Profile

Dr. Sachiko Matsushita is the specialist of nanofabrication, both in bottom-up and top-down methods.
She has been working in colloidal crystals over 15 years, and the one of the pioneers of functional inverse opals. As the applications, emitting electrode, solar cell, plasmonic sensing devises had been examined.

Now she is working on two major topics: the metal nanostructures for new plasmonics such as metamaterials, and thermoelectronic materials without rare metals.

    The self-assembly preparation methods and application of two-dimensional colloidal crystals, in which fine spherical particles (15nm-20μm) are two-dimensionally periodically ordered on solid substrates, are reviewed. Among the preparation methods, evaporation-driven self-assembly, electrophoretic deposition, ink-jet printing, lift-up soft lithography are reveiwed. As examples of the applications, antireflection films, micro-lens arrays, a model of photonic crystals, and masks for lithography are introduced.

    A dissipative process enabled us to prepare hierarchical structures by one-step fabrication. A variety of periodic structures arose spontaneously from volatile oil droplets (organic solvent with amphiphilic polymer) and water droplets (particle water suspension) under high humidity. The resulting material had a honeycomb-like structure (the pore size was 1 mm), packed with functional fine particles, fluorescent polystyrene or titanium dioxide. This process suggested to us that many materials suspended in water, such as viruses (10 -200 nm diameter) and liposomes (20 -50 nm), could self-organize into periodic structures.

    This presentation would introduce the preparation of two-dimensional colloidal crystal (also mentioned "two-dimensional array") of fine particles. In this type of colloidal crystals, the layers were stacked under two-dimensional forces and formed monolayers or multilayers. The advantages of two-dimensional colloidal crystals are the controllability of the number of the layers and the ease of modification both chemically and physically.

    Using organic perovskite materials that are used as materials for sensitized solar cells and for which thermally excited charge generation is theoretically predicted, power generation by both light and heat is confirmed, and as a result, the principle of sensitized thermal power generation is proven(ACS Appl. Energy Mater., 2019, 2, 13-18).
    Also, in the process of checking the end of the battery, it was surprisingly confirmed that the battery "turns off the switch and leaves it in a heat source recovered the power generation performance" after the discharge. This phenomenon was a great discovery, which was completely unexpected at the time of this research grant application stage.

    Sintered bodies of Gd2O3 were prepared by uniaxial pressing of an oxide powder, followed by firing in a synthesized air atmosphere. Samples were initially hydrophilic after firing. However, their water contact angles increased during storage in ambient air. The surface hydrophobicity was non-existent after ozonation, but it recovered during two weeks of ambient air storage. It corresponded to the carbon concentration ratio on the surface. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy revealed a difference in stretching vibrations of the OH group at around 3400 cm-1 and 3600 cm-1 between Gd2O3 and other oxides. Results suggest that this hydrophobicity originated from the adsorption of organic substances from ambient air onto the surface. Similar effect was confirmed also on ZnO nanorod samples. Based on these results, we have successfully prepared an oxide ceramics with self-hydrophobicity, antibacterial and antivirus properties.

    With the application of photonic crystals to the photochemical reaction in mind, this research aims to find a photonic crystal structure having a full photonic band gap (capability of completely confining light in three dimensions) by titanium oxide having photooxidation / reduction capability.
    There are three major achievements of this research. 1) Computed discovery of a structure with full photonic band gap composed of titanium oxide / electrolyte solution, 2) Establishment of titanium oxide lithography technology to produce such a structure, 3) And it was confirmed experimentally that the calculation was correct.

    Effects of water vapor treatment (WVT) on the oxide surface for the wettability conversion to hydrophobicity was investigated. Experimental results revealed that this treatment deteriorates bondings of oxide surface with forming adsorption sites such as OH groups for various hydrophobic agents with OH and COOH groups. The effectiveness of this treatment depends on both oxide materials and the surface modifiers. Comparative study between WVT and vacuum-UV illumination suggested that the WVT is more effective to rough oxide surface or oxide porous materials than vacuum-UV illumination. The hydrophobic porous glass prepared through this treatment became a superhydrophobic material and exhibited excellent static and dynamic hydrophobicity.

    The objective of this research is to specify the materials which can generate spontaneous interface tension change. We focus on the famous Dupeyrat's system, i. e., saturated KI/I_2 nitrobenzene solution and stearylammonium chloride(STA-Cl) aqueous solution. Thanks for this budget, we could obtain two important results as described below(1) The mechanism of the activation of the spontaneous motion of a nitrobenzene droplet by chlorobenzene blending was revealed.(2) Spontaneous interface tension change system without I_2(Saturated NaCl nitrobenzene/STA-Cl aqueous solution, and saturated ZnCl_2 nitrobenzene/STA-Cl aqueous solution) was discovered and the mechanism was proposed.

    本申請は、フォトニック結晶を利用して色素増感型太陽電池の効率向上を試みるものである。フォトニック結晶とは光波長程度の周期構造体で、規則構造表面の光近接場が共鳴することにより光を閉じ込めることができる光デバイスである。
    色素増感型太陽電池では、まず色素の電子が入射光hν_1により励起される。励起された電子が酸化チタンに移ることにより電気が流れる。しかしこのとき、励起された電子のすべてが酸化チタンへ移るのではなく、何割かの電子は色素内の発光hν_2に使われる。申請者は、この色素の発光をフォトニック結晶で抑制することにより、一色素あたりの光電変換効率が向上するのではないかと考え、色素増感型フォトニック結晶電極の作製を行い光電変換効率を測定したところ、一色素あたりの光電変換効率が向上するという結果を得た。
    フォトニック結晶としては、化学的修飾が容易な自己集積型フォトニック結晶を使用している。本年度は特に、光機能界面における近接場共鳴を見るため、表面凹凸が極端に少ない機能性フォトニック結晶の作製を行った(BCSJ, in press.)。特に、良い再現性を得るために自己集積化技術の向上を試み、依頼総説の執筆および4件の招待講演を行わせていただいた。また、本フォトニック結晶を利用して、化学吸着した色素のみを残して色素増感型太陽電池の効率、全散乱スペクトル、光音響スペクトルの測定、さらにフォトニックバンドダイアグラムの計算を行い、国内外発表7件、また下記業績以外に論文2報をsubmitした。

    本研究は、散逸過程により作製される微粒子の規則構造を用いた光→化学エネルギー変換機能材料を作製することを目的としている。取り扱った散逸構造は、薄膜上の溶液に働く移流を利用して直径19nmから21μmの微粒子を集積する二次元コロイド結晶と言う構造体であり、作製条件により微粒子を一層、二層、三層と層数を作り分けることが出来るなどの特徴を持つ。この規則構造体の応用として、本プロジェクトではフォトニック結晶を取り上げている。フォトニック結晶とは光の波長程度の規則構造体であり、光を制御する材料として注目を集めている。
    昨年は、フォトニック結晶で色素の発光を抑制することにより、色素増感型太陽電池の一色素あたりの光電変換効率が変化することを報告した。今年度は、様々な粒径の色素増感型フォトニック結晶電極を作製し、時間分解蛍光測定を行った。本測定の結果を用いて、フォトニック結晶内で発光が抑制されている色素の励起電子の寿命が構造によりどのように変化するかを検討し、光電変化効率変化にフォトニック結晶構造がどのように効いているのかを検討した。
    尚、本プロジェクトの研究成果については以下のマスコミで取り上げていただいたので、本欄にて報告する;
