    <p>Sharing perceptual data (e.g., camera and LiDAR data) with other vehicles enhances the traffic safety of autonomous vehicles because it helps vehicles locate other vehicles and pedestrians in their blind spots. Such safety applications require high throughput and short delay, which cannot be achieved by conventional microwave vehicular communication systems. Therefore, millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications are considered to be a key technology for sharing perceptual data because of their wide bandwidth. One of the challenges of data sharing in mmWave communications is broadcasting because narrow-beam directional antennas are used to obtain high gain. Because many vehicles should share their perceptual data to others within a short time frame in order to enlarge the areas that can be perceived based on shared perceptual data, an efficient scheduling for concurrent transmission that improves spatial reuse is required for perceptual data sharing. This paper proposes a data sharing algorithm that employs a graph-based concurrent transmission scheduling. The proposed algorithm realizes concurrent transmission to improve spatial reuse by designing a rule that is utilized to determine if the two pairs of transmitters and receivers interfere with each other by considering the radio propagation characteristics of narrow-beam antennas. A prioritization method that considers the geographical information in perceptual data is also designed to enlarge perceivable areas in situations where data sharing time is limited and not all data can be shared. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm doubles the area of the cooperatively perceivable region compared with a conventional algorithm that does not consider mmWave communications because the proposed algorithm achieves high-throughput transmission by improving spatial reuse. The prioritization also enlarges the perceivable region by a maximum of 20%.</p>

    <p>This paper presents the performance evaluation for secondary networks with multiple primary users (PU) with a stochastic geometry approach. On the assumption that the secondary users (SU) follow a Poisson hole process, we derive a PU's outage probability (OP) and SU's area spectral efficiency (ASE), where the PU's OP and SU's ASE are defined as the probability that the aggregate interference at a PU from transmitting SUs exceeds a threshold and the product of the transmitting SU's density and the SU's average throughput, respectively. The theoretical results agree with the simulation results, and these results show that both the PU's OP and SU's ASE decrease along with the primary exclusive region (PER) size, i.e., we quantitatively evaluate the trade-off between the PU's OP and SU's ASE.</p>

    In mmWave communications, a frame loss rate increases and thus throughput is decreased sharply when pedestrians block line-of-sight paths. Such serious human blockage does not occur in microwave communications. In general, reactive communication control is conducted based on measured communication quality. In contrast to this, to solve the problem, we have proposed an RGB and depth (RGB-D) camera based millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication environment prediction and a proactive communication control system using the prediction results. By using the RGB-D camera, we can predict a change of mmWave environment such as human blockage easily since the cameras can detect obstacles and their mobility. In this paper, the framework and the prototype implementations of the RGB-D camera based human blockage prediction and proactive communication control schemes are introduced.

    This paper proposes a framework of an RGB and depth (RGB-D) camera based millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication environment prediction and a proactive communication control system using the prediction results. In mmWave communications, a frame loss rate increases and throughput is decreased sharply when pedestrians block line-of-sight paths. Such serious human blockage does not occur in microwave communications. By using the RGB-D camera, we can predict a change of mmWave environment such as human blockage easily since the cameras can detect obstacles and their mobility. In this paper, we propose the framework and introduce implementations of the RGB-D camera based human blockage prediction and proactive communication control schemes. Our experimental results show superiority of of the proposed system to the conventional one.

    To facilitate management of a wireless local area network (WLAN) system, the WLAN system with radio-over-fiber (RoF) is one of the promising systems. In the system, access points (APs) are replaced by radio-frequency (RF) units. Each unit consists of an antenna, amplifiers, analog-to-digital (AD)/digital-to-analog (DA) converters, and an interface circuit. The residual physical (PHY) and media-access-control (MAC) functions of the existing APs are moved to the central office's facility which is connected to the RF unit with the optical fibers. This system causes large propagation delay between stations and an AP, thus frame collisions occurs frequently in a conventional MAC protocol. In particular, when a legacy WLAN coexists with the RoF based WLAN, the throughput performance of an AP in the RoF based WLAN decreases largely. To solve this problem, we propose a method to increase the transmission opportunity where the RoF AP can transmit frames without collisions. The simulation results show that the proposed method increases TCP throughput and MAC layer fairness between uplink and downlink transmissions in the RoF based WLAN.

    To operate IEEE 802.11g based wireless LANs (WLANs) and IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless personal area networks (WPANs) in the 2.4 GHz band, we have proposed the coexistence scheme called hybrid station aided coexistence (HYSAC). When WPANs are applied to a health monitoring system with vital sensors, many WPANs may be used at the same location and may join and leave the WLAN cell following movements of persons. However, the WLAN and WPAN throughput performances of the conventional scheme deteriorate in the above situation. To solve this problem, this paper proposes two schemes. The first new scheme is a synchronization scheme for multiple WPANs to enable the coexistence for a WLAN and many WPANs. The second one is a reliable coexistence scheme which exclusively assigns wireless resources to WPANs when WPANs join or leave the WLAN cell. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the throughput performances of a WLAN and WPANs in the coexistence system.

    In millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications, a frame loss rate increases and throughput is decreased sharply when a pedestrian blocks a line-of-sight path. Such serious human blockage does not occur in microwave communications. To solve this problem, reactive communication controls based on communication quality such as received signal strength indicator and frame loss rate have been studied, but it is difficult to avoid a period in which the human blockage degrades throughput until after the operation of reactive control has been completed. This paper proposes a proactive routing control scheme for mmWave communications based on human blockage prediction using RGB-D cameras. We build a testbed using IEEE 802.11ad based WLAN devices, and implement the proposed scheme on the testbed. Our experimental results show that the proactive traffic control schemes reduce the duration in which human blockage degrades throughput performance.

    This paper presents implementation of a reactive traffic control scheme for millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications. In millimeter-wave communications, a frame loss rate increases and throughput is decreased tremendously when a pedestrian blocks a line-of-sight path. Such serious human blockage does not occur in microwave communications. In this paper, we build a testbed using IEEE802.11ad based WLAN devices, and implement a prototype on the testbed. Our experimental results show that the reactive traffic control schemes decreases the duration in which human blockage degrades throughput performance, and the total amount of received data increases by 21%.

    This paper proposes a novel terahertz wireless communications system using microwave communications. In the proposed system, access point is equipped with a microwave transceiver and terahertz transmitters and station is equipped with a microwave transceiver and a terahertz receiver in order to reduce the implementation cost and energy consumption without decreasing gains from terahertz communications. In the proposed system, a downlink flow is transmitted by using terahertz communications and a uplink flow and a part of control messages for terahertz communications are transmitted by using microwave communications. In this paper, we discuss the system model and the media access control mechanism.

    Mobile wireless local area networks (WLANs) provided by mobile wireless router and tethering function of smartphone are extensively used in public places and large number of WLAN are in close proximity. The throughput performance of WLAN deteriorates as the number of neighboring WLANs increases due to an increase of frame collision probability caused by the contention of nodes. We have studied the random arbitration interframe space number (AIFSN) scheme to solve this problem. This paper investigates the transport performance of the random AIFSN scheme in densely deployed WLANs considering delay between server and AP and analyzes the interaction between TCP flow control mechanism and the random AIFSN scheme based on the computer simulation.

    The number of WLAN devices has risen sharply in recent times and has led to high-density wireless networks with frequent interference. To solve this problem, a number of methods involving transmission power and carrier sense threshold control have been investigated. We have proposed a scheme of using attenuators to realize inversely proportional setting of transmission power and carrier sense threshold. This inversely proportional setting solves the unfairness problem caused by variable transmission power or variable carrier sense threshold. This paper describes a testbed for using attenuators, and the experiment on the testbed demonstrates that the proposed method results in significant improvement in the aggregated throughput of two transmitter-receiver pairs.

    CSMA/CA is a well-known medium access mechanism which is employed in the IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless local area networks (WLANs). In CSMA/CA, the WLAN throughput is degraded as a number of stations (STAs) increases due to frame collisions. To solve this problem, we have proposed a visual recognition-based medium access control (VRMAC) mechanism which uses LEDs and cameras. In VRMAC systems, STAs transmit an access request frame by blinking LEDs and an access point (AP) transmits a control frame to allow the STAs to transmit a data frame. Our previous studies only focus on single-cell WLAN. This paper expands VRMAC to be applicable for the case where the VRMAC employed WLANs densely exist. We propose a collision avoidance mechanism using AIFS for VRMAC and evaluate the throughput performance by using a network simulator.

    Inserting attenuators between transceivers and antennas is proposed to improve spacial channel reuse in carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA)-based wireless LANs. Using attenuators enables the access points (APs) or stations to equivalently decrease the powers of transmission signals and received signals. The decrease of the received signals is equivalent to the increase of the carrier sense threshold at the transceiver. This inversely proportional setting of transmission power and carrier sense threshold provides a novel solution for the unfairness problem caused by the difference in transmission power. The aggregated spectral efficiency of two transmitter-receiver pairs is formulated and a sufficient condition for achieving higher aggregated spectral efficiency compared to the spectral efficiency without using attenuators is derived. In addition, the enhancement of aggregated spectral efficiency is numerically evaluated.

    Building an environmentally friendly, safe, and secure society requires the early realization of a variety of supervisory control systems: a smart grid, a natural disaster prevention system, a health and medical care system, and a social welfare system. These supervisory control systems impose a wide variety of requirements and performance measures: the number of terminals, data rate, electric supply, etc. Thus a single unified wireless access network satisfying these requirements is desirable and a concept of "Machine to Machine network consisting of Enormous Number of TERminals without PRImary CElls" (ENTERPRICE M2M network) has been proposed. This paper reports a novel virtual grouping technique for enormous number of terminals, and reveals issues when microwave power and data transmissions coexist.

    It is desired that microwave power transmission (MPT) and data transmission are conducted in the same radio channel for high spectral efficiency. However, it is impossible to conduct MPT and data transmission in the same radio chanel simultaneously because MPT has influence on data reception. When both energy harvesting and MPT supply power to a sensor, the duration over which MPT is required to be performed can be decreased, and thus harmful interference to data reception can be reduced. In this paper, we designed an algorithm for conducting power supply to a sensor with energy harvesting and MPT, and to perform MPT except when data transmission is conducted. Moreover, sleep time control enables a sensor to control the residual energy stored in the sensor with photovoltaic generation and MPT. In addition, we conducted the experiment with using another photovoltaic generation to simulate MPT, and confirmed the expected performance of the system.

    To realize battery-less operation of wireless sensors, we consider the supply of energy to wireless sensors using microwave power transmission (MPT). If MPT and wireless data transmissions are carried out in co-channel operation to achieve high spectral efficiency, transmissions of microwave power and data frames should not be performed simultaneously to avoid harmful interference from MPT to wireless data transmissions. In this paper, we proposed the scheduling scheme in which microwave power was transmitted except for the timings of data transmissions. On the basis of our proposed scheme, we implemented a system, and then we confirmed the expected performance of the system by conducting experiments.

    IEEE 802.11 based WLANs are extensively used. Many of WLAN stations operate mainly at 2.4 GHz band and share the radio band with other stations. The transmission rates of the stations depend on the distance between the AP of the WLAN and stations. If the WLAN includes stations which are far from the AP, the stations operate at low transmission rates and decrease the system throughput of the WLAN. This paper proposes a system using a dual-band relay in order to improve system throughput of 2.4 GHz WLAN. In the system, the dual-band stations which transmit frames with using 2.4 GHz and 60 GHz bands relay the transmission of stations which operate at low transmission rates in order to shorten the transmission distance between the AP and stations so that the stations can use higher transmission rates than that before relaying. In addition, we discuss an asymmetric WLAN system which enables relay stations to transmit frames longer at 60 GHz band.

    The number of APs for hotspots and mobile routers including tethering stations is increasing. Hence, adjacent channel interference in 2.4GHz WLAN is one of critical issues for its availability in outdoor environment. In this report, we measured the distance between two AP where throughput starts to fall in outdoor environment. Moreover, we analyze the cause of degradation of throughput by adjacent channel leakage with the data derived by capturing WLAN frames. In addition, we show the validity of using the same channel rather than different channels as neighbor AP's channel with data of outdoor measuring experiment. Using the same channel as neighbor AP's channel increases throughput and fairness and decreases retransmission of data frames.

Hence, adjacent channel interference in 2.4GHz WLAN is concerned because of its availability in outdoor environment. In this paper, the distance between 2 APs where throughput starts to fall is measured in outdoor environment. Measured value is compared with estimated value that is calculated by assuming IEEE 802.11a/g spectrum mask as transmitting waveform and receiving filter of AP. In addition, the cause of degradation in throughput due to adjacent channel leakage is analyzed with the sequence data of sended frames derived by capturing WLAN frames.

    To operate IEEE 802.11g based wireless LANs (WLANs) and IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless personal area networks (WPANs) in the 2.4 GHz band or the same location, we had proposed the coexistence scheme called distributed active channel reservation of coexistence (DACROS). In the DACROS scheme, a WPAN system is exclusively assigned traffic resources. However, when there are multiple WPANs in a WLAN cell, WLAN throughput performances are deteriorated because wireless channel is individually assigned to multiple WPANs. This paper proposes the synchronization method between multiple WPANs to solve this problem. Computer simulations and theoretical analysis show that proposed method improve the throughput performances of WLAN in the WLAN and WPANs coexistence system.

    IEEE 802.11 WLANs distributed coordination function (DCF) employs a carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. To avoid frame collisions, CSMA/CA uses a back off algorithm in which stations (STAs) wait a randomly determined period of time. The waiting time can be considered overhead. Moreover, even when the back off algorithm is used, collisions still occur. In this paper, we propose a novel media access control (MAC) mechanism for WLAN systems, called visual recognition based medium access control (VRMAC) mechanism. In VRMAC, to facilitate collision-less media access with low overhead, stations (STAs) equipped with LEDs send media-access request messages by blinking their LEDs and an access point (AP) equipped with a camera receives the messages via the camera. Our simulation results show that the mechanism improves WLAN throughput over that of the conventional MAC mechanism in WLANs.

    Context awareness is believed to be a key enabler for the new network service paradigm brought by cloud computing platforms and smartphone OSs. This work focuses on the core problem of how to detect changes of context for network services. Detection of such changes can trigger timely system reconfigurations. In this paper, we propose a trigger detection mechanism based on a mixed representation model that encodes geographical and social relationships among people and other social objects by using a graph. When a significant change in the graph occurs, our mechanism detects a trigger. It accounts for the fact that a geographical relationship among objects socially connected with each other significantly changes. The main benefits of our method are that 1) it does not require building reference models in advance, and 2) it can deal with different kinds of social objects uniformly once the graph is defined. We evaluate the performance of our method by a computer simulation.

    Minimizing network traffic is an important issue in content services delivering large volume content files to lower the cost charged for bandwidth and the network infrastructure. Traffic localization is an effective way of reducing network traffic. Peer-assisted content delivery network (CDN) localizes network traffic when a client can obtain the requested content files from a near-by altruistic client instead of the source server. To localize traffic effectively, content files likely to be requested by many clients should be cached locally. This paper presents a novel traffic engineering scheme for peer-assisted CDN models. The key idea is to combine content files while keeping the price equal to the single-content price to induce altruistic clients to request the desired files to be cached. In this paper, we come up with a solution for determining contents combinations that localize download traffic in a network and discuss its upper-bound performance.

    Traffic is localized when a user can obtain her or his requested content from another user instead of the source server. The concept of the peer-assisted content distribution can reduce the overall traffic using this mechanism. To localize traffic effectively, content files likely requested by a lot of users should be cached locally. This paper proposes incentive content-download control, which controls downloaded content files by users considering content popularity and cached location. We particularly discuss a price-based control mechanism. Computer simulations validate our control mechanism for traffic localization.

    In IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs), which are extensively used as access networks, transmission opportunities (TXOPs) are equally assigned to every station (STA) connected to an access point (AP) based on carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) when the traffic load is heavy. Therefore, stations (STAs) cannot be satisfied with their quality-of-service (QoS) demands. We propose TXOP Exchange where STAs can opportunistically share the available bandwidth to satisfy their QoS demands. Using a Nash bargaining framework, we can bring these STAs the proportional fairness. We evaluate the effectiveness of our mechanism through analysis and simulations.

    無線LANの制御情報であるビームフォーミングフィードバック(BFF)は、固有モード伝送のためにチャネル状態情報(CSI)から計算されるものであり、環境の変化に対してインフォマティブである。このため、CSIに基づくセンシングや、BFFに基づくセンシングが検討されてきたが、特に後者は教師データを必要とする機械学習ベースのものが多く、教師データを観測できない場合には有用ではないと考えられてきた。一方で、研究代表者らのこれまでの研究により、傍受したBFFにより機械学習なしに人の呼吸数推定などが可能である一方、プライバシ漏洩リスクをはらんでいることが明らかになっている。
    2024年度は、BFFのどの要素がセンシング特徴量として重要なのかという観点で、以下の2つの研究成果をあげた。
    BFFには、サブキャリア毎のCSI行列を特異値分解した右特異行列Vと、全サブキャリアで平均化した特異値である平均ストリームSNR(AS-SNR)という多数の要素が含まれている。右特異行列Vが有する物理的情報を明らかにするため、2×2 MIMO CSIに対応するBFFフレームに格納されている右特異行列Vが、CSIの要素から、数値計算ではなく記号計算で求められることを明らかとした。
    次に、BFFに含まれるどの要素がセンシング特徴量として重要かを検討した。具体的にはAS-SNRを、無線LANセンシングの評価指標として有望なセンシングSNR(SSNR)を用いて分析した。その結果、最終ストリームのAS-SNRが、すべてのストリームの中で最も低いSNRを持つ一方で、SSNRの観点からは優れた特徴量であることが明らかとなり、呼吸数推定においてもこの仮説を支持する実験結果が得られた。

    2023年度において、我々はWi-Fiの通信信号を活用した画像推定技術「RF-Inpainting」の高度化に焦点を当てました。この技術は、無線通信信号に内包される電波伝搬環境の情報、すなわち、空間内のどこに壁や天井や人のような反射や回折させる物体が存在するか、という物理的トポロジに関する情報をもとに監視カメラ等の画像を復元・修復する技術です。2023年度はWi-Fi CSI(Channel State Information)と呼ばれる、より詳細な無線チャネル情報を用いた手法を提案し、さらに高精度なイメージングが可能であることを実験的に示しました。この研究の成果はIEEEの学術誌に投稿中です。

    また、無線環境センシングにおけるCSIのコンセプトシフトに関しても実験的に検証を行いました。コンセプトシフトは時間経過とともにデータの分布が変化することであり、Wi-Fiセンシングの精度に影響を与えることが実験的に確認されました。さらに、異なるCSI測定機器や方法によってコンセプトシフトの発生強度が異なることを実証しました。この研究成果もIEEE論文誌に投稿準備中です。

    加えて、Firmware-AgnosticなWi-Fiセンシング技術の発展に寄与する特徴量選択手法を開発しました。Wi-Fi CSI測定には通常特殊なファームウェアが必要ですが、我々の提案する手法では、どのような測定器を使用しても測定が可能となり、普及の障壁を低減します。この技術はIEEE Communication Letterに採択され、その優れたアプローチが認められています。

    リアルタイム情報共有は,近未来における多様な情報通信アプリケーションを支える最重要機能の一つであると目されている.リアルタイム情報共有の性能評価には遅延時間を始めとする従来の性能指標では不十分であることが知られており,その解決のために近年導入されたのが Age of Information (AoI) の概念である. AoI は情報鮮度を定量化する指標であり,その応用性への高い期待から,最近では活発な研究が国際的に行われ始めている.しかし,AoI の概念を実際のアプリケーションへ応用する上で,「AoI の目標値をいかに客観的かつ合理的に定めるか」という本質的な課題に対し,十分な知見が未だ得られていない.本研究課題は,俯瞰的な理論研究と実際的な応用研究を並行して実施し,それらの成果を統合することにより,多様なシステムへ適用可能な形でこの問題の解決に取り組むことを目的とする.
    本年度は,応用研究の題材として,水中画像伝送システム,車載スモールセルネットワーク,クラウドゲーミングシステム,ならびに人工知能 (AI) エッジ推論システムを取り上げ,これらのシステムの数理モデル化と解析を実施した.特に,水中画像伝送システムについては通信における物理層レベルからのモデル化に加え,深層学習に基づいて情報源・通信路結合符号化と変調を一括化する新たな手法を具体的に検討した.
    また,理論研究については,離散集合ならびに連続値集合上に値を取る二種類の連続時間確率過程について,AoI とモニタリング精度を結びつける定式化ならびに諸量の特徴づけを行った.

    あBy integrating stochastic geometry, game theory, and machine learning, we have created an autonomous configuration technology for physical layout and wireless networks. Specifically, the introduction of stochastic geometry analysis enables performance analysis of radio resource management. In addition, we have achieved highly efficient radio resource management according to the radio environment based on the fusion of stochastic geometry analysis and reinforcement learning, the introduction of deep reinforcement learning, and wireless sensing.

    The objective of this research is to predict wireless communication quality from visual data (e.g., images) from cameras and radar. In wireless communications, especially those using ultra-high frequency bands such as millimeter wave communications, visible light communications, and terahertz communications, pedestrians, cars, buildings, and roadside trees become obstructions and reflections, which greatly affect the wireless communication quality. In this research, we established a technique to accurately predict wireless communication quality 0.5 to 1 second ahead based on spatio-temporal information contained in the vision data from cameras, radar, and LiDAR.

    The purpose of this research is to solve the line-of-sight (LoS) blockage problem in millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications by utilizing spatiotemporal information for realizing a highly reliable wireless communication network. In particular, by applying machine learning, the quality of mmWave communications (e.g., the received power and throughput in several hundred milliseconds ahead) is predicted accurately and directly from RGB and depth images that contain 3D spatial information. In addition, we have established proactive control mechanisms that improve the communication quality of mmWave communications.

    This work focuses on wireless local area networks (WLANs) and proposes novel mechanisms for solving wireless bandwidth shortage problem. We propose wireless media integrations which leverage microwave communications, millimeter-wave communications, and communications using optical camera. The proposed mechanisms increased the WLAN system throughput more than 50% and increased the throughput of a WLAN user fivefold when users download large volume files via the WLAN.

    To develop a single unified wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) networks satisfying a wide variety of requirements of supervisory control systems, i.e., the number of terminals, data rate, and electric supply, a feasibility study of coexistence of wireless power and wireless LAN data transmissions and a proposal of the control scheme of the simultaneous number of transmissions were conducted. In addition, as applied researches, an analytical framework of smart grid and a proactive communication control method for millimeter wave communications were proposed.
