    Antiferroelectric materials have recently received renewed attention due to the increased demand for energy-storage ceramics and power electronics applications. This study demonstrates antiferroelectricity in a titanite-type oxide, SrTiGeO5, through direct observation of a double D-E hysteresis loop by polarization measurements. Temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity shows a cusp around 550 K, indicating a relatively high antiferroelectric phase transition temperature for SrTiGeO5. It is suggested that an electric-field-induced rise of permittivity in SrTiGeO5 has the potential for application in protective circuits of power electronics devices. The present study paves the way for the development of innovative antiferroelectric applications.

    <p>Our group has recently found improper ferroelectric materials in aluminate-sodalite-type compounds that belong to a zeolite-family. The aluminate-sodalite-type compounds are mainly composed of eco-friendly elements, which are ubiquitous in the earth's crust. A conventional strategy for the development of ferroelectric materials is based on perovskite-type compounds, leading to many practical applications for device elements such as capacitors and frequency filters. Aluminate-sodalite-type ferroelectrics, on the other hand, show excellent performance for pyroelectric energy harvesting, which exceeds that of lead-based perovskite-type compounds, indicating the potential of non-perovskite-type ferroelectrics for functional materials. Here we give an overview of the improper ferroelectricity in aluminate-sodalite-type compounds and discuss their performance for pyroelectric energy harvesting in connection with their improper ferroelectricity.</p>

    BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The COPD Assessment Test (CAT) has been reported to have potential utility for measuring health status of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Although the CAT has been developed for the assessment of COPD patients, it has not been fully evaluated exclusively in IPF. This study was designed to evaluate the validity of the CAT in IPF. METHODS: The clinical data for 106 consecutive subjects with newly diagnosed IPF who completed pulmonary function tests, partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood (PaO2 ) at rest, 6-min walk test (6MWT), CAT, St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnoea grade and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), were analysed. We assessed the validity of the CAT in comparison with the SGRQ. RESULTS: The present subjects showed mild to moderate restrictive impairment on spirometry. Mean CAT score and total SGRQ were 12.8 ± 8.0 and 30.8 ± 17.7, respectively. The concurrent validity of the CAT score in comparison with the SGRQ total score was significant (r = 0.72, P < 0.001). Internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.869) and repeatability over 3 months (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.742) of the CAT were also significant. Single regression analysis showed that the CAT had significant construct validity. In multiple regression analysis, mMRC, PaO2 at rest, minimum SpO2 during 6MWT and anxiety of HADS were independent predictors for the CAT. CONCLUSIONS: The CAT is a valid health status measurement in IPF patients. Multiple regression analysis showed that the CAT was significantly correlated with dyspnoea severity, oxygenation impairment and anxiety.

    &lt;p&gt;Bi_2_SiO_5_は室温以上で強誘電性を示すシリケート化合物である。本研究ではBi_2_SiO_5_中のBiをLaで1%〜10%置換した試料を作製し、誘電率測定を行った。その結果、La置換による相転移のブロード化が観測され、置換率3%で相転移が消失した。相転移が消失した試料では100〜500 Kにわたって温度変化がほとんどない、高誘電率(ε&#039; 〜 100)が得られた。講演では、誘電応答の起源を格子ダイナミクスの観点から議論する予定である。&lt;/p&gt;

    Phonon properties of lead titanate were investigated by measuring polarization-direction dependence of Raman intensities. Quantitative angle-resolved Raman spectroscopy is advantageous for detecting anisotropic nature of the sample material since that reflects the symmetry of vibrational modes. In this study, a broadband half-waveplate was utilized to establish high quantitativity, stability, and spatial reliability of the angle-resolved measurement.

    An unconventional pseudo-tetragonal crystal structure is found in a BaTiO3 epitaxial thin film grown on a (110)SrTiO3 substrate. The unique crystal structure of the BaTiO3 film, which is markedly different from the bulk tetragonal structure, is caused by the nearly uniaxial strain due to the different strain relaxation along [001] and [1<span style="text-decoration: overline;">1</span>0] axes.

    PMN relaxor is shown to be a nanosized ferroelectric from the polarization, lattice dynamics and transmission electron microscopic measurements. Its ferroelectric state broken in nanosized domains due to the quenched random field was clearly observed by aligning the domains along the same direction by a strong electric field for T<T_c〜225K. The reorientation of such nanosized domain is found to be essential for its giant dielectric response. In addition, a multiscale inhomogeneity of domain structure is found in the ferroelectric phase, in which many nanosized domains align together to form a single larger 'domain'.

    Vitreous BaTi2O5 (BTO-glass) fabricated by a containerless method shows gigantic dielectric anomaly, epsilon' approximately 10(exp 7), in the crystallization at around 1000 K. The BTO-glass is studied by Raman scattering method in order to reveal an origin of the dielectric anomaly. A gradual and obvious change of Raman spectrum from broad peaks to established sharp peaks is observed in the crystallization process.     本研究課題では、誘電物性、量子物性、電子伝達特性に着目し、高誘電率高信頼性キャパシタや誘電体マルチチューナビリティの創出、未来エネルギー材料の創製、次世代の触媒反応系の構築、そして光合成反応における高効率電子伝達機構の完全理解の実現に向けて、優れた機能性を備えた超秩序構造の探索と設計、そして超秩序構造の機能性-構造相関の究明に取り組んでいる。2021年度は次に示す項目を実施した。①Nb+X (X = Al, Ga, In) 複合置換ルチル型TiO2の単結晶育成・組成分析・誘電特性評価およびNb単置換置換ルチル型TiO2の単結晶育成・誘電特性評価(谷口グループ)、②水溶性乳酸錯体を利用したアモルファス金属錯体法によるα-アルミナ表面での結晶性BaNb2O5微粒子の簡便な合成法の開発およびそれを利用したキシロースからの高選択性フルフラール合成(中島グループ)、③高温用圧電材料(Ca,Sr)2MgSi2O7の高品質結晶化、希土類イオンドープメリライト型結晶のバルク化、Liイオン電池負極材候補材料TiNb2O7のバルク結晶化、光誘電体Zn:BaAl2O4のホスト材料であるBaAl2O4のバルク結晶化(武田グループ)、④トポロジカル絶縁体Sb2Te3-ySeyの圧力下での超伝導相実現と構造転移の解明およびβ-PdBi2の蛍光X線ホログラムから結晶構造の決定(久保園グループ)、⑤フェレドキシン(Fd)が持つ[2Fe-2S]金属クラスターの蛍光X線ホログラフィによる解析およびFdによる電子伝達機構の解明を目指した超高分解能X線構造を用いた理論計算(田中グループ)、⑥高圧下その場蛍光X線ホログラフィ測定用高開口ダイヤモンドアンビル装置の開発・圧力印可によるシリカライトおよびアモルファスアルミナの1mmサイズガラス透明バルク体の合成(佐藤グループ)。

    We have developed a new reaction system for the production of furan dicarboxylic acid and its alkyl esters from glucose using heterogeneous catalysts. The combination of materials science and catalytic chemistry will enable the design of new catalytic materials and catalytic reactions, while theoretical calculations for clarifying reaction dynamics with catalytic active site and substrate/intermediates will support experimental results to be well-understood at the molecular level. Acetal protection strategy will control side reactions and contribute predominantly to the selective production of target furan compounds in concentrated solutions. The technologies developed in this research can be beneficial for the industrial implementation of the furan compounds in the production of biobased polymers.

  • 光誘電効果のメカニズム解明と新しい光機能性誘電体素子材料の創出

    優れた光誘電効果を示す物質(光応答性誘電体)の新規開発と、光誘電効果のメカニズム解明が本研究課題の最終的な目標である。それに向けて本年度は、①還元焼成によって酸素欠損を意図的に導入したLaAlO3の多結晶及び単結晶の合成と光誘電効果の検証を実施した。さらに、第一原理計算によって、還元焼成LaAlO3中に生じる欠陥の同定に取り組んだ。また、②Ba(Al1-xZnx)2O4における光誘電効果のZn置換率依存性を調べるとともに、分光エリプソメトリの援用によって10^12-10^14Hzの高周波数帯域での光照射下誘電測定を実施した。
    <BR>
    ①では、還元焼成LaAlO3多結晶において誘電率変化120%にも及ぶ巨大な光誘電効果の創出に成功した。また第一原理計算によって、本研究で採用した合成条件下ではLa欠陥と酸素欠陥の対が最も安定に生じる欠陥であり、そのうち酸素欠陥が光誘電効果に主要な役割を果たすことを示唆する結果を得た。一方、還元焼成LaAlO3単結晶では光誘電効果を観測されなかった。これに関しては、多結晶と合成する条件が違うため生成する欠陥種が異なる可能性が考えられる。次年度以降、単結晶合成の条件と光誘電効果の相関を詳細に調べる必要がある。
    <BR>
    ②では、Zn置換率5%のBa(Al1-xZnx)2O4(x = 0.05)多結晶試料において、誘電率変化30%の比較的大きな光誘電効果を得ることに成功した。また、分光エリプソメトリによる光誘電効果測定では、LCRメータによる通常誘電測定で少なくとも10^6Hzまで観測される光誘電効果が、10^12Hz以上の周波数領域では観測されないことを明らかにした。この結果は、光誘電効果の起源としてGHz領域に緩和周波数を有する光誘起電気双極子の可能性を提起している。

    当初の研究計画に則り、Bi2SiO5を軸として、異種元素置換による新規強誘電体物質系の探索を継続して実施した。層状シリケートであるBi2SiO5系化合物は熱力学的準安定相で通常の固相反応法による合成は不可能であるため、試料合成に関しては化学量論比のBi-Si-O融液を急冷して得たアモルファスを加熱して再結晶化することで実施した。系統的な組成スクリーニングの中で特にBiサイトを一部Laで置換した物質系において良好な誘電測定が得られたため、(Bi,La)2SiO5に関してLa置換量を詳細に刻みつつ誘電測定を実施した。その結果、Laを10%置換した試料において、100K-600Kの広い温度領域で1%未満の誘電損失を保ちつつ比誘電率120以上を示すという極めて優れた誘電特性を得るに至った。また、Bi2SiO5においてフランスESRFの研究グループと共同でX線非弾性散乱実験および圧力印加下の単結晶構造解析を実施し、強誘電性と反強誘電性の競合によるユニークな構造不安定性を見出した。
    <BR>
    一方、充填ゼオライト型化合物に関してはM8[AlO2]12(XO4)2の一般組成で表されるアルミネートソーダライト型化合物に焦点を絞って系統的な物質合成、誘電測定、動的粘弾性測定、放射光X線粉末構造解析を実施し、新規機能性材料探索に取り組んだ。その結果、(Ca1-xSrx)8[AlO2]12(MoO4)2のCa-rich組成領域(x~0.20)において新奇な歪みガラス状態を、Sr-rich側の組成領域(x~0.60)において新奇な擬リエントラント構造相転移を見出すに至った。

    Conducted in the present study is the development of new functionality which can control dielectric properties by photoirradiation. We have discovered the instantaneous photo-dielectric effect in La(Al0.99Zn0.01)O3, the 1% of Al-sites in LaAlO3 are substituted by Zn ions, where the dielectric permittivity increases under the photoirradiation and immediately recovers to the initial value when the photoirradiation ceases. The persistent photo-dielectric effect has furthermore been found in Ba(Al0.97Zn0.03)2O4, in which the increase of permittivity remains after switching the photo-irradiation off. The results of the present study open a new realm of light-matter interactions and form the foundation for the development of innovative photo-electric devices.

    The present study has succeeded, through the elucidation of the mechanism of ferroelectricity in the layered-silicate-type new ferroelectric oxide Bi2SiO5, to develop the new materials-designing-principle for eco-friendly ferroelectric oxides with oxygen-tetrahedra, which is the most abundant form of oxides in the earth's crust. Based on fundamental knowledge obtained in the present study, the development of new functional oxides were conducted in stuffed-tridymite-type and stuffed-sodalite-type oxides. In these oxides, the improper-ferroelectricity, which does not show typical steep increase of permittivity around the ferroelectric phase transition temperature, was successfully controlled, to achieve, particularly in the stuffed-sodalite-type oxides, the excellent performance for pyroelectric IR-sensors that come up with that in the current material, PZT.

    In this study, we tried to reveal relationship between soft-mode and chemical-bonding in ferroelectric phase transition by collaboration between first-principles calculations and precise experiments. We find out the mechanism of giant permittivity of BaTiO3 using newly developed finite temperature simulation. The origin of this giant permittivity is presence of soft-mode with very low potential barrier in BaTiO3. Our findings provide us with an important insight for high permittivity materials design.

Using the method which was developed by this study, we revealed ferroelectric structure of CdTiO3.In this study, we determined ferroelectric soft-mode and its displacement vector of CdTiO3.Using this information we determined its ferroelectric structure.

    Strategy for lead-free ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials with perovskite-type structure was obtained based on the new idea based on the chemical bonds and crystal structures. As a result, many candidate materials were found out as well as new interpretation on the mechanism for the evolution of known ferroelectric materials. Thin films of novel compounds, which are not available by the conventional solid state technique, were also successfully obtained by the pulsed laser deposition technique.

    本年度は、不均一性に由来する巨大応答物性の起源を相転移におけるディスオーダー効果の観点から解明すべく、特にソフトモード型強誘電体として知られるABO_3型強誘電体の臨界挙動を、共焦点顕微ラマン分光法によって研究した。その結果、量子揺らぎが相転移物性を支配すると考えられてきた量子誘電体SrTiO_3において酸素同位体置換によって理論的な予測を実証する理想的なソフトモード型の量子相転移を誘起することを明らかにし、更にその量子臨界点において新奇な相分離状態を発見した。更に、ソフトモード型強誘電体におけるディスオーダー効果を正確に理解する為の基礎となる、典型的な均一系ソフトモード挙動を示す物質を物質合成の観点から新たに探索し、その結果、現在まで複雑な相転移挙動を有すると考えられそのメカニズムが未解明であったCdTiO_3において、典型的なソフトモードの臨界挙動を新たに発見し、CdTiO_3極めてシンプルな二次相転移を有する典型的ソフトモード型強誘電体であることを発見した。これまで強誘電体単結晶における分光学的研究は、相転移後に発生する複雑なドメイン構造によって精密な研究が困難な例が多く、これが物理的本質の理解を妨げていたが、本研究では共焦点法の応用によってこれを克服し、物性研究における分光学的研究の技術を大きく進展させた。更にこの技術を、強誘電体ガラスの結晶化過程の研究にも適用し、新規高屈折率ガラス材料として期待されているBaTi_2O_5ガラスの逐次結晶化過程を解明した。

    量子常誘電体SrTiO_3が示す同位体誘起強誘電性は、量子揺らぎの制御による強誘電性の誘起に成功した初めての例として非常に多くの注目を集めている。同位体誘起強誘電性のメカニズムを解明することは、これまで熱揺らぎの範疇で議論されてきた誘電物性において、量子揺らぎと強誘電性の協力的相互作用の拮抗という新たな図式を与えることになり、極めて意義深い。
    本研究では平成16年度において、^3He蒸発冷凍光学セルを用いた極低温光学測定系を構築し、600mkに至るまでの極低温光散乱測定を可能にした。その結果、低温領域において同位体置換による強誘電性ソフトモード振動数の低下を観測し、同位体誘起強誘電性の誘起機構としてソフトモードに対する質量効果を示した。同時に、前駆現象として局所対称性の低下した非強誘電性の領域(LSBR)の成長を明らかにし、同位体置換したSrTiO_3の誘電物性において系の不均一性が本質的な役割を担っていることを示した。その結果に基づいて本年度は、臨界置換率直下の同位体置換試料を作成し、ソフトモードのダイナミクスをラマン散乱測定によって観測することで、同位体誘起強誘電性の発現初期段階を系の不均一性との関連から調べた。その結果、同位体誘起強誘電性の発現初期過程においてソフトモードが局所的に凍結することによって局所的な強誘電性の領域が発生することを明らかにした。これによって、"ソフトモードが凍結しない量子常誘電性⇒ソフトモードの非一様な凍結による局所強誘電性⇒ソフトモードの一様な凍結による長距離強誘電性"という酸素同位体誘起強誘電性の全体像を示した。
