    The EEDF diagnosis by optical emission spectroscopic measurement is required. In this study, we analyzed the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) dependence of the excited-state distribution. This study is focused on the 2.45GHz low-pressure microwave discharge argon plasma. We measured the EEDF by Langmuir probe based on Druyvesteyn´s method. We evaluated the equivalent electron temperature Te and electron density Ne. And, we analyzed the excited-state distribution based on collisional-radiative model. We evaluated under the EEDFs: the measured EEDF, Maxwellian and Druyvesteynian which had equivalent Te and Ne to the probe measurement values, respectively. We found that the levels between the level 3d´[3/2]o2+ [5/2]o2,3 the level 16´ (Racah symbol) were higher dependency then the other levels.

    Electric propulsion is known as a high-efficiency method for deep space explorers. However, most of methods have electrodes contacting directly with plasma, and its lifetime is limited by electrodes' erosion. We have been developing electrodeless electric propulsion systems in order to overcome this problem, and carried out optical measurements using a high-speed camera and monochromators to estimate high-density helicon plasma performance in our systems. Electron and neutral particle density profiles have been measured by a high-speed camera, and velocity of singly-charged Ar Ion by a high-resolution monochromator. Preliminary experiment of a spectroscopic method using an intensity ratio based on a collisional radiative model with CCD monochromator has been performed additionally. Since plasma parameters obtained by these methods have a good agreement with results by an electrostatic probe, non-invasive optical measurements presented here can demonstrate useful tools for estimating the plasma parameter of an electric propulsion system.

    Two-fluid and three-fluid models are used for safety analysis and design cords of light water reactors (LWRs). Interfacial area concentration, interfacial heat transfer and interfacial shear stress have never been understood enough for these numerical codes. Since it is very difficult to measure these phenomena, there is a shortage of the correct experimental data. In the present work, a digital image processing method, consisted of a digital video camera, a stroboscope, a personal computer and data processing software, was developed and applied to subcooled boiling flows. As a result, bubble condensation characteristics under a subcooled boiling condition is clarified.

    The electron temperature Te and density Ne of atmospheric-pressure non-equilibrium dielectric barrier discharge argon (Ar) plasma are measured with optical emission spectroscopy. Continuum emission due to bremsstrahlung is applied to the analysis of the electron temperature and density with the spectrometric system in the visible wavelength range calibrated absolutely. The assumption of the Maxwellian electron energy distribution function (EEDF) results in Te ≃ 0.29 eV and Ne ≃ 1.1 × 1016 cm−3, whereas the Druyvesteyn EEDF leads to the result Te ≃ 0.79 eV and Ne ≃ 1.4 × 1014 cm−3. To confirm the validity of these values, several line intensities of the excited states of the Ar atom are observed experimentally and compared with the theoretical population densities calculated by the Ar collisional–radiative (CR) model that includes atomic collisional processes. It is confirmed that the order of the observed excited-state number densities agrees well with that calculated numerically by the CR model with the Druyvesteyn EEDF, while the Maxwellian EEDF gives poor results.

    A new method to determine the arbitrary electron energy distribution function (EEDF) from the optical emission spectroscopic measurement in atmospheric-pressure plasma is introduced. The optical emission spectroscopy (OES) continuum emission spectrum, dominated by electron-neutral bremsstrahlung radiation, is analyzed to inspect the usefulness of the conventional OES measurement range for EEDF determination. The EEDF is reconstructed from the OES continuum radiation spectrum by applying machine learning to solve the bremsstrahlung emissivity equation inversely. Through iterative statistical analysis, the presented genetic algorithm can locate the EEDF reliably. Preliminary experimental EEDF results of an argon dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) OES measurement are given. The electron energy range and resolution of the determined EEDF are discussed. The results showed potential for accurate determination of the arbitrary EEDF in atmospheric-pressure plasma using simple OES equipment.

    We review fundamentals of optical emission spectroscopy (OES) of plasmas of atmospheric pressure and, in particular, its applications to processing plasmas. Collisional radiative model is described to understand the excitation kinetics and population distributions of excited states in order to examine the electron temperature and density. It is shown that corona equilibrium is often adopted as justifiable assumption of excitation kinetics for general processing plasmas. Line intensity measurement methods are studied for atmospheric-pressure Ar plasma and low-pressure N2 plasma. Population densities of excited states of argon atoms are theoretically examined for ionizing argon plasma in a state of non-equilibrium under atmospheric pressure from the viewpoint of elementary processes with collisional radiative model. The dependence of excited state populations on the electron and gas temperatures is discussed.

    We studied a method to estimate electron temperature of atmospheric pressure argon plasma, based upon the population distribution of the excited populations of argon atoms in the plasma. Numerical calculations show that the excitation temperature determined by population of 4p and 5p levels is found to be a function of the electron temperature as well as the gas temperature, while its dependence on the electron density is rather weak when the electron density is less than 1012 cm-3, where the collision frequency of neutral ground atoms with the excited states is larger than that with electrons. We found that the two temperatures Te and Tg are both essential, and the ratio of excited state population is almost independent of the electron density. If we determine the approximate gas temperature by other methods like OES measurement of rotation temperature, we can fix the gas temperature in the CR model. Consequently, the excitation temperature is uniquely correlated with the electron temperature. We demonstrate experimental OES measurement of argon plasma at atmospheric pressure excited by 2.45 GHz microwave with its power 150 W and find the electron temperature about (0.9±0.1) eV.

    We discuss the effects of electron energy distribution function (EEDF) on the number densities of excited states of Ar I in a microwave discharge argon plasma in the pressure range of 0.1 to 10 Torr. We experimentally generate the microwave discharge argon plasma and find the electron temperature and density to be 5-12 eV and (1-4)×10^<11> cm^<-3>, respectively. Single probe analysis also shows that its EEDF is approximately Druyvesteynian, but with a large uncertainty. We measure the number densities of excited states of Ar I by spectroscopic examination. For numerical analysis, we obtain the number densities of, the excited states by using a collisional radiative model, substituting experimentally observed electron temperature and density. The number densities of excited states calculated by the collisional radiative model agree well with the experimental ones when we adopt the Druyvesteynian distribution as EEDF, whilst the Maxwellian distribution gives poor results.

    振動励起状態の数密度分布に関する理論検討を昨年度に引き続き実施した。重い同位体である^<14>N^<15>N分子の振動励起状態の数密度が、^<14>N_2に比べて高くなる。しかしながら、注意すべきは、解離した窒素原子の振る舞いである。解離した窒素原子は、振動-並進緩和の効果が大きく、せっかく生成された窒素分子の振動励起状態をかなりな速度係数で脱励起させることが判明し、しかも1量子遷移ではなく、多量子遷移がおおきくなるため、同位体効果を期待するには、窒素分子の解離はよく際せねばならないと言う結論に達した。
    こうした計算結果をふまえて、2年度目の実験的研究として、解離度を抑えた窒素プラズマの生成の研究をおこなった。そのための要諦は、放電圧力を高めにして、電子温度の低下を図ることであることが判明した。研究に着手する前の見通しとしては、高い放電圧力では、同位体間の緩和が進むために、同位体効果を期待できないのではないかという恐れもあったが、10Torr程度の放電圧力でも十分同位体効果を期待できる上に、放電下流域では電子温度の低下が速やかに達成され、そのため解離度を抑制できることも判明した。従って、窒素同位体のプラズマ法による分離のためには、数Torr〜10Torr程度の放電圧力で、放電下流域を利用することが最適、との結論に達した。この際、電子温度としては約0.5eV,電子密度としては約5x10^<11>cm^<-3>,ガス温度としては0.08eV程度の比較的低温のプラズマであることが判明した。

    In this project, we have studied the following two subjects, which is required to make the plasma decontamination process, which we have suggested, practicable. (1)To demonstrate the plasma decontamination process by using practical atmospheric pressure plasma. (2)To develop the process safety assessment method and to assess its process safety.
    In the former subject, we generated the atmospheric-pressure non-equilibrium plasma by using rare gases and CF_4/O_2 mixture and we carried out some experiments of removal of cobalt oxide film stained on the stainless steel plate surface. The atmospheric -pressure non-equilibrium plasma generated here had two operation modes, atmospheric pressure glow discharge and dielectric burner discharge, depending on its discharge conditions. The decontamination characteristics under each mode and various conditions were made clear. In the case of Mel CF_4/O_2 gas mixture plasma the fluorination reaction proceeds sufficiently at 180-200 degree C and almost of cobalt oxide was converted into its fluoride within 5 minutes. The fluoride could be flush out easily by water and it could indicate the possibility of practical use of this process.
    In the latter subject, we made modeling of processes of fine particle generation and its growth, adding to the evaporation of metal, which takes place in the plasma process. And also we developed the numerical calculation code to simulate a series of process which appears in the plasma process. By using this code we calculated the characteristics of fine particles generated in the plasma process. By adding to its code a collecting process by various air filter, furthermore, we completed a series of the process for the estimation process estimate the amount of fine particles which were released into the environment without collecting. Consequently, we could develop a method to obtain information fo safety assessment of the plasma decontamination technique.

    本研究の目的は、核融合炉の炉壁周辺に存在する低温水素プラズマと第1壁表面との相互作用についての基礎研究であり、まあ、本研究室の磁場膨張プラズマジェット装置をもしいての分光測定による励起状態反射粒子光の検証である。本実験においては、実験前の段階で数値解析から拡散方程式による金属試料内の水素密度分布、水素原子拡散の定常到達時間を考慮してからおこなった。
    実験では、低温高密度水素プラズマを高Z材に属する4種類の金属試料Mo, Nb, W, Taに照射し、そのときの試料への照射時間に対する強度、密度、温度の依存性を調べ、プラズマパラメータとして各試料照射における電子密度・温度を求めた。さらには、各試料に対し水素プラズマを照射した場合と試料の存在しない場合の分光計測結果の比較を行い、金属からの反射粒子中の励起状態の密度分布等について考察を行った。
    試料温度を変化させたときのHα、Hβ、Hγの上準位に対応する(すなわち主量子数3, 4, 5)励起準位密度は、モリブデンにおいては上昇し、ニオブでは顕著な変化が見られず、タングステン・タンタルでは若干の減少傾向にあった。また、試料がないときのプラズマの揺らぎは、十分小さいことも確認した。
    Hαに対するHβ、およびHγにおける強度比に関しても、同族同士での性質の類似点は少なく、各金属試料ごとにそれぞれ異なる結果となった。一方、水素プラズマを各試料に照射した際、温度が定常に到達する時間も同様の結果となった。
    標的金属に直接電流を流すことにより加熱し、同様に実験を試みたが、特に際だって変化はなかった。また、熱力学的諸量との相関を見いだす試みもおこなったが、系統的なものは見いだせなかった。いずれにしても照射水素の基底状態のフラックスを正確に把握する方法を確立しないと研究の系統的な評価が困難であることも判明した。

    第1に、各種同位体分離法の理論的フィージビリティスタディを実施した。併せて、放射性核種に対して適用した場合、予想される技術的困難性について、予測を実施した。その結果、各種の統計分離法は、多数存在する同位体の内、中間質量数同位体の抽出には不適であることが判明した。
    第2段階として、各分離法を放射性元素に適用した場合の工学的・技術論的フィージビリティスタディを行った。個々の同位体分離法について、各個別の技術項目、すなわち放射性物質の漏洩の危険性、飛散の可能性の有無、所定の容器・領域からの再回収の可能性、通常操業時及び事故事象時の環境影響、経済性、工業化するとした場合の妥当な規模等を検討・評価した。各同位体分離法の1つ1つに着目して、その長所・短所を洗い出すという形での規格調査を実施した。これに並行して、技術論担当の分担者は、先述の各個別技術項目に着目して、その技術項目を達成するためにもっとも優れた同位体分離法は何かと言う観点から、各同位体分離法の比較検討・評価を実施した。その結果、レーザー原子法、レーザー分子法、IRCプラズマ同位体分離法の3法が、放射能の同位体分離法として適した方法であることが判明した。特に、放射性物質を気化して体積を増大することは一般には好ましくないので、希ガスの固体マトリクス中に分離対象を配置する固相レーザー分子法がもっとも技術的にフィージブルな方法であることが判明した。

  • Study on Ultra-Long Life Ores Lolled with Transuranium Fuels

    As some of the trans-uranium elements such as ^<237>Np and ^<241>Am, which are treated as the nuclear wastes, have large neutron capture cross section, they have large potential to reduce the initial excess reactivity and also to establish the high burn-up reactor core if they are loaded in the core. The feasibility study on the long-life cores loaded with trans-uranium elements has been performed. It was found that the reactor core loaded with ^<237>Np allow the burn-up value up to 150-200 GWd/t in the light water and heavy water reactors. Based on the analysis of the neutron spectrum effects on the long-life core characteristics and safety characteristics of the reactor cores with six coolants such as light water, heavy water, He gas CO_2 gas, Na and steam, it was concluded that He gas cooled reactor with graphite moderator loaded with ^<237>Np gives excellent their characteristics. It was found that the reactor core loaded with ^<241>Am gives the high burn-up of about 100 GWd/t. It was also confirmed that those fuels loaded tans-uranium elements such as ^<237>Np and ^<241>Am produce ^<238>Pu, which is known as good protector of Plutonium against uncontrolled proliferation. A new reactor burn-up concept, where relative shapes neutron flux, nuclide densities and power density are constant but move to an axial direction with constant velocity during the whole life of the reactor operation, were also studied. It was proposed the very long-life fast reactor with high burn-up of about 400 GWd/t in this new concept.

    昨年度に引き続き数値解析を行い、その結果、レーザー発振に必要となる励起酸素の生成には、ガス温度が低く(1000K程度)、電子温度が高い(7000〜9000K)熱的に非平衡なプラズマが望ましいと言う結果が得られた。そこで、マイクロ波放電により比較的低気圧(0.5〜10Torr程度)の酸素プラズマを生成し、同プラズマの酸素ヨウ素レーザー媒質への応用の可能性について検証を行った。本プラズマは石英放電管内部において、2.45GHzのマイクロ波放電により生成される。放電条件としては、マイクロ波発振電力600W,放電圧力0.5〜10Torr、酸素ガス流量0〜0.5l/minであった。酸素原子励起準位からの発光スペクトルを分光分析し、原子励起数密度分布を測定した。その結果、プラズマは電離プラズマに特有な密度分布をしており、同プラズマが電離プラズマであることを確認した。電離プラズマでは原子励起数密度が原子基底状態数密度に比例することにより、同プラズマが圧力が高くなるにつれ、また下流に進むにつれ酸素分子の解離度が低下することを確認した。励起酸素O_2a^1Δの検出を試みたが、測光システムの検出効率に限界があり検出できなかった。ダブルプローブ法によりプラズマ下流域において電子温度と電子密度を測定した結果、それぞれ0.4〜5.0eV,10^8〜10^<12>cm^3となり、両者ともに高気圧放電となるにつれて低下する傾向が見いだされた。また励起酸素O_2a^1Δの生成に適した電子温度7000〜9000Kの条件が、放電圧力4〜10Torrの間で達成されることを確認した。以上本件級の結果、マイクロ波放電酸素プラズマ下流域において、マイクロ波出力600W,放電圧力4〜10Torrにおいて酸素ヨウ素レーザー触媒として適切な酸素プラズマが生成されている可能性があることが判明した。

    As a new method to treat the chloride waste discharged from the future pyrochemical reprocessing we propose the direct vitrification of chloride waste by using oxygen plasma. In this project, to discuss about the scientific feasibility of this direct vitrification, several experimental results has been carried out. in experiments various samples which contain a metal chloride and glass materials are vitrified by the oxygen plasma irradiation. From the analy ses of these samples, the following results were obtained. Cry stal structure of the sample changes into amorphous one by a short time irradiation, a certain amount of metal elements can remainits each element has a characteristic for remaining Chlorine is mostly removed from the samples after a short time irradiation. From these results we can conclude that metal chlorides can be vitrified directly by using oxygen plasma and the method which we suggested is very powerful and has a large potential for practical use.

    A special feature of our microwave heated plasma generator has been shown as a source of high concentration reactive atoms in the discharge of molecular gases. The mixed feed gas which is consists of CF_4 arid O_2 and flow rates was used for decontamibnation experiments, considering the stability of microwave discharge and the efficiency of radical generation into account And also the input power of microwave about 1.5 kW was chosen. As the substance which is decontaminated cobbalt oxide was used. Some drops of the solution of cobalt nitride with known concentration was dropped on a sample stainless steal plate (SUS304). After the weight drops was measured precisely, the plate was heated up to 500 。C and maintained at the same temp earature during 1 hour. Thus the black colored spot of cobalt oxide stained on the plate. For the measurements of cobalt ICP was used after dissolved into HCl solution. As a result, cobalt can be removed from the surface almost -100% at 250 seconds of decontamination time. Obtained decontamination efficiency is higher than reference value in the cobalt decontamination experiments which was carried out in low pressure. Also thermody namic modelling calculation was carried out for other elements, namely, Lanthanide (La, Gd) and Actinide (U,Pu) and the possibility of this application was described. From these results it was concluded that the method which we suggested is very powerful and has a large potential for practical use.

    An ultimate goal of the nuclear energy research and development is to establish the way to harmonize the nuclear energy with global environment and human society in future. The comprehensive study has been performed based on the fusion and accelerator technologies in addition to the fission technology for the feasibility of the nuclear energy system that satisfies simultaneously at least the following four objectives ; (1) energy production, (2) fuel breeding, (3) Transmutation of radioactive materials, (4) system safety.
    Neutron abundance of the system is the key element to achieve these objectives. The potential of fission reaction in excess neutron generation is rather poor to transmute nuclear waste with high efficiency. To overcome these difficulties, non-fission neutron producing reactions such as spallation and fusion reactions are introduced to improve neutron balance. The general methodology was developed to evaluate the excess neutron generation and energy balance in the various external neutron sources.
    Comparative analyses on the excess neutron, energy balance and transmutation of the wastes in various nuclear energy system have been performed based on the proposed methodology. Nuclear database were prepared for the evaluating the transmutation of fission productions. Chemical/isotope separation methods and the safety characteristics of the system were also studied.
    Finally, it is concluded that multi-component system with Accelerator-driven reactor and Fission-fusion hybrid reactor demonstrates clear advantage in approaching Zero-Release of Radioactive Materials from the nuclear energy system.

    The oxygenation reaction of metal chlorides were tested by using the microwave heated oxygen plasma and their results were compared with the calculated equilibrium diagrams. The oxygenation characteristics by the oxygen plasma were concluded as follows.
    1. The experimental results of typical chlorides showed qualitatively how ease or hard their oxygenation are. Each experimental result of typical samples can be explained well by its calculated equilibrium diagram.
    2. Although in our experimental conditions, all of sample chlorides could not be oxygenated even if using the oxygen plasma. The equilibrium phase diagrams for the most of metal chlorides which appears in the waste showed that their oxides can be obtained if the high temperature conditions are given. The microwave heated oxygen plasma can be a strong tool for such a oxygenation reaction of metal chlorides wastes.
    3. The oxygenation characteristics were classified into three categories according to their oxygenation difficulties. For the oxygenation of the clorides of the magnesium type category, it is importantant to remove chlorine to shift the equilibrium by using a remover such as hydrogen. For the oxygenation of chalorides of the strontium type element whose oxides exist only as gas phase in high temperature region, the reaction quenching technique such as rapid cooling is required. The chlorides of the celium type can be oxygenated easily.

    When a DC are discharge between electrodes took place across a thin capillary with its pressure about 10 Torr, the eathode region became enriched in the heavy isotope, while the anode region became enriched in the light isotope. We made an apparatus to make the DC are plasma for a sufficient long time to make the experiments of the neon isotope separation. The discharge tube (capillary) is made of quartz, and contained in a pyrex-glass pipe of 13-cm i.d. On its both ends, two flanges are connected, and they hold the electrodes and the capillary. The tips of the both electrodes are made of tantalum foil tube and mounted on water-cooled copper conductor. The ends of the capillary are connected to metal chambers in the flanges, and each of them is connected to a different sampling gas chambr. We studied the separation of neon isotopes under closed-system conditions. We examined the time constant for the relaxation to an equilibrium concentration, which was found to be 60-80 minutes. We investigated the effects of the length of capillary, discharging current, and the discharging pressure, on the equilibrium concentration. Consequyently, the separation factor became larger when the pressure was lower, when the capillary was longer, and when the discharging current was larger. We derive the equation which gives the enrichment factor from the experimental parameters by modifying one of the theoretical equations proposed. The observed enrichment factor is well explained by the equation.

    本研究は《固相分子法による高選択レーザー分離法》(『固相レーザー分子法』)を確立するために、分子衝突が無視できる反応場で量子反応を選択的に制御し、レーザーによる高選択性、高収率をもたらす《新分離方法論》を構築する。固相マトリックスの創成条件を測定するためクライオスタットを製作した。クライオスタットを含むマトリックス創成装置を用いて、光学的に透明で凝縮相の成長速度が大きい条件に関して、基板温度一定の条件で測定した。またその結果を理論解析によって推定し、成長のメカニズムを検討した。
    液体窒素温度(-195.8℃)で固相マトリックスの創成実験を行ない、凝縮可能なキセノンガスを凝縮させた。またキセノンの透明な凝縮相を多層化する機能条件を確立した。キセノンガスの固相マトリックスは不活性分子の凝縮体であるため、光学的な吸収帯は認められず、光学特性は良好であった。またSF_6分子の単分子相をマトリックス中に層状に吸着させ、キセノンガスでコートする多層化法を検討する。レーザーにより反応性分子(SF_6)を励起、解離させる方法を実験的に検討する。次に反応分子の励起エネルギーがキセノン分子によって緩和されるので、解離分子の寿命を光学的に測定し、解離分子の平均寿命を延長するための方法論を研究する。
    数値解析によると、結晶表面の適応係数αおよび結晶の熱伝導度(結晶密度)がこれらの環境にとって重要な因子であることが分かった。『ラジカルライフタイム測定システム』を用いて透明結晶層の光透過度を測定し、波長依存性を測定した。その結果、結晶の透明度は表面温度と密接に関係していた。また結晶の成長速度は結晶の透明度を決定する要因ではなかった。
