    In the present paper, we come up with application of machine learning using data for flow visualization as a method for predicting unsteady flow patterns in oscillatory baffled reactors (OBRs). Application of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is investigated for dynamic analysis of spatio-temporal data acquired by particle image velocimetry (PIV) to determine inputs and outputs for neural network model. It has demonstrated that three sets of modes and time-varying mode coefficients extracted by the POD could be useful for dynamic analysis and prediction of time-variant flow patterns in OBR. Also it is shown that decomposition of the time-series data for the mode coefficients by Fourier series expansion was effective for deriving reduced order model.

    Dry reforming of methane (DRM) for syngas production has gained much attention because of its significant potential in greenhouse gas reduction and economic efficiency over steam reforming. The practical application of DRM has been hindered by problems of coking in cold spots, coking-induced blockage and pressure loss in the catalyst packed beds. The previous works developed a packed bed type microreactor with a blow-through channel, namely a catalytic wall-plate microreactor (CWPMR) to solve those problems. However, it did not outperform the conventional tubular packed bed reactor. Objective of this study is to process-intensify DRM by structuring CWPMR. A void space and micro-baffle were formed in the packed layer and in the blow-through channel, respectively. This study proposed the micro-structure to enhance convective heat and mass transfer, and resultant reaction efficiency. Particle-resolved CFD simulations verified the favorable effects of the micro- structure on flow distribution in CWPMR. Reaction experiments showed that the micro-structured CWPMR significantly outperformed the conventional reactor and reduced carbon deposition with the identical catalyst loading.

    In this study, we investigate methods for designing three systems, which include mixing and separation of catalytic phase, feed of reaction solution and monitoring of state of catalytic phase in the development of the three-phase-separable flow reactor systems. Then, the usefulness and problems in systemization of fluid operation by micromixier, operation of alternate current field and operation of swirl flow are clarified from the viewpoint of implementation of compact and environmentally friendly processes. Furthermore, applicability of pressure information for monitoring the state of catalytic phase is also examined.

    This research project aimed at construction of a methodology of process intensification in recognizing the importance of dynamical network of function elements in a process. This project consisted of two research sections : design and modeling using the concept of dynamical network, and analysis for dynamical network in individual processes. This research project revealed that performance of processes could improve tremendously by expressing function network models and intensifying hub elements in the network.

    交流電界操作を用いた三相系触媒反応プロセスについては、「中間相形成操作」と「反応操作」の二つにオペレーションを分類することができる。平成20年度は安息香酸フェニル生成プロセス実験を通して、各操作における動画像データ利用の有効性を検討し、以下のような知見が得られた。
    (1) 中間相形成操作
    前年度に、中間相の形成挙動は電極間のポリエチレングリコール(PEG)溶液の「相変化」と相変化した流体の移動による「相分離」が混在した挙動であると実験的に推察された。そこで、電熱による局所的相変化を考慮した中間相形成挙動のハイブリッドシミュレーションを行った結果、相変化に伴う局所的密度変化と自然対流の影響を定量的に検討することができた。さらに、操作量の変化と中間相形成事象の遷移との間の相関関係のモデル化において、構造化モデリング手法“Interpretive Structural Modeling"の適用性が認められた。
    (2) 反応操作
    攪絆によって形成された中間相を光学的および電気化学的に解析した結果、中間相は触媒であるPEGが濃縮した連続相と有機溶媒(トルエン)の分散相から構成されていることが明らかになった。そこで、反応物(塩化ベンゾイル)を含む有機溶媒の注入方法が安息香酸フェニルへの選択率に及ぼす影響を実験的に検討した。その結果、塩化ベンゾイル濃度によって変化する反応液の注入挙動の動画像情報が、転化率と選択率の動的解析に有用な知見を与えることが示された。
    以上の結果より、物理モデルに基づく数値シミュレーションを併用することで、動画像データが中間相形成操作の効率化に有効な情報を与えることが明らかになった。さらに、時間的に遷移する中間相の巨視的パターン(厚さ、色など)に応じて、水相-有機相の界面付近から反応液注入箇所付近へと動画像フレームを変動させる手法の有用性が示された。

    微小空間に多数のセンサーを配置することが難しいと想定されるマイクロリアクタープロセスの運転操作を効率よく行うための、ユーザー指向ソフトセンシングシステムの構築を目標とし、フリーフロー電気泳動法を用いたマイクロ分離プロセスを対象とした、ハイブリッドモデルシミュレーションシステムの構築ならびに同システムのソフトセンシングシステムとしての有用性の検討を行うことで、以下の成果をあげることができた。
    1.汎用流体解析ソフトウェアを用いた二次元マイクロフリーフロー電気泳動(mFFE)装置内部の輸送現象シミュレーションにおいて、Navier-Stokes方程式モデルとエネルギー方程式モデルに、電気浸透流速度の推算モデルと電極付近発熱量の推算モデルの両マクロ的モデルを融合させることで、高電圧負荷操作を考慮に入れたシミュレーションシステムを構築した。さらに、既往の研究で実験結果として報告されている装置表面上の不均一な温度分布とシミュレーション結果との間に、定性的に良好な一致が認められたことで、同システムの有効性を見出すことができた。
    2.CBB水溶液等を用いたmFFE装置内部の輸送現象可視化実験を行い、mFFE装置の材質、その内部構造、電極や配管といったユーティリティシステムの構造などと、種々の操作変数との間の相関関係を構築することで、前述のシミュレーションシステムに関して、新たなミクロ的モデル(例:局所的電流密度の推算モデル)と現存のモデル群との柔軟な融合の必要性が見出された。さらに、同システムのセンシング目的変更に対応しうるための機能の付加に関しては、マイクロ化学プロセス集積化のためのマルチエージェント指向シミュレーション手法の開発を試みることで、種々のモデルの階層化機能だけでなくモデル選択の柔軟な意思決定機能の重要性が認められた。

    This study aims to develop'a precise control-operation management system of flexible micro reactor processes for accurate temperature-reaction control and safe management of waste and toxic substances. This system was developed through investigation of intelligent network systems combined with network-type modeling systems and with modeled experiments for practical use, as the following results.
    1.A multi-agents information processing framework was constructed on computer networks, where hierarchical dynamic simulation systems, such as reaction simulation, CFD simulation, unit operational simulation and process simulation, had a network structure based on each parallel function as an agent.
    2.A hybrid simulation technique was discussed in the above information processing framework to simulate the whole behavior of an integrated chemical process on the supposition that micro reactor processes had the module-type structure composed of many unit devices with various scales and parallel connections. The basic concept of the hybrid simulation technique was formed through the tests of polystyrene polymerization simulations and modeled experiments with mixing tank reaction.
    3.An intelligent simulation technology for designing of control-operation management systems of micro reactor processes was developed by using the above hybrid simulation technique in the multi-agents information processing framework. This intelligent technique was powerful and effective for the simultaneous design of assemblage and operation of micro reactor processes.

    This study aims to develop a new hybrid practical system "GANN" that is a new method using a three-layered neural network optimized by a genetic algorithm. This system was applied to operation and scheduling in batch processes with complicated constraints, and to modeling and control in nonlinear reaction-separation processes, and the following results were obtained.
    1. In a polymerization process and a fractionation process using liquid chromatography, nonlinear process data could be precisely modeled using an artificial neural network that was a basis of GANN.Through the above investigation, it was made clear that the number of units in a hidden layer was an important factor for flexibility of networks, and an adequate genetic coding method of networks was designed.
    2. A dynamic GANN scheduling system was developed for an integrated operational system that flexibly controlled fluctuating productions in real time. This system could appropriately cope with sudden changes of production plans, troubles of equipments and maintenances.
    3. The GANN system was applied to designing the structure of a control system for a mixing-tank reactor, and it was found that the system was a useful optimization method for design of process controllers.
    The above results made clear that this GANN system was a powerful and flexible tool for modeling, control and operation in nonlinear processes.
