    Abstract

    The authors present the design, fabrication and testing of a W‐band monopulse antenna. This antenna consists of three main building blocks: an array with 48 × 48 slots, a tapered corporate‐feed network and a comparator. The comparator has four input ports to generate sum and difference patterns in orthogonal cardinal planes for monopulse operation. A novel octuple excitation is adopted for the corporate network to achieve a side lobe level lower than −20 dB for the sum patterns and simultaneously reduce drastically the manufacturing complexity. Diffusion bonding technology is used for fabrication. Twenty‐four etched copper sheets with a thickness of 0.2 mm are stacked to realise the prototype. The total size of the antenna is , with λ0 being the wavelength at the centre frequency (94 GHz). The antenna presents an isolation better than 12 dB among the input ports in the 84–100 GHz band. The realised measured gain is 40.7 dBi at 94 GHz. The measured 3‐dB gain bandwidth is 17.4%. The difference patterns at 94.0 GHz present null depths of −24.0, −18.0, −17.5, and −17.4 dB, in the E‐, H‐, 45°‐, and 135°‐planes, respectively.

    Abstract

    A comprehensive theoretical analysis of two‐plane waveguide coupler with arbitrary coupling ratios in the H‐plane and E‐plane directions is provided and a design of the two‐plane coupler with coupling ratio in the H‐plane direction and coupling ratio in the E‐plane direction is reported. The analysis of the two‐plane waveguide coupler is fully refined and accomplished by the authors. To realise an arbitrary and different coupling ratio in the two directions, it is crucial to specifically constrain the transition phase of the quarter model of the two‐plane coupler for different boundaries as necessitated by mode polarity. A prototype of the proposed two‐plane coupler is manufactured and measured to verify the concept. Its performance is observed from 27.0 to 29.5 GHz (8.85% fractional bandwidth). The measurement results are basically in accord with the simulation results, demonstrating the reliability of the theoretical analysis. Finally, samples of designed conventional H‐plane and E‐plane couplers are provided, cascading of which can realise the same functionality as the proposed two‐plane coupler. Compared with one‐plane couplers, the two‐plane coupler reported realises overall miniaturisation rates in terms of length and volume around 58.4% and 50.1%, respectively. According to the demonstration and verification of the two‐plane couplers having arbitrary coupling ratios, the employment of the two‐plane couplers to replace the conventional one‐plane couplers to realise miniaturisation of 2‐D beam switching matrices will be promoted in future applications.

    Abstract

    RF reflectometry is a promising technique for spin qubit readout, suitable for large-scale integrated qubit systems by combination with multiplexing techniques and gate-based readout. However, one of the challenges in such systems would be that the accuracy of RF readout of individual qubits can be degraded by crosstalk among dense RF readout lines. In this study, we propose a mixed-mode RF reflectometry to reduce the effect of the crosstalk and verify its effectiveness by electromagnetic field simulations. The results of the simulations show the possibility of suppressing the influence of crosstalk by using mixed modes.

    <p>Shaped beam reflector antennas are widely used because they can achieve a shaped beam even with a single primary feed. Because coverage shapes depend on service areas, optimum primary radiators and reflector shapes are determined by the service areas. In this paper, we propose a simultaneous optimal design method of the primary radiator and reflector for the shaped beam antenna. Particle swarm optimization and the conjugate gradient method are adopted to optimize the primary radiator and reflector. The design method is applied to Japan coverage to verify its effectiveness.</p>

    This paper presents beam-type wireless power transmission by two radial line slot array antennas (RLSA). Using electrically large antennas and their near-field region enables high-efficiency wireless power transmission. A uniformly excited RLSA is designed at 5.8-GHz-band, one of the industry science and medical (ISM) band. The two designed RLSAs are placed vis-A-vis and transmission are analyzed. At the distance of 28 cm, 67% transmission is confirmed whereas the rest is spill-over, material loss, and reflection loss.

    This paper presents the measured results of a 64x64-way one-body two-dimensional beam-switching Butler matrix using hollow waveguide structure at 19.55 GHz. The one-body two-dimensional switching matrix is realized by introducing the waveguide short-slot 2-plane couplers as hybrid and cross junctions. The 64 beams can cover 39.5% hemisphere by 0.65-wavelength aperture spacing in simulation. The measured beam coverage is almost the same to the simulated one.

    We discuss the reflection suppression in the short-slot 2- plane hybrid coupler by step structure. This structure suppresses the reflection around the design frequency of 22GHz. The reflections to the four input-side ports, S-11 and S-41 are suppressed to less than -20dB over 8.1% bandwidth, and S-21 and S-31 are less than -20dB over 12% bandwidth. However, the transmissions to the four output-side ports are deviated from -6dB at 22GHz. They are in a range from -6.9dB to -5.2dB.

    This paper presents the design of a 2x2-element subarray for a 16x16-element perpendicular-corporate feed four-layer parallel-plate pair-slot array antenna. To suppress sidelobes in the 45 degrees plane in a conventional array antenna with the perpendicular-corporate feed, we introduce pair-slots in an additional-slot layer. They contribute to reducing higher modes in wider slots, offering the wideband design of the VSWR. In simulation results, the proposed structure can lower sidelobes around +/- 550 degrees regions in the 45 degrees plane from -21 to -38 dB and provide 13.0 % bandwidth for VSWR <= 1.5.

    The corporate-feed hollow-waveguide slot array antenna is a high-efficiency and wide-band antenna in the millimeter-wave band. However, in the conventional corporate-feed structure, the number of the radiating elements is limited to 2(n) X 2(m)-element to be a power of two by using a cascade of T-junctions. In this paper, the authors propose an 112x64-element (not 2(n) X 2(m)-element) array which combines a 56x32-division circuit and 2x2 circularly-polarized radiating elements. VSWR of the overall antenna is less than 1.5 in the 60GHz-band (57-66GHz). The output error at the ends of the feeding circuit is less than 0.7dB in amplitude and 5.5deg. in phase in the 60GHz-band.

    This paper presents plate-laminated waveguide slot array antennas for wideband and high-gain operations. Fig. 1 shows the structure. A corporate feed circuit is placed on the bottom layer. A coupling slot at each end in the corporate feed circuit excites 2x2 exciting slots in an x-shaped cavity. Each of the exciting slots excites a radiating slot pair in a radiating cavity. All the radiating slot pairs are basically excited in equal amplitude and phase at any frequency. The radiating slot pair consists of two narrow slots to suppress the cross polarization. The antenna will be installed by rotating by 45 degrees as shown in Fig. 1 to suppress sidelobes in the horizontal (E) and vertical (H) planes in fixed wireless access system.

    The 45-degree linearly-polarized plate-laminated waveguide slot array antenna has achieved 9.6% gain bandwidth more than 32.0 dBi in the 60-GHz band. In this paper, the radiating part is designed by GA for wider bandwidth. We propose a new configuration, cavity-backed slot-pair as a new radiation element for cross polarization suppression. The design realized 25.7% bandwidth for VSWR less than 1.5 by lower Q of two eigenmodes and appropriate arrangement of resonance frequencies. 16×16-element array was composed of the designed radiation part and the conventional feeding part. The result showed 90.0% antenna efficiency and 23.6% gain bandwidth more than 32.0 dBi and 70% antenna efficiency.

    The plate-laminated waveguide slot array antenna has achieved 83.6% antenna efficiency, 33.0-dBi gain and 11% 1dB-down gain bandwidth in the 60-GHz band. In this paper, we propose fast analysis method of the radiating part by the method of moments for wideband design of the antenna and show its effectiveness. Next, the radiating part is designed using the analysis method and the bandwidth for VSWR less than 1.5 is improved from 9.2% to 18.0% by lower Q, appropriate arrangement of resonance frequencies and triple resonance.

    In order to achieve a wide bandwidth characteristic of high gain, high efficiency and low side lobe level, a plate-laminated-waveguide corporate-feed 45-degree linearly-polarized aperture array antenna is proposed. A 4-element sub-array is designed for a 256-element array. The 256-element array is fabricated by diffusion bonding of etched thin copper plates in the 60 GHz-band. About 70 % antenna efficiency with more than 32 dBi is achieved over 5 GHz.

    The authors demonstrate the feasibility of structures to realize circular polarization and dual polarization use in waveguide slot array antennas with a full-corporate feed circuit on the bottom layer. The circularly polarized elements reduce the difference in their excitation by placing a narrow exciting slot between a radiating aperture and a cavity. The bandwidth for axial ratio less than 3dB is 5% by controlling the length and the width of the radiating aperture, including the resonant length. The dual polarization use is realized by combining a conventional feed waveguide with longitudinal slots and the other feed waveguide consisting of an E-bend and transverse slots. High isolation more than 50dB is achieved because of cut-off operation against the feed waveguide for the orthogonal polarization, by crossing these two slots perpendicularly at their center.

    We propose a 45-degree linearly-polarized configuration, placing inclined slots on a double-layer full-corporate-feed hollow-waveguide slot array antenna. In this paper, we confirm that cross polarization is suppressed by the radiation slot width by the analysis of a 4-element sub-array. We analyze a 256-element array composed of the designed 4-element sub-arrays and the full-corporate-feed circuit. The reflection is less than -14dB over 4.2% bandwidth where the cross polarization is less than -30dB. The directivity is 32.9dBi with 82% aperture efficiency at 61.5GHz. The first side lobe level in E-plane is low, 26dB; however, -16dB grating lobes are generated in the 55-degree direction. We confirm that the grating lobe generation results from amplitude and phase difference between neighbor slots and can suppress up to -37dB by thickening the thickness of the exciting slots. However, the bandwidth becomes narrow (3.1%) and trade-off relationship between the grating lobe level and the bandwidth is found.

    本研究では折り紙技術による小型収納・大型展開可能な膜をアンテナにし,膜の機械的な欠点を電気的に解決することで,超高利得アンテナを実現する.展開後の膜には平面度が低い・折り目にアンテナが配置できないという二つの課題がある.能動素子で反射位相を制御しアンテナ自ら変形を電気的に補償する手法を確立する.折り目によるアンテナ配置の乱れを整える設計論を確立する.本研究課題は機械特性を電気的に補正する従来と逆のアプローチを取るものである.
    本年度は能動素子による変形補償と小型収納・大型展開構造を検討した.能動素子による変形補償ではバラクタダイオードを搭載した反射素子を設計し,バラクタダイオードへの印可電圧で面外方向の変形を補償できることを確認した.小型収納・大型展開構造では2つの膜面を一定間隔を保って収納・展開できる機構を検討した.これらの成果より国際学会2件,国内学会4件発表した.

    Antenna design methodology and structure simplification were studied to realize high efficiency and high gain millimeter-wave band waveguide slot array antenna with frequency selective characteristics of radiation power. A unique design methodology which does not requires a numerical optimization is studied. Reflection characteristics agrees but gain does not agree well because conductivity may degrade greatly. Conductivity measurement methodology is established and measurement results showed that the narrow wall of the waveguide has much lower conductivity than wide wall one. For simple structure with high robustness on fabrication tolerance is studied and metal blocks are replaced by dielectric substrates. Addition of wide slot layer or double slit layers enables comparable characteristics with all metal antennas.

    本研究の目的はミリ波帯高利得高効率広帯域な導波管スロットアレーアンテナの実現である. 近年, 無線通信に求められる通信速度は向上しており, 帯域を広く使用できるミリ波帯が注目されている. 高速な通信速度を実現するには, アンテナには広帯域な特性が求められる, パラボラアンテナは広帯域な特性が実現できるが, 3次元筐体であるため無線機全体として大きな筐体となってしまう, スロットアレーアンテナは平面型であり, 広帯域化を実現することでコンパクトな筐体で高速な無線通信が可能となる.
    まず, 設計する挿入壁付きキャビティ付きスロットアレーアンテナの高速な解析手法である固有モード展開解析を検討した. 導波管断面形状が長方形に壁を挿入した構造で解析的に求められない. そこで, 2次元有限要素法により計算した数値固有モードで展開し, モーメント法と組み合わせた. その結果, 汎用有限要素法シミュレータHFSSと同等の解析結果を得た, また, 31か所の周波数特性の解析時間はHFSSの20分程度に対し, モーメント法では9~15秒と大幅に短縮された.
    次に45度直線偏波スロットアレーアンテナを71~86GHz帯で広帯域設計した. 交さ偏波抑圧のために幅が細いスロットのペア構造を採用し, 厚み以外の全13パラメータを一括して遺伝的アルゴリズムで設計した. VSWR〈1.5以下の帯域は従来の7.2%から25.7%まで広帯域化された. 放射素子の固有モード解析の結果, 動作帯域内に3つの固有モードがあり, 2つの固有モードの低Q化および共振周波数の適切な配置により広帯域化されたことが分かった.
    最後に16×16素子アレーを拡散接合により試作し, 設計周波数で利得32.9dBi, アンテナ効率86.6%を実現した. また利得31.5dBiかつアンテナ効率70%以上の帯域は18.4%に広帯域化された.
