    チエノイソインジゴ骨格はキノイド構造の寄与が大きく、近赤外光吸収特性を示す有用な骨格である。本年度はチエノイソインジゴ骨格を用いて、キノイド化したチエノイソインジゴ骨格の合成を試みた。ベンゼン環及びチオフェン環のグリニャール試薬を用いて、チエノイサチンの2量体への付加、還元反応を経由して、標的であるキノイド型チエノイソインジゴ骨格の合成に成功した。また単結晶構造解析を行い、結合交代や電子構造を詳細に調べキノイド構造の形成を明らかにした。またこのキノイド型チエノイソインジゴ骨格をベースに、ジケトピロロピロール骨格及びチエノイソインジゴ骨格との共重合ポリマーの合成に成功した。これらのポリマーは、狭いエネルギーギャップを持ち近赤外光吸収特性を示す。特にチエノイソインジゴをベースにしたポリマーは、電界効果トランジスタにおいてゲート電圧を印可することなく、比較的高い電気伝導性(10-3 S/cm)を示した。これはキノイド構造導入により、フロンティア軌道がポリマー鎖内での非局在化に起因することを明らかにした。
    現在の有機エレクトロニクスはバイオメディカル分野への応用研究が積極的に行われている。世界の研究の方向性を踏まえ、共役系を水素結合形成可能な側鎖で切断したモノマー(CBユニット)を、ポリマー主鎖中の特異構造と捉えて、この特異構造部位に収縮性を持たせる分子設計を行い新規ポリマーの合成に成功した。特に水素結合の強さとポリマー薄膜における応力緩和機構を調べた。その結果ユリア結合の導入が、応力緩和に効果的であることを見出した。さらに合成したポリマーはフルストレッチのトランジスタを作成したところ、伸縮に対して優れた移動度(10-1 cm2/vs)を示した。

    As a versatile electron-accepting units, diazaisoindigo and thiadiazole-fused quinoxalineimide molecules have been developed. Thiadiazole-fused quinoxalineimide molecules exhibited air stable n-channel field-effect transistor performance attributed to low-lying LUMO level.
    We have developed novel hole-transporting thienoisoindigo polymer and electron-transporting thiadiazole-fused quinoxalineimide bearing very low energy gap. The photothermoelectric conversion device utilizing these polymers displayed efficient energy conversion from near infrared light (NIR) of 1700 nm to respective p- and n-channel thermoelectric power.

    Recently, rapid progress has been made in organic semiconductor research. However, understanding of the basic properties such as carrier transport mechanism is not sufficient. We developed novel methods to investigate the electronic devices based on the spectroscopic measurement. We successfully visualize the carrier transport by using fluorescence decay imaging, and we could analyze the anisotropic carrier transport property. For the organic thin film transistors with ferroelectric gate insulator, we could observe the strong relationship between the polarization in the ferroelectric layer and the electric field in organic semiconductor.

    In this study, we have designed and synthesized hole-transport thienoisoindigo (TII) based polymers bearing near infrared region absorption arising from narrow energy gap. The long wavelength absorption specifically characteristic of TII polymers is coming from quinoidal structure of TII unit. In addition, we have developed useful synthetic approach for large scale preparation of H-intact TII unit at the N-position. Of particular note is that H-intact TII unit has the synthetic diversity to attaching various types of solubilizing side-chain groups. In the single crystal, H-intact TII form densely packed two-dimensional conduction path via intermolecular hydrogen-bonding, resulting in higher ambipolar performance in organic field effect transistors (OFETs) than that of N-substituted TII. Notably, H-intact TII substituted with flanking phenyl group exhibits well balanced hole and electron mobilities of 0.1 cm2/Vs.

    New donor-acceptor TTF small molecules, in which the central TTF framework as a donor is fused with quinoxalinebisimide as an accepting unit at both end, have been prepared. These molecules have n-type character with small energy gap suitable for solar cell application. The bulkheterojunction devices composed of the n-type TTF small molecules and p-type polyhexylthiophene show power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.04%.
    In addition, new thienoisoindigo based small molecules end-capped with benzothiophene or benzofuran have been prepared for field-effect transistors and bulkheterojunction solar cells. The devices in FETs show ambipolar performance with balanced both hole and electron mibilities (10-2 cm2/Vs), and the devices in solar cells give power conversion efficiency of 2.4%. These performances are relatively high among the small molecular semiconductors.
