    The transverse out-of-plane response of the RC moment frame on the arena floor damaged a school gymnasium that was expected to function as a natural disaster shelter. It was composed of heavy RC substructure and a light steel roof, which partially collapsed, resulting in the facility's permanent destruction in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. This study describes scaled shaking table tests that simulate out-of-plane response-induced damage to the RC moment frame of the school gymnasium during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake and verifies the damage mechanism proposed by the previous numerical simulation and the efficiency of a response control by the friction damper support. Furthermore, the study validates two methods for evaluating the response of the RC moment frame and the overall buckling strength of the roof truss member with semi-rigid joints.

    <jats:p>This paper presents a design application of the proposed generalized response spectrum analysis (GRSA)-based seismic optimization method to a large metal spatial structure (constructed in Japan) where a rigid diaphragm assumption is not available and displacement responses are disproportionally distributed in a story. It also discusses the optimal mixed placement and capacity distribution of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) and conventional braces (CBs) to minimize both the story drift response and the number of BRBs (i.e., the introduction cost of expensive energy-dissipation devices used as dampers). GRSA is a quick and efficient analysis method for estimating the reduced seismic responses of structural models with a large degree of freedom, and GRSA-based computational optimization enables a more efficient seismic design process than trial-and-error approaches with time-consuming nonlinear response history analysis. In this study, the efficiency is verified through a comparison with the Japanese standard BRB design method. According to the results, the optimal design solution by the proposed method has approximately 20% less steel tonnage of BRBs than that obtained from the standard method, whereas the seismic performance is equal to or better than the others. Moreover, although engineers should still consider the possibility of damage concentration, the brace configuration of the substructure where BRBs and CBs are arranged in adjacent stories is the most effective for reducing both the number of BRBs and the story drift response.</jats:p>

    <jats:p> Curved gridshells are excited not only in the horizontal direction but also experience large anti-symmetric vertical accelerations when subjected to horizontal earthquake ground motions. In addition to the coupled response, gridshells exhibit closely spaced modes and substructure-roof interaction. Nevertheless, previous studies have proposed elastic horizontal and vertical equivalent static seismic forces considering these complex dynamic response characteristics. These are determined from the input horizontal acceleration at the substructure’s roof level, an assumed acceleration distribution, nodal roof masses and amplification factors derived from the dynamic characteristics of the dome and substructure. To extend this methodology to nonlinear substructures with displacement-dependent damping devices, this paper investigates the applicability of ductility reduction factors (or R<jats:sub>μ</jats:sub> factors) to estimate the inelastic response spectra and an alternative equivalent linearisation approach to compute the peak horizontal acceleration of multistorey substructures with buckling-restrained braces. This is achieved by modelling the curved roof as a rigid mass for the substructure model, and using its idealised base shear-roof displacement relationship obtained from modal pushover analyses. The peak horizontal acceleration of the substructure is then used to obtain the equivalent static loads of the curved roof using amplification factors, and the accuracies are verified against the results from nonlinear response history analyses. It was confirmed that the R<jats:sub>μ</jats:sub> [Formula: see text]factors combined with the roof amplification factors provide a simple way to estimate the peak roof response with sufficient accuracy for preliminary design of domes with multistorey substructures having low post-yield stiffness. </jats:p>

    It is concerned that a long-duration earthquake in the future generates fatigue fractures in the steel structural components. The authors have investigated the member fracture of axial members including cold-formed circular hollow sections. According to previous study of steel braced frames, it's suggested that more ductile structural components should be applied to a steel structure achieving higher seismic performance. On the other hand, it is needed to develop an aseismic design method of a steel braced frame taking member fracture into account of frequent middle or large earthquakes. In this paper, the interaction of cumulative deformation capacity between a circular hollow section brace with different diameter thickness ratio and a steel frame is investigated for extending basic knowledge of ultimate seismic resistance of steel braced frame, using finite element analysis, experiments including shaking table testing and evaluation of ductility factor.

    &nbsp;1. Introduction<br>&nbsp;The authors have proposed a method to assess the local fracture mechanism of moment frame connections and brace members under cyclic loading directly from global member results, termed the Direct Local Strain Evaluation Method. However, up to now, the accuracy of the proposed method has only been validated under static loading. This research validates the proposed method under dynamic loading with collapse tests.<br>&nbsp;2. Test Setup<br>&nbsp;A frame composed of a single bay moment frame and a concentric circular hollow section (CHS) brace was assembled for the dynamic collapse test, with LVDT strain gauges installed to monitor fracture of the brace and the beam connections. Initially quasistatic loading tests were carried out to confirm the fundamental mechanical properties of the braced frame specimens. The testing rig included an inertial mass system to simulate PΔ effects large deformation.<br>&nbsp;3. Quasistatic and Dyanamic Loading Tests on Braced Frames<br>&nbsp;The diameter-thickness ratios of CHS brace of specimens ranged from 42.3 (slender) to 11.8 (compact). In the quasistatic tests, the slender specimens failed by local buckling at the midpoint and ends of the brace member, while local buckling was not observed for the compact specimens. However, when connection fracture governed, the cumulative deformation capacity of the brace was not necessarily determined by just the diameter-to-thickness ratio. In the dynamic loading test, the slender specimens, residual story drift angle was 1/282 rad at initiation of brace fracture, 1/21 rad following fracture of the brace and 1/6 rad once the beam connection fractured.<br>&nbsp;4. Numerical Investigation on Simulation of Quasistatic Loading Tests<br>&nbsp;A series of FEM analyses were conducted in order to simulate of the quasistatic loading tests, where the member modelled with shell elements. The Direct Local Strain Evaluation Method is largely effective estimating the local strain of the brace member and at the beam connection.<br>&nbsp;5. Validity of Direct Local Strain Evaluation Method under Dynamic Loading<br>&nbsp;Numerical FEM models were also created to simulate of the dynamic loading test using stick models. The estimated initiation of local buckling was found to be more accurate using truss elements for the brace than by using bending elements. Generally, the post-brace-fracture displacements of a dual brace-moment frame system are much greater than the displacement contribution of local buckling. While local buckling can have a significant effect on the pre-brace fracture displacement, the precise instant that local buckling is initiated has a relatively small effect on the total displacement response of a frame with brace fracture. The proposed method is effectively predicted the braced frame response including the brace fracture under dynamic loading.<br>&nbsp;6. Conclusions<br>&nbsp;In summary, the following results were obtained:<br>&nbsp;1) Local buckling occurred at the midpoint and ends of the brace for slender CHS specimens, while local buckling of compact CHS specimens was not observed in the quasistatic loading tests.<br>&nbsp;2) In the dynamic loading test of the slender CHS specimens, the residual story drift angle was 1/282 rad at initiation of brace fracture, 1/21 rad following fracture of the brace and 1/6 rad once the beam connection fractured.<br>&nbsp;3) The Direct Local Strain Evaluation Method is effective in estimating the local strain of the brace member and at the beam connection.<br>&nbsp;4) The proposed method effectively predicts the braced frame response including the brace fracture under dynamic loading.

    A large numbers of steel roof bearings in RC gymnasia are damaged at past earthquakes at the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, mainly due to the out-of-plane response of cantilevered RC walls supporting the roof frame. In the conventional seismic retrofit method, bearings reinforcement with steel corner plates and replacement of all the roof braces are required, therefore uneconomical. In this paper, a detailed energy-dissipation bearing with friction dampers for steel roof reducing the response of cantilevered RC walls is fabricated and dynamic loading tests are carried out. Using the experimental results, their response reduction effect is confirmed by analytical models.

    令和3年度においては,研究目的と研究実施計画で示していた外殻構造に適用する長尺のブレース部材の最適な組み合わせ検討を行った。具体的には応募者が独自開発した一般化応答スペクトル解析法とスーパーコンピュータを用いて,長尺の耐震ブレースと座屈拘束ブレースおよびオイルダンパーの配置と容量の組合せを網羅的に探索し,最適化された外殻構造の地震応答低減効果と,長尺の各ブレースが達成する必要がある構造性能(部材全体の塑性率,芯材の弾性部と塑性部の長さ比・断面積比など)の統計情報を整備した。この検討では,可能な限り超高層建物の建築計画の実情を反映するため,対象建物は東京駅前で進行中の実プロジェクトを模擬した超超高層建物を模擬した立体モデルだけでなく,典型的な架構規模を有する典型的な超超高層建物の2種類を検討し,一般性のある知見を得るように務めた。また,対象とする地震応答制御構造は外殻構造だけでなく国外で主流のアウトリガー構造等も網羅的に含むこととし,その性能比較に必要な知見の収集に務めた。検討の結果,アウトリガー構造が1次振動モードに特化して地震応答の制御効果が高い一方で,外殻構造は高次モード振動にも有効であることが分かった。また,日本都市部の不動産開発で好まれる建物規模では,アウトリガー構造は曲げ剛性の確保が難しく一般的に知られている性能より劣化していしまうため,外殻構造の方が望ましいことが判明した。昨年度までの具体的な成果は,日本建築学会構造系論文集に3編(1編掲載済み,2編投稿中),海外論文誌に2編掲載済みである。令和3年度の研究計画で予定していた範囲を大幅に超える成果を得ることができ,また長尺の座屈拘束ブレースに必要な長さ性能等もおおよその目処がついたため,今後は元の計画に修正を加えて最終年度に向けて研究を進める予定である。

    本年度はH30年の研究実施計画通り,学位論文のとりまとめと審査論文の投稿を中心に研究を遂行した。研究成果は,米国地震工学会の論文集に1編,国際シェル空間構造学会の論文集に1編,日本建築学会の論文集に1編ずつ採用・掲載された。また,国際シェル空間構造学会においては,投稿論文が論文賞(Hangai賞)として表彰され,7月に米国ボストンで開催された年次大会で招待講演を行った。
