    This study addresses the challenge of power supply in bioelectrochemical devices by developing self-powered devices that do not require external energy sources. To promote the oxygen reduction reaction at higher potential than the anode, iron-nitrogen-carbon catalysts were used, and polytetrafluoroethylene was adopted as the optimal binder at neutral pH. In microbial fuel cells, a stable and highly active air-diffusion cathode was developed by supporting the catalyst on a water-repellent carbon cloth. In enzymatic biofuel cells, a self-powered blood glucose monitoring chip sensor was realized. These findings demonstrate that designing an appropriate catalyst environment enables high activity even in physiological conditions, allowing for a wide range of applications.

    ミクロ相分離構造を発現し得るポリイミドとして、柔軟鎖と剛直鎖を有するマルチブロックコポリマーを設計した。柔軟鎖としてアルキル鎖やシロキサン鎖を含むジアミンを数種類新規に合成することに成功した。剛直鎖としては市販のテトラカルボン酸二無水物に加えて、ベンゼン環を4から10個程度含むモノマーを数種類検討した。モノマーの構造は核磁気共鳴法と赤外吸収分光法によって決定した。ポリイミドの合成において、モノマーの分子量の決定は特に重要であるので、いくつかの手法を用いて慎重に検討を行った。これらのモノマーを開環付加重合反応と、それに続く熱閉環反応に供することによって、粉末状のポリイミドサンプルを得た。粘度測定の結果、十分な分子量を有するポリマーが得られたことが分かった。得られたサンプルを熱重量分析、小角X線散乱、広角X線回折、示差走査熱量測定によって解析した。その結果いくつかのサンプルで、恒等周期長が数ナノメートルの規則的な構造が発現していることが示唆された。このような構造は本研究が目指している、メソポーラス構造の発現に適しているので、好ましい現象である。一方で、恒等周期長が数十ナノメートルに達するようなミクロ相分離構造を見出すまでには至っていない。剛直鎖と柔軟鎖の長さの比がさらに異なるポリイミドを用意し、またアニーリングの条件などを詳細に検討して、作り出せる恒等周期長の範囲をさらに広げることが肝要であると考えられる。

    This project focused on a hyperbranched poly(ether) ketone with phthalic anhydride as a promising polymer material for advanced catalytic reactions. Such a polymer was successfully obtained by the polycondensation of an AB2 monomer. The weight average molecular weight of the obtained polymer was in the range of 12-220 kDa. Furthermore, the crosslinking of the obtained monomer was also successfully performed, which makes this polymer promising as a catalytic material for solid catalytic reactions. The crosslinked polymer has certainly exhibited catalytic activity for the hydrolysis of cellobiose.

    Aromatic polymers are good at thermal and chemical stability, and have been widely utilized in various field of the industry; however, the application in catalysis had not been well explored. In this study, novel catalyst materials have been successfully developed by immobilizing hyperbranched poly(ether sulfone) and hyperbranched poly(ether ketone) onto carbon materials.

    15N-labelled polyaniline (PANI) is heat treated in a nitrogen atmosphere.The 13C and 15N solid state(SS) NMR results imply that the reconstruction of the polymer backbone occurs in the temperature range 400 to 600°C and the nitrogen of Phe-NH-Phe amino group changes to pyrrolic or tertiary nitrogen and the imine nitrogen changes to pyridinic nitrogen. Heat-treatment above 700°C leads to a decrease in the number of five-membered rings containing nitrogen atoms (pyrrolic), while the number of six-membered rings containing nitrogen (pyridinic, pyridineoxide and pridinium) increases.
    The pyrolyzed metal(Mn, Fe, Co, Ni or Cu)-containing PANI was studied by SS NMR.The 15N CP/MAS NMR spectrum of PANIFe800 shows no peak. The 15N spin-echo NMR spectra with fast recycle delay show the peaks. It is because of the paramagnetic effect of metal ions. The spectra of PANIFe800 show some spinning side bands and the Fe3+-15N distance can be calculated.
