    Abstract

    Alloy 718 is an important class of Nb-bearing Ni-based superalloys for high-temperature applications, such as compressor disks/blades and turbine disks in gas turbine systems. The service temperature of this alloy is, however, limited below 650 °C probably due to the degradation of its strengthening phase γ"-Ni3Nb. Aiming at understanding and improving creep properties of 718-type alloys, we investigated creep behaviors of alloy 718 and alloy Ta-718 where different types of γ" phases, Ni3Nb and Ni3Ta, were precipitated, respectively. Creep tests were conducted at 700 °C under stress conditions of 400 and 500 MPa for the two alloys in aged conditions. It was found that while the minimum creep rates were comparable in the two alloys, the creep rate acceleration was lower in alloy Ta-718 than in alloy 718 under the creep conditions studied. Microstructural observations on the specimens before and after the creep tests suggested that the γ" precipitates were distinguishably finer in alloy Ta-718 than in alloy 718 throughout the creep tests. The formation of planar defects and shearing of γ" precipitates occurred frequently in the alloy 718 specimen. The observed creep deformations were discussed in terms of the critical resolved shear stress due to shearing of γ" particles by strongly paired dislocations.

    Relationship between the precipitation of delta-Ni3Nb (D0a) phase and eta-Ni3Ti (D024) phase and the lattice misfit between the delta(eta) phases and the Ni (fcc) matrix phase were investigated in model Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb and Ni-Cr-Mo-Ti based alloys to aim at designing polycrystalline Ni based alloys with better temperature capability. Discontinuous precipitation (DC) tends to occur at lower temperatures while continuous precipitation (CP) dominates at higher temperatures in the two alloy systems. The addition of Mo promotes CP with respect to DC while that of Ti promotes DC rather than CP in delta phase precipitation alloys. A replacement of Ti with Mo promotes CP with respect to DP in eta phase precipitation alloys at 800 degree C. The observed effects are discussed in terms of chemical driving force, interfacial energy between the matrix phase and the delta(eta) phases, and coherency strain caused by the formation of the metastable phases prior to the formation of delta(eta) phases.

    We aim at strengthening creep resistant ferritic steels by controlling precipitation of Laves phase along the eutectoid type reaction path of delta ferrite phase, and have obtained the following results: (1) we have found a metallurgical way to have fine distribution of Laves phase through interphase precipitation, (2) we have found that the creep life improves at relatively low stress/high temperature conditions by introducing fine distribution of Laves phase through interphase precipitation, probably because of the increase in the resistance for the recovery and recrystallization against creep deformation.

    In the present study we investigated precipitation of Fe2M (Laves) phase along a eutectoid-type transformation pathway from delta ferrite to austenite + Laves to aim at establishing a new microstructure controlling method in heat resistant ferritic steels. The main results are: (1) There are two types of precipitation sequences: interphase precipitation and pearlite type reaction. (2) The interphase precipitation takes place only in a very short time period at high temperatures, which indicates that it is necessary to slow down the reaction to use it in practice. (3) Pearlite type reaction is about 3 orders of magnitude slower than the interphase precipitation, which can be easily applied into practical thermomechanical processing.

    For two-phase intermetallic alloys composed of two kinds of Ni3X-type compounds, alloy design, microstructural development and stabilities of microstructures and constituent phases were studied, seeking the alloying elements and their optimum contents enhancing high-temperature properties such as mechanical and environment-proof properties. Also, the primary fabrication processes by melting/casting and powder metallurgy as well as the secondary fabrication processes by heat treatment, machining and surface modification were developed. In collaboration with industries, the present two-phase intermetallic alloys were applied to various kinds of high-temperature structural, wear resistance and corrosion resistance materials.

    The study is aimed at developing heat resistant Fe_3Al base alloys with high specific strength to replace commercial Ti alloys and heat resistant steels. The objective of this study was two-fold. First, to study the strengthening mechanism of thermomechanically processed Fe_3Al alloys. Second, to investigate high temperature strength and microstructural stability of thermomechanically processed Fe_3Al alloys. The main results are :
    (1) The introduction of relatively fine κ-Fe_3AlC carbide particles into the matrix during warm rolling promotes the subdivision of matrix grains and is thus effective for strengthening the alloys at relatively low temperatures.
    (2) The addition of a small amount of Mo into the alloys is beneficial to enhance 0.2% proof stress below 600℃ and the microstructural stability at high temperatures.

    近年、鉄にアルミニウムを14mass%以上含むFe3Al合金が日米欧で精力的に研究されてきました。この合金は高温での耐酸化性、耐硫化性が非常に優れており、かつ従来の鉄鋼材料に比べて約15%軽量という長所を持ちます。これまでの研究により、粗大な析出物粒子を熱間加工中に導入することにより結晶粒の微細化に成功し、Ti合金に匹敵する高比強度が得られることを見出しました。500度付近までの高温で使用される燃焼器、タービンブレード等への実用化に向けた応用研究を共同で行っていただける企業のパートナーを希望します。
