Low-dimensional (0D/1D/2D) nanomaterials exhibit unique physical and chemical properties different from general bulk materials due to enhanced surface and interface contributions and quantum confinement effects, which strongly modulate electronic structures. Boron, with atomic number 5, can form multicenter bonds and enables the construction of structurally diverse nanomaterials across different dimensionalities. In this review, boron-based low-dimensional materials are systematically organized from 0D clusters to 1D nanostructures and 2D sheets, and their optical and electrical properties are discussed in relation to structural factors such as dimensionality. This review provides an integrated perspective on how dimensional expansion and structural design govern the optical and electrical properties of boron-based nanomaterials.

We report a supramolecular framework constructed from an iridium(III)–porphyrin complex through self-assembly driven by non-covalent interactions. The afforded crystalline material features an ordered porous structure and isolated emissive centers. This framework exhibits sharp near infrared phosphorescence in the solid state, and the emission bands were narrower than those of the relevant amorphous solid, demonstrating importance of isolated emissive centers.

    Abstract

In this study, we developed a novel electrochemical protocol that enables the functionalization of inherently inert C(sp3)−H bonds. In this protocol, one‐electron oxidation of acetic acid was used to successfully generate methyl radical, which cleaves the benzylic C(sp3)−H bonds of the substrates via a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process, and further reaction with the formed species yields the targeted C(sp3)−H functionalized products. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of the use of acetic acid in a HAT process. Notably the reaction has environment‐friendly and fine atom economy nature: the reaction is driven by the electrochemical conditions in the absence of expensive or hazardous reagents, producing only gaseous small molecules, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane, as side products.

The development of functional metalladithiolene complexes was described. Photo-, magneto-, and electro-functional moieties were hybridized with a metalladithiolene backbone to produce novel electronic properties, such as photo-controlled three-state switching, and a SOMO-HOMO converted electronic structure. Long range electronic communication and three-dimensional clusterization were achieved on triangular trinuclear metalladithiolene complexes. The atomiclayer nickel dithiolene nanosheet was successfully prepared, in which nickel bis(dithiolene)moieties were connected through benzene skeletons to form a fully π-conjugated hexagonal structure in two dimensions. The electric properties of the stacked nanosheets were modulated by chemical redox reaction.

2017, Adv. Mater.
Lett. 2021, Selected paper, Cover article)。

In this study, solution-phase synthesis of superatoms was demonstrated by using dendrimers as templates of metals. The dendrimer enables a stepwise assembly of metal salts in a dendrimer, which leads to control of the number and ratio of metals in a cluster.
Firstly, precision assembly of typical metal species was achieved. The typical metals includes boron, aluminum, gallium tin, and bismuth species. Then, control of complexation strength was achieved for the synthesis of multi-metallic clusters. Beyond these results, solution-phase synthesis of superatoms were achieved by using aluminum or gallium atoms.

Using the dendrimer reactor method, we have achieved the accumulation of 67 of the 76 stable elements into dendrimers. Among them, 35 metallic elements successfully formed subnanopartes, and hybrid subnanoparticles consisting of three different metals were synthesized precisely for the first time.
Furthermore, we succeeded in the liquid phase synthesis of Al13 for the first time, which was the symbolic super atom. We have also discovered the halogen superatom Ga13, and a G-block superatom. We have elucidated sub-nanoparticles as highly active catalysts and demonstrated specific luminescence and magnetic functions in superatoms.

Stepwise assembly of typical metals (e.g. GaCl3, SnCl2 and BCl3) in to the dendrimer was achieved. By using these metal-complex dendrimers as precursors, size-controlled typical metal clusters were obtained.
In addition to these metal clusters, dendrimer complexes using BiCl3 or BH3 were found to be functional materials. The bismuth assembled dendrimer showed luminous feature. This emission intensity could be controlled by the assembled amount of BiCl3 or electrochemical stimuli based on reversibility of the complexation. The assembly of BH3 units was applied for a reducing capsule which was able to fabricate size-controlled metal clusters without assembly process.

Chem. Soc. 2013, 135, 2462.)。
