    準安定相の創出を目指す上で、相競合している1次転移系が有望な候補物質であることが、我々のグループの過去の研究から経験則として浮かび上がりつつあるものの、その微視的な意味は明らかになっていなかった。そこで本年度は、相競合している1次転移系であるマルチフェロイック物質(Fe0.95Zn0.05)2Mo3O8に着目し、走査型磁気力顕微鏡(MFM)を用いて一次相転移ダイナミクスの実空間観測を行った。低温環境下(30K以下)において、磁場を高磁場(7T)から下げると、試料表面において強磁性相の母体の中に円形状の反強磁性ドメインが時間と共に成長していく過程が観測された。このドメイン成長速度の温度・磁場依存性を精査し、相図上における熱力学一次相転移線からの磁場方向の距離ΔHの関数としてこれを解析したところ、ドメインの成長速度はexp(-const./ΔH)に比例し、いわゆるcreep運動を記述する式として知られているMerz’s lawによってよく記述されることが分かった。この温度・磁場に依存するドメイン速度の“等高線”を相図上に描くと、実験的に観測される1次相転移ヒステリシス線の振る舞いをよく再現した。また、ヒステリシス線は磁場掃引速度の関数として振る舞うことが見出されたが、その系統性は、MFM測定から得られたドメイン速度の温度・磁場依存性に適当なドメイン成長モデルを適用することで半定量的に説明可能であることが分かった。以上のことから、急冷による準安定相の創出を目指すにあたり、相競合領域においてドメイン成長速度が低温域において遅延化することが重要な役割を果たしていることが分かった。
    また、上記の実験とは独立に、フェーズフィールドシミュレーションによって、試料サイズ・冷却速度を制御パラメータに採った、最低温における相転移度合いを表す動的な相図を作成した。

    We have succeeded in reversible and nonvolatile conversion of zero-resistance and finite-resistance states in the transition metal dichalcogenide IrTe2 by alternatingly applying electrical pulses of different intensities and pulse widths. This is the first time in more than 100 years of superconductivity research that such a control of superconductivity by applying electric pulses has been achieved. We also succeeded in visualizing the spatial coexistence of superconducting and normal-conducting phases on a few um scale using a scanning Raman microscopy. The observed domain structure has domain walls along specific crystal axes, indicating the strong influence of a strain field on the domain formation.

    When rapidly cooled, liquids are frozen into a glass, in which atoms are randomly arranged. Recently, similar phenomena have been discovered for electrons in solids: when slowly cooled, electrons are arranged periodically in the atomic crystalline lattice, whereas, when rapidly cooled, electrons are frozen randomly and electronic glass appears. In this research project, we have found that the electronic crystalline and glassy states can be switched into the other by applying an electronic or optical pulse, in a non-volatile and reversible manner. Furthermore, this guiding principle is turned out to be useful even for magnets, thus establishing a designing principle for novel non-volatile phase change memories.

    We aimed to find novel and interdisciplinary properties of materials across the research fields of dielectics, conductivity, magnetism and semiconductors, which lead to open new fields in material science, by exploiting the structural flexibility and controllability of molecular materials. As a result, we obtained the following achievements across these fields; the discovery of novel electric and magnetic excitations in a charge-transfer type of ferroelectric, the creation of a research field of electronic glasses, the discovery of anomalous correlation effects in massless Dirac electrons, and the discovery of the coexistence of a spin-liquid and a metal. These achievements are expected to be seeds for future interdisciplinary researches in material science.

    I studied topological textures such as domain walls and skyrmion (spin-swirling object) in magneto ferroelectrics, called multiferroics, where magnetic order and ferroelectricity coexists, to operate them at a fast rate. I focused on a multiferroic, Cu2OSeO3, which host the skyrmion and succeeded in detecting a high-speed magnetoelectric effect. I measured microwave transmittance in detail and observed a phenomenon in which microwave absorption depends on the incident direction of microwaves. This effect is known as a directional dichroism and a first experimental observation in a microwave regime.

    1.モット絶縁体であるK-(BEDT TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Cl (以下K-Cl)をヘリウムガス圧を用いて加圧し、モット転移近傍の金属相に制御した後、その圧力下においてNMR測定を行なった。この実験によって、モット転移近傍における超伝導相においては、スピン-格子緩和率1/T1の温度依存性にコヒーレンスピークが見られないこと、1/T1〜T3に従う可能性が高いことが明らかになった。これらの結果は、超伝導ギャップにノードがあることを強く示唆している。また、超伝導転移温度よりもわずかに高温の金属相においても、1/T1やナイトシフトが温度依存しており、通常のフェルミ液体には期待されない振る舞いが観測された。これがモット転移近傍の金属相にのみ見られる振る舞いだとしたら興味深い。今後、様々な圧力下の金属相においてNMR測定を行い、1/T1やナイトシフトがモット転移からの(圧力温度相図上における)距離の関数としてどのような振る舞いを見せるのか、その系統性を明らかにし、High-Tcなどにおけるフィリング制御型モット転移との類似性・相違点を議論することが望まれる。
    2.DM相互作用とZeeman相互作用を含むHeisenberg模型を平均場近似の範囲内で数値シミュレーションを行い、磁場によって誘起されたlocal momentは温度に依らずnon-colinearな状態になること、磁場下では温度掃引によって厳密な意味での反強磁性転移が起きないこと、磁場によって反強磁性磁化率X(q)の発達が抑えられることが見出された。これらの結果は常圧下のK-Cl(モット絶縁体)のNMR測定において、低温においてもスペクトルの分裂が見られないこと、1/T1が磁場と共に抑制されるという、通常見られない振る舞いを定性的に説明している。この実験結果及び平均場近似による数値シミュレーションの結果を1つの論文にまとめ、近日投稿予定である。
