We analyzed the problems faced by labor migrants from Latin America, focusing on gender and ethnicity. As the cases of labor migration from Latin American countries to developed countries, we have taken immigration to the United States and Spain Under the international division of reproductive labor, the problem of domestic workers in developed countries has been highlighted. Similarly, in labor migration within Latin America, economic disparities are forcing intraregional migration. In the case of female immigrants, who work in the tertiary industries such as domestic workers and service industries they are placed in low wages and poor working conditions. The motives for women's single immigrants are characterized not only by traditional family unification but also by violence due to political conditions and escape from DV.

筆者は2006年の6月から7月にかけてメキシコ大統領選挙の選挙実施状況について調査を、そして10月から11月にかけてはアメリカ合衆国に住むメキシコ出身の移民社会に関するフィールドワークを行い、その成果の一部を学術雑誌やメキシコの地元メディアに発表した。6月には米墨の選挙監視NGO、Global ExchangeならびにAlianza Civicaのグループと合同で、選挙不正、特に政府与党による補助金などを通じた買票行為の可能性や有権者への圧力の有無について調査を行った。この際にはメキシコシティーに加え、クライアンテリズムが色濃く残るといわれ、また先住民人口が多く慣習法による村長の選出など独自の政治制度が見られる南部オアハカ州を訪れ、州政府を中心とした権威主義的な政治慣行の様子とそれに対抗する野党や市民団体の様子を取材した。また、7月の選挙当日にはこれまで度々調査を行ってきたユカタン州で選挙監視員として活動し、その成果の一部は現地の報道雑誌に寄稿した。特別研究員として研究を進めてきたこの3年間で自分の研究が最も変化した点は、移民の影響を地域社会、そして地方政治の研究に取り入れたことである。この観点から、アメリカ合衆国に住むメキシコ系移民と、彼らと母国メキシコの社会との関わりについて調査を進めてきたが、8月にはその最初の具体的な成果である書評論文「アメリカ合衆国におけるメキシコ系移民社会」を発表し、また10月から11月にかけては、アメリカ・カリフォルニア州のロサンゼルスとサンフランシスコ近郊で、移民によって組織された大規模な集会を取材し、また移民団体の代表に会うなどの調査をおこなった。12月には、住民の約4割が移民しているといわれるなど近年大きな変化をとげつつあるユカタン州ペト市において聞き取り調査を行い、また同州出身の移民向けに同州のニュースや移民を巡る動向などの情報をのせたウェブサイトの運営者に話を聞くなどして、移民と故郷の社会の紐帯、そして軋轢について考察を深めた。
