    BACKGROUND: This study examined the relationship between the disciplinary diversity of research teams and research output (RO) in allergy and immunology programs funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States, Medical Research Council (MRC) in the United Kingdom, and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). METHODS: Using a dataset containing 1243, 3645, and 1468 articles funded by the NIH, MRC, and JSPS, respectively, we analyzed the correlation between disciplinary diversity and RO in allergy and immunology programs that received grants from 2017 to 2021. Diversity was measured using All Science Journal Classification codes counts, Shannon-Wiener index, and newly developed Omnidisciplinary index (o-index). The impact of diversity on RO was evaluated Normalized Paper Count (reflecting research quantity), Normalized Top 1% Paper Count (reflecting research excellence), and Normalized Top 10% Paper Count (reflecting research substantiality). RESULTS: There were no significant differences in diversity between the funding agencies, indicating a marginal relationship between team composition and RO (p = 0.641 for Shannon-Winner index). RO was positively correlated with team diversity in NIH- and MRC-funded programs and positively correlated with the degree of specialization in JSPS-funded programs. CONCLUSIONS: These results underscore the complexity of the relationship between research team diversity and RO and the influence of contextual factors such as country-specific characteristics and grant program objectives. Specifically, the analysis of JSPS-funded groups suggests that the degree of specialization has a greater impact on RO than disciplinary diversity. This study contributes to ongoing efforts to optimize team composition to improve RO in allergy and immunology programs.

    As the proportion of older adults increases globally, raising healthy life expectancy is becoming an urgent issue. To address this, shifting the medical system from conventional disease treatment to disease prevention, early diagnosis, and early treatment is desirable. It is necessary to utilise digital technologies not only to acquire and visualise health-related data, but also to link it to people’s behavioural changes. However, there is a limit to the extent that individuals can change their behaviour and maintain their health through their own efforts. A social system is required to achieve behavioural changes with the support of the surrounding environment. This should be a platform service encompassing various stakeholders. In this study, we perform a system design on how to construct a behavioural change platform (BCPF) service to promote behavioural changes based on the support of the surroundings, and how to make it into a platform service. First, the system structure of the BCPF service is described using object process methodology to identify main objects, processes, and system boundaries. Second, customer value chain analysis is conducted to identify the primary value streams among service providers and users of the BCPF service as stakeholders. Finally, the number of BCPF service users over time is simulated using system dynamics. We find that the number of BCPF service users effectively increases by improving vital data which directly related to the reduction of the morbidity rate of target diseases and by conducting appropriate promotions that lead to the reputation of this service.

    This study conducted pretotyping to explore the development of a non-medical multi-sided digital healthcare platform, focusing on health services in office environments. We set up a proof-of-concept experiment simulating a virtual platform experience that combined multiple monitoring services and health-related services. The study revealed the importance of pre-establishing data governance agreements among participating businesses, the management functions required of the platform operator, user needs, and ethical challenges. Based on these findings, we organized key perspectives for constructing the platform and demonstrated the usefulness of pretotyping in this context.

This article provides the futures of these databases and tools and explanation about their relationship. We also consider the importance for institutions of constructing integrated data management system and decision-making process in order to promote research.</p>

    Here, the main research results are described. Detailed reports were published on the website "Research Capability Analysis Metrics Project Report" https://www.ruconsortium.jp/site/tf/248.html). In this study, when comparing research capabilities as group performance in universities, we found that there are research capabilities that cannot be captured only by conventional indicators of "quantity" and "quality", and we defined this as "Atsumi". We proposed the institutional h5-index as one of the indicators to measure the "Atsumi" of university research capabilities. In addition, we proposed new indicators to measure internationality and indicators to measure research results in humanities and social sciences.

    The purpose of this study is to propose research evaluation metrics and model of strategic planning and management in research. We investigated organizations for research evaluation and process of research strategic planning. We also studied Research Excellence Framework (REF) which is a system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. REF does not use quantitative indicators to assess research performance because they concluded that quantitative indicators are not currently feasible. This suggests that assessment of institutions for funding by government should be distinguished from analysis of research performance by each institution.

    In recent years, the number of research grants has increased in Japan. This research aims at presenting models of research administration systems to reduce clerical burden on researchers and promoting exchanges views and information between research administrators. In this purpose, we carried out a questionnaire survey on employment situation and systems in Japan. We also investigated research administration in U.S. and compared to current Japanese situation. To build networks among research administrators in Japan, we established "Japan Research Administration Meeting (JRAM)".

    We analyzed the inputs and outputs of neuropeptide Y (NPY) neurons and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) neurons. NPY neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate : nucleus (ARC) were activated by ghrelin and inhibited by leptin. Leptin, via PI3 kinase and PDE3 signaling pathway, counteracted the action of ghrelin in NPY neurons. The integration of the two hormones determined the activity of NPY neurons and the feeding behavior. GK rats, a model of type 2 diabetes, showed young-adult specific hyperphagia, which was caused by elevated expression of NPY mRNA in the ARC, suggesting the pathophysiological role of the ARC NPY neurons.Central injection of BDNF increased expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and urocortin in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), and thereby inhibited feeding and enhanced energy expenditure via CRH-R2 receptors. A new anorectic peptide, nesfatin-1, was abundant in PVN and colocalized with CRH, suggesting that nesfatin-1 could serve as a regulator of BDNF-CRH system.

    Ghrelin increases cytosolic Ca^<2+> concentration ([Ca^<2+>]i) in NPY neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, and leptin counteracted it, in which phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3)-dependent leptin signaling plays a crucial role.Transiently resistin-expressing mice using adenovirus show insulin resistance in islet β-cells via induction of SOCS-3 expression and reduction of Akt phosphorylation and impairs glucose-induced insulin secretion.Oleic acid (OA), interacts with GPR40 in rat islet β-cells to increase [Ca^<2+>]_i via PLC-and L-type Ca^<2+> channel, potentiating insulin release. OA also stimulates glucagon release by increasing [Ca^<2+>]_i via ER Ca^<2+> release in α-cells.Atorvastatin inhibits adipocyte maturation, SLC2A4 expression and insulin action in 3T3-L1 cells. In NSY mice, atorvastatin accelerates glucose intolerance due to insulin resistance and decreased SLC2A4 expression in WAT.Young-adult hyperphagia in GK rats is caused by hyperactivity of ARC NPY neurons, visceral fat accumulation and leptin resistance.
