This paper describes behavior of the shock absorption of Mars lander using aluminum foams. According to Mars atmospheric chemical model, oxygen concentration is constant regardless of altitude; however, observation by Herschel Space Observatory suggested the oxygen is abundant near Mars surface. For continuous observation on Mars, landing is planned using simple and small lander. Therefore, we have proposed expandable landing system using aluminum foams with energy absorption capability. In order to protect the payload, it is important to study landing behavior of the proposed system. In this study, mathematical model is formulated for the landing system and the landing behavior is numerically analyzed. Furthermore, a method to optimize the parameters of the proposed landing system using aluminum foams and numerical analyses shows the validity of the proposed optimization method. In addition to above numerical analyses, experimental validation evaluates the landing performance of the proposed landing system and proposed optimization method is validated.

    Abstract

This study presents the first passive measurements of the relative polarization ratio (RPR) and apparent bulk permittivity (ABP) of lunar regolith simulants at approximately 280 GHz. We prepare anorthositic and basaltic simulants with both optically flat surfaces and surfaces with roughness equivalent to typical lunar surface roughness represented by the Chang’E-4 landing site and conduct passive measurements to verify whether the RPR and ABP follow Fresnel’s law. For flat-surfaced samples, the results confirm that the relationship between RPR, incidence angle, and ABP is consistent with the Fresnel-derived relationship. The ABP values are 1.91 and 2.40 for the anorthositic and basaltic simulant, respectively. Importantly, even for rough-surfaced samples, which incorporate surface scattering effects, the results demonstrate that the relationship between RPR, incidence angle, and ABP remains consistent with the Fresnel-derived relationship. This is the first experimental confirmation that passive observation can estimate the ABP of lunar regolith using the Fresnel-derived relationship, even with lunar surface roughness. Furthermore, the permittivity differences originating from the inherent bulk density and chemical composition of the samples are preserved despite the surface roughness. These findings suggest that passive polarimetric remote sensing, such as that employed by the TSUKIMI mission, can effectively estimate the ABP of the lunar surface and provide insights into identifying regions with potential for resource exploration.

    Abstract

The Japanese Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle (GOSAT-GW) will be an Earth-observing satellite to conduct global observations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) simultaneously from a single platform. GOSAT-GW is the third satellite in the series of the currently operating Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) and GOSAT-2. It will carry two sensors, the Total Anthropogenic and Natural emissions mapping SpectrOmeter-3 (TANSO-3) and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 3 (AMSR3), with the latter dedicated to the observation of physical parameters related to the water cycle. TANSO-3 is a high-resolution grating spectrometer designed to measure reflected sunlight in the visible to short-wave infrared spectral ranges. It aims to retrieve the column-averaged dry-air mole fractions of CO2 and CH4 (denoted as XCO2 and XCH4, respectively), as well as the vertical column density of tropospheric NO2. The TANSO-3 sensor onboard GOSAT-GW will utilize the wavelength bands of 0.45, 0.76, and 1.61 µm for NO2, O2, and CO2 and CH4 retrievals, respectively. GOSAT-GW will fly in a sun-synchronous orbit with a local overpass time of approximately 13:30 and a 3-day ground-track repeat cycle. The TANSO-3 sensor has two observation modes in the push-broom operation: Wide Mode, which provides globally covered maps with a 10-km spatial resolution within 3 days, and Focus Mode, which provides snapshot maps over targeted areas with a high spatial resolution of 1–3 km. The objectives of the GOSAT-GW mission include (1) monitoring atmospheric global-mean concentrations of greenhouse gasses (GHGs), (2) verifying national anthropogenic GHG emissions inventories, and (3) detecting GHG emissions from large sources, such as megacities and power plants. A comprehensive validation exercise will be conducted to ensure that the sensor products’ quality meets the required precision to achieve the above objectives. With a projected operational lifetime of seven years, GOSAT-GW will provide vital space-based constraints on both anthropogenic and natural GHG emissions. These measurements will contribute significantly to climate change mitigation efforts, particularly by supporting the Global Stocktake (GST) mechanism, a key element of the Paris Agreement.

Abstract. Air quality on our planet has been changing in particular since the industrial revolution (1750s) because of anthropogenic emissions.
It is becoming increasingly important to realize air cleanliness, since clean air is as valuable a resource as clean water.
A global standard for quantifying the level of air cleanliness is swiftly required, and we defined a novel concept, namely the Clean aIr Index (CII).
The CII is a simple index defined by the normalization of the amount of a set of individual air pollutants.
A CII value of 1 indicates completely clean air (no air pollutants), and 0 indicates the presence of air pollutants that meet the numerical environmental criteria for the normalization.
In this time, the air pollutants used in the CII were taken from the Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) set by the World Health Organization (WHO), namely O3, particulate matters, NO2, and SO2.
We chose Japan as a study area to evaluate CII because of the following reasons: (i) accurate validation data, as the in situ observation sites of the Atmospheric Environmental Regional Observation System (AEROS) provide highly accurate values of air pollutant amounts, and (ii) fixed numerical criteria from the Japanese Environmental Quality Standards (JEQS) as directed by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan.
We quantified air cleanliness in terms of the CII for the all 1896 municipalities in Japan and used data from Seoul and Beijing to evaluate Japanese air cleanliness.
The amount of each air pollutant was calculated using a model that combined the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) models for 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2017.
The CII values calculated by the WRF–CMAQ model and the AEROS measurements showed good agreement.
The mean of the correlation coefficient for the CII values of 498 municipalities where the AEROS measurements operated was 0.66±0.05, which was higher than that of the Air Quality Index (AQI) of 0.57±0.06.
The CII values averaged for the study period were 0.67, 0.52, and 0.24 in Tokyo, Seoul, and Beijing, respectively; thus, the air in Tokyo was 1.5 and 2.3 times cleaner, i.e., lower amounts of air pollutants, than the air in Seoul and Beijing, respectively.
The average CII value for the all Japanese municipalities was 0.72 over the study period.
The extremely clean air, CII ≈0.90, occurred in the southern remote islands of Tokyo and to the west of the Pacific coast, i.e., Kochi, Mie, and Wakayama prefectures during summer, with the transport of clean air from the ocean.
We presented the top 100 clean air cities in Japan as one example of an application of CII in society.
We confirmed that the CII enabled the quantitative evaluation of air cleanliness.
The CII can be useful and valuable in various scenarios such as encouraging sightseeing and migration, investment and insurance business, and city planning.
The CII is a simple and fair index that can be applied to all nations.

The vibrational levels were evaluated by numerically solving the Schrödinger equations for the nuclear motions with the ab initio potential functions using one- to three-dimensional finite-element methods. On the basis of the calculated partition functions, the equilibrium constant of the complex, K(p), was studied. The K(p) values at atmospheric temperatures of 200-300 K were found to be 1-2 orders of magnitude less than previous estimates from the harmonic oscillator approximation.

Solar activities such as solar winds, solar flares, solar proton events have affected the environments and evolutions of planetary atmospheres. To further understand the habitable zone and atmospheric physical and chemical balance of solar and extra-solar planets, it is important to study the influence of activities of our Sun, which is a typical G-type star, on the atmospheres of Venus and Mars as well as of Earth. In order to study the relationship between solar activities in the atmospheric environments and climates of solar planets we started a long-term and regular monitoring observation project, SPART (solar planetary atmosphere research telescope), in 2011 by launching a single dish ground-based 10m-telescope. This is the utilization of the heritage of the Nobeyama Millimeter Array. The planetary middle atmosphere, which plays an important role in controlling the atmospheric environment of a planet, is sensitive to such activities because of its moderately low density. CO2is the main component in Mars and Venus's atmosphere. CO is formed from CO2basically by a photo-dissociation process owing to solar UV - X-ray radiation and incident high energy particles produced by solar flare events like coronal mass ejections. By the 115 GHz band monitoring heterodyne spectroscopies with SPART, we found that in Venus the CO mixing ratio at the altitude of around 80 km has decreased possibly for the past thirty years

We have developed the computational procedure and object-oriented software of especially the anharmonic molecular vibrations to precisely study the atmospheric physical chemistry. The global distribution of O_2-H_2O complex was simulated using the result of molecular computations. The distribution of the complex follows that of water vapour in the troposphere and seems inversely proportional to temperature in the lower stratosphere. Preliminary estimates at the surface show the amount of the complex is comparable to CO or N_2O, ranking water vapour complexes among the ten most abundant species in the boundary layer.

    3)Odin/SMR衛星HO2

This project was planned to pursue a further development of our on-going project on high-resolution spectroscopic investigation of molecular ions and free radicals which had been our main research objectives in the past several years. A major workhorse to promote our investigation is a submillimeter-wave spectrometer system. One such machine had been constructed on the basis of the past several years of research activities. The spectrometer covers the frequency range of 270-860 GHz with three back-ward wave oscillators. During the period of this research project, another similar submillimeter system has been completed. It utilizes a millimeter-wave frequency synthesizer as a local oscillator opposed to a millimeter-wave Gunn oscillator used in the old system. In addition, Fourier transform visible spectroscopy of the Swan system of C_2 and a visible system of C_3 has been carried out as a part of the collaboration with Professor Bernath at University of Waterloo by using a Bruker Fourier transform spectrometer.
Major achievements obtained during this project term are mainly in the following areas.
    (1) Spectroscopy of molecular ions. (2) Extended investigation of the Swan band system of C_2. (3) Precise pressure broadening measurements of molecules relevant to the Earth's atmospheric chemistry.

During the past several years, out effort was focused on submillimeter-wave spectroscopic studies of free radicals and molecular ions, in particular, of astrophysical and atmospheric chemical interests. Very high-sensitivity, high-precision, and high efficiency of data acquisition of a spectrometer system are the most crucial factors for successful search of free radicals and ions. To achieve this goal, we employed Russian-made backward-wave oscillators as radiation sources. The oscillation frequencies have been stabilized by using a double phase-lock loop. Below major results are summarized and full report already published on these results will attached as Appendices. The collaboration with the JEM/SMILES group has been measured. These projects are also pursued in collaboration with the JPL group.
Major achievements obtained during this project term are mainly in the following areas: (1)Spectroscopy of unstable species (2)Identification of reaction intermediates in discharge plasma used for plasma CVD processes. (3Precise pressure broadening measurements of molecules relevant to the Earth's atmospheric chemistry.

In this research project we planned to observe some chemical reactions in the super-fluid helium as a solvent and to build up a measurement system for this purpose. The experimental setup needed for this purpose is a femtosecond-picosecond laser system synchronized with a nanosecond laser system which excites just before the pump-probe experiment. We improved the experimental system which we built previously to realize this synchronization. Completed improvements are follows ; 1)The laser pulses from Regen amplifier system of which repetition rate is 1kHz are reduced to a single pulse of variable repetition by using of a shutter system driven by galvano motors.2) To enhance the probe wavelength in pump-probe experiment to near-IR region. We built a new multi-channel spectrograph system and realize a measurement in 1100-1700nm area. 3) To improve the accuracy of the pump-probe experiment, we built up a new system to detect a small deviation of probing light less than about 10^<-7>. T check and to improve the accuracy of these experimental systems, we performed coherent phonon (CP) spectroscopy and optical heterodyne detection of optical Kerr effect (OKE). In CP experiment, we succeeded to probe the relaxation process of lattice vibrations clearly and developed a new method to estimate amount of lattice defects quantitatively by using of ion-irradiation. In OKE experiment, we attempted to detect very small signal to discuss the relationship between the molecular orientational relaxation and inter-molecular interactions. These new experimental result was obtained because of the remarkable improvement of the experimental accuracy. In the next step, we planned to enter the liquid helium experiment.
