの開発,ならびに専門教員への教育能力開発に利用されることを目指す。
    2020年(初年度)は「工学カリキュラム班」と「日本語教育班」が中心となって,国内外の高専で行われている「くさび型カリキュラム」とその「教育実践例」を調査した。この調査に基づき,高専カリキュラムの目的の整理とその実現に効果的な教育実践例に対応づける「活用指針」を明らかにした。
    また,研究代表者,ならびに分担者が関与したティーチング・ポートフォリオWSに参加したメンター教員を対象として,メンタリング体験と他のメンターとの議論により,どのような学びと変化を得たかを明らかにすることを試みた。WSに参加したメンター12名から活動の振り返り記録を収集して質的分析法(SCAT)を用いて分析した結果,以下の3点が浮き彫りとなった。(1)メンター経験を通じて,メンティーを全面的に受け入れ,信頼関係を築くための態度と助言技術の重要性が指摘された,(2)メンター会議で,セカンド・オピニオンを得たり,メンティーに関わる付加情報を収集することでより的確なメンタリングを行うことができた,(3)他のメンターの実践活動を知り,スーパーバイザーから助言を得ることで,メンター自身が自己省察を深め,多面的に支援することがができた。

    The objective of this research is to promote teachers and supporters collaboration for curriculum articulation for foreign students in Japan.
    This study provides the examples with language skills for basic subjects and social skills for the foreign students with diverse expectations for job performance. Through collaboration between Japanese language teachers and primary and secondary school teachers, it is showed that the effective teaching does not only comprise a modest transmission of knowledge from teachers to students. In its place, it is soft skills are a necessity for teachers and supporters who toil in a high-performance setting, ultimately promoting efficiency. This project addressed an urgent need to take on the contest of globalization which is heavily reliant on the capacity of a nation's inhabitants. Goals of successful articulation are both to provide a smooth transition between levels, and, by so doing, to encourage retention up the curriculum.

    The purpose of this study is to provide teachers with an online collaborative space to improve teaching and learning. A six-month study of inquiry groups revealed the following two points: moderated groups with active facilitators improved group processes and provided impressive group outcomes; and participant-driven projects were attractive for participants who had insufficient opportunities to consult with other teachers. Successive trials before and after supervisory experiences of their mentees' teaching portfolios showed the following three points: mentor teachers were able to understand mentees actual expertise based on their educational philosophy by carefully reviewing the mentees’teaching portfolios; junior mentors could determine various career paths as a Japanese language teacher through reviewing their mentees’personal history; and defining short- and long-term objectives was an effective aid for mentees to plan their research for educational improvement.

    The teaching portfolio which is effective for an multi-dimensional evaluation and improvement of teaching, is gradually known to higher education community in Japan. In this study, we developed several systems and tools for sustainable and effective use of the teaching portfolio.

    We proposed a web system for providing fundamental information, supporting the workshop of developing the teaching portfolio, a workshop standard for assuring the quality of the workshop. We also developed a workshop for revising the teaching portfolio and one for developing an academic portfolio, a standard for ensuring the quality of the workshop and a check sheet for effective mentoring in workshops and a portfolio chart for assisting the development of the teaching portfolio.

    This project promotes teacher collaboration for the professional development of Japanese language teachers. Practical activities in an e-portfolio and Learning Management System for six months, following which a focus group interview and questionnaires revealed the following: (1) participants did not have sufficient pportunities to communicate with each other; (2) young teachers were hesitant to express their ideas and opinions to senior participants; (3) continuing discussion among participants was needed to build and sustain a community of practitioners; and (4) e-teaching portfolio was the effective tools for focusing on and analyzing their own practices. Based on this practice, participants were divided into eight sub-groups and were collaboratively conducting project work for student exchange and planning the seminar for local teachers through web sites.

    Authors developed an NLP (Natural Language Processing) based CSCL utterance analysis and semantic metadata attachment system. Conventional NLP software does not identify SVO metadata on single sentence, and relationship metadata among sentences. The proposing system supposes the metadata with use of conventional NLP and helps to identify them with use of analogical inference and user's data input.

    The purpose of the study is to examine optimal pitch contours for "sukizyanai<negative>" and "sukizyanai<affirmative>." These two forms are grammatically different ; "sukizyanai<negatibve>" is "sukizya(adjective) + nai(auxiliary)," "sukizyanai <affirmative>" is "suki(adjective stem) + zyanai(sentence final element)."
    Materials of the stimuli used in listening experiments were two of the recorded utterances, a negative and affirmative /skizyanai/, of a female professional speaker.
    The FO_s of /a/ and /nai/ in /skizyanai/s were analyzed, modified by a semitone and re-synthesized using Fujisaki's model. We made six varieties of FO_s for each vowel. In this way, we made 6 x 6 x 2 = 72 stimuli.
    In listening experiment A, the subjects were asked to decide whether each stimulus could be interpreted as a negative/affirmative utterance. In listening experiment B1 and B2, the subjects were asked to evaluate how good each stimulus was as a negative/affirmative utterance. The results can be considered as the subject's grading of the pitch contour of each stimuli.
    Characteristics of the pitch contours which were graded highly as negative/affirmative were as follows :
    1. Typical pitch contours of "sukizyanai<negative>" fall steeply from /i/ to /zya/, with a modest peak corresponding to /nai/.
    2. Typical pitch contours of "sukizyanai<affirmative>" have a smoother curve.
    3. When FO of vowel /a/ is high, the pitch contours tend to be evaluated as affirmative. When FO of vowels /a/ and /ail are low, the pitch contours tend to be evaluated as negative.
    In the second year, we examined the effects of magnitude of the speech on the negative-affirmative decision and found that the pitch contours had far greater effects on the decision.
    The results also showed that the FO_s of the all vowels are relevant to interpretation of /skizyanai/.

    平成18年度の研究実績は以下のとおりである。
    平成17年度に行った「基礎科学技術ライティングの授業」で提出された文章を分析し,その結果を日本語教育学会で発表した。分析の結果の中に留学生が自分では学びにくい日本語の問題があった。それは基礎的な科学用語とそれと共起する動詞を知らないために辞書で探した不適切な動詞を使用するという問題である。例えば,留学隼の書いた文の中には「酸素と炭素が結合して,二酸化炭素を生産する」というような文がある。また,日本語学習用の教科書には,理系の学生に必要な科学用語はほとんど出現しないため,研究活動のための日本語を十分に学べないという問題がある。大学では高度の専門用語は英語等が使われるが,基礎的な科学用語はほとんどの場合,日本語を使用している。このような問題を解決するために,複数の日本人学部生に高校の教科書を参考にしての科学用語(本研究では,数学,物理、化学のみ)のデータベースを作成してもらった。このデータベースには,以下のような語彙をリストアップした。
    1.科学用語(名詞)とそれと共起する動詞とその例文
    2.「する」と結びついて動詞となる科学的用語とその例文
    3.その他,理系の学生であれば,当然知っておくべき重要基礎用語(名詞)
    このデータベースにさらに英語訳を追加する作業を進めている。この作業が終了した後に
    日本語→英語(留学生用)
    英語→日本語(日本人学生用)
    の2種類の用語集を作成し,Webで公開する予定である。
