He received the B.E. degree in computer science in 2010, and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in communications and computer engineering in 2012 and 2014 from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, respectively.
From April 2012 to September 2014, he was a Research Fellow (DC1) of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing, Tokyo Institute of Technology. Since 2016, he has also been a Researcher with Precursory Research for Embryonic Science and Technology (PRESTO), Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST), Tokyo, Japan. His research interests include image processing, signal processing, mathematical optimization, and data science.
Dr. Ono has been an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks since 2019. He received the Young Researchers' Award from the IEICE in 2013, the Excellent Paper Award from the IEICE in 2014, the Outstanding Student Journal Paper Award from the IEEE SPS Japan Chapter in 2014, the Yasujiro Niwa Outstanding Paper Award from Tokyo Denki University in 2015, the Seiichi Tejima Doctoral Dissertation Award from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2016, the TELECOM System Technology Award from the Telecommunications Advancement Foundation in 2016, and the Funai Research Award from the Funai Foundation in 2017.

本研究は、分野横断的国際チームを構築し「データ駆動型AI」と「AI駆動型センシング」を融合した、超高効率センサネットワークシステム~グリーンIoT~のための基盤技術を構築することを目的とする。具体的には、日本・米国の両チームが協力して1)推定精度と消費資源のトレードオフを実現できるグリーンIoTデータ解析基盤の創出、2)データ量、ノイズ強度、パラメータ数に応じて柔軟かつ連続的にアルゴリズムを自動調整できる信号処理・機械学習サブシステムの構築、3)グリーンIoTのための超低消費電力通信技術に関する研究を行う。さらに、日本側チームでは、4)ハイパーモーダルスマートセンサの開発、5)実データによる理論の検証と解析を考慮に入れた計測デザインも行う。両国チームによる研究により、ハードウェアからソフトウェアまで一気通貫にグリーンIoT技術を実現することにより、次世代IoTのための基盤技術の創成が期待される。また、日本側チームの研究代表者・主たる研究分担者を含む若手研究者の国際的な交流により、今後数十年に渡る世界のトップ研究者ネットワークへの参画が期待できる。

本年度は、データリザレクション（DR）―データを効率的に計測し、そこからノイズや劣化を取り除き計測対象の情報全体を「蘇生」する一連のプロセス―のための最適化問題として，一般性を保ちつつ求解可能な目的関数や制約条件の構成を検討し，分散最適化アルゴリズムのプロトタイプを構成した．代表的な成果として、主-双対近接分離法に基づく分散センシングのためのセンサ配置アルゴリズムを開発するとともに、ハイパースペクトルイメージング、時系列衛星イメージング、材料イメージング等の、実計測問題へ応用展開した。
