    We propose PureCLIP-Depth, a completely prompt-free, decoder-free Monocular Depth Estimation (MDE) model that operates entirely within the Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) embedding space. Unlike recent models that rely heavily on geometric features, we explore a novel approach to MDE driven by conceptual information, performing computations directly within the conceptual CLIP space. The core of our method lies in learning a direct mapping from the RGB domain to the depth domain strictly inside this embedding space. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance among CLIP embedding-based models on both indoor and outdoor datasets.     Abstract

    The present study aims to characterize the flow field during droplet evaporation. Evaporation-driven flow in a sessile droplet is experimentally visualized and analyzed using micro-particle image velocimetry (Micro-PIV). In the experiments, tracer-seeded sessile mixture droplets were allowed to evaporate on a substrate, while Micro-PIV captured the time-resolved internal velocity fields. To accelerate data processing for tracking droplet shape evolution, a deep-learning-assisted image analysis method was employed. The principles of hyperparameter optimization for applying Micro-PIV to sub-micron droplets are discussed to improve the accuracy of quantitative measurements. Visualization results for glycerol-water mixture droplets are presented and analyzed. The findings reveal the fundamental flow regimes: a recirculating bulk flow was observed throughout most of the evaporation period. In terms of quantitative measurements, the internal flow velocity initially increased, peaked at approximately mid-evaporation, and subsequently decreased as drying progressed. The combined Micro-PIV and deep learning approach provides a powerful methodology for efficiently acquiring experimental data and elucidating the dynamics of droplet evaporation.

    Abstract

    This study presents an experimental measurement of interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) at polymer–polymer interfaces using a multi‐layered bulk sample approach. ITR is commonly measured using thin‐film techniques, but new advancements enable testing in bulk materials with multilayered structures. However, traditional multilayer fabrication is often resource‐intensive and lacks consistency. This study introduces a simple rotational overlapping method for fabricating multi‐layered polymer samples for bulk ITR measurement. Combining numerical simulations with experimental validation, researchers optimize layer overlapping conditions using measured viscosity data of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polylactic acid (PLA). Samples are fabricated at viscosity‐matching temperatures, and shear forces from stirring disks create uniform layer patterns. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations elucidate the layer formation mechanism, enabling the fabrication of samples with over 112 layers within a 4.6 mm thickness. ITR testing reveals a direct correlation between layer number and thermal resistance. PE‐PP samples exhibit an average ITR of 9.58 × 10−6 K m2 W−1, with a 10.32% increase in resistance from 38 to 112 layers. Similarly, PE‐PLA samples with an ITR of 1.31 × 10−5 K m2 W−1 show a 2.8% increase from 5 to 23 layers. Overall, The experimental procedure provides valuable data to advance the understanding of ITR in polymer–polymer interfaces.

    This paper deals with a fundamental study on the weld structure of thin-wall injection molded polypropylene plates. Effects of the mold temperature and plate thickness on the weld characteristics were investigated. In the experiment, several measurements were performed; distribution of the optical retardation, specific latent heat for fusion, V notch depth and width, and tensile strength of the specimen. The results indicated that the fountain flow of the melt occurred in the filling stage even with a plate thickness of 0.3 mm. It was also shown that molecular orientation in the weld region was relatively low. Thermal property measurement showed that crystallinity of the molded specimen was affected not only by the mold wall temperature but also by the plate thickness. Mechanical strength reduction by the existence of the weld was experimentally confirmed through the tensile test, and it was shown that the thin-wall polypropylene plate molded at high mold temperature broke from the weld region under small strain.

    This paper deals with a high viscous fluid behavior under the coating head of Melt Transcription Molding Process, which is one of a novel polymer processing recently developed. Flow field analysis of the process is the key issue to determine the optimum process conditions. Thus a simplified experimental apparatus was constructed to model the coating process under iso-thermal condition, and the particle image velocimetry (PIV) was applied to visualize the flow field. The results showed that the flow condition was significantly influenced by the feed rate of the high viscous fluid and the geometry of the die exit. Pressure distribution on the coated surface was also estimated according to the strain rate in the field. Obtained result was compared with the pressure profile experimentally measured, and they showed quantitative agreement. By summarizing these results, optimum conditions to stabilize the coating flow was discussed.

    This promising model for this rapid heating-cooling device is a two ways heat pump that can generate heat and cool down by adsorption and desorption processes of desiccant. First two desiccants that are a conventional one treated with silica gel and another one is zeolite 13X were tested. By comparing basic characteristics of these desiccants such as humidity adsorption capacity, specific surface area, pore size and particle size was clarified that zeolite 13X has better performance in order to adsorb water vapor than silica gel. So, the zeolite 13X has been chosen for test material in this research. Then, a test device that contains the zeolite 13x was fabricated, and the performance of heat generation and cooling was experimentally examined. The results showed that this device can raise surrounding solid wall's temperature up to 40 K higher by adsorption of humidity and the maximum rate of heat generation is 4.8 W/g. It is also be able to cool down surrounding solid wall's temperature 15 K lower by desorption of water from the desiccant. Using the obtained results, a model that can estimate the heat generation/cooling process in the device was derived, and the optimum operation condition was discussed for injection molding application.

    In this paper, nanobubble shrunk from microbubble generated by electrolysis was observed by optical microscope in order to distinguish a bubble from impurities or contamination in the water. potential, which represents the electric charge of bubbles, was measured by electrophoresis method. Observation of Brownian motion of nanobubble was succeeded by generating bubble which rising velocity was very small. Mean displacement and diameter of nanobubble and ZnO particle was simultaneously measured and compared. As a consequence, mean displacement of bubble is smaller than that of ZnO particle due to different structure of interface. Mean displacement of smaller bubble was closed in the value of ZnO particle because of condensation of ion and impurities at interface. To consider such interface structure, relationship between bubbles diameter and potential was measured. As a result, the absolute value of c potential was decreased when bubble diameter was small in nano scale because the ratio of impurities accounting for interface was increased.

    This paper deals with a local laser heating technique using photochromic-dye. He-Cd laser was used as excitation light source to actively control the radiation absorption coefficient of the dye added polymer material, and Ar^+ laser was used as heating light source. Both experimental and numerical simulation studies were carried out to elucidate the characteristics of the present technique. The results showed that the radiation absorption coefficient distribution in the sample thickness direction and the color attenuation effect of the dye during the heating had large effect on the temperature increase. According to the obtained knowledge, laser transmitting welding process for transparent polymer material was successfully realized.

    In the present study, non-intrusive interferometric technique was developed for the temperature field visualization of cylinder surfaces of melting polymer and surrounding fluid flows. Since the temperature is determined as the integration of refractive index, neither span wise temperature distribution nor temperature around the curved surface could be obtained by the conventional interferometers. For such distributed fields, computed tomography is one of the significant techniques that makes an internal structure clear and facilitates the understanding of the volumetric structure in fluid. The interferometer and thermocouple were firstly compared to assess the validity of the present technique and both measured results agreed well. The technique was applied to the tomographic measurement of metal cylinder with angular temperature gradient.

    This research project aims to reduce energy consumption in the rapid temperature control of molds used in the polymer injection molding process. The investigators proposed a novel system in which a desiccant regenerated by unused thermal energy is transported to and used for rapid heating of the mold, and the effectiveness of this system was examined under the practical condition. Test molds which include rapid heating mechanism based on the adsorption heating of a desiccant and desorption chambers in which the desiccant is regenerated by unused thermal energy at low temperature were prototyped, and, based on the fundamental characteristics of these components, we discussed the reduction efficiency of energy consumption in the rapid mold temperature control under the practical molding conditions. The results showed that the proposed system can reduce at least 24 % of energy consumption compared with the case of heating the mold directly with electric power.

    In order to reduce energy consumption necessary for dynamic temperature control of molds of plastic injection molding, we proposed a novel concept to change the mold temperature by adsorption/desorption of water vapor to/from a adsorption heat storage material included in the mold, and the feasibility was examined from the viewpoints of energy reduction and influence on the productivity. As the results, it was shown that the mold temperature can be definitely risen by the heat generation due to adsorption of water vapor to the heat storage material, and that quality of the molded is improved and thus the energy consumption is reduced to that extent. On the other hand, this study also revealed that effective mold heating requires some devices that guide the heat generated in the heat storage material to the cavity surface, and that regeneration of the heat storage material after heat generation takes relatively long time and thus deterioration of productivity is not negligible.

    In this study, a novel heat transport system was developed in order to reduce energy consumption for dynamic temperature control of the molds used in the polymer injection molding process. The heat transport system, which is a batch-type heat pipe, connects two molds of different temperature, and the heat accumulated in the high-temperature mold is transported to the low-temperature mold. Effectiveness of the heat transport system was experimentally examined from the viewpoints of the reduction of energy consumption and of the rate of temperature change of the molds. From the results, it was shown that the energy consumption can be reduced up to 41% by the heat exchange, and that the rate of mold temperature change is equivalent to or rather higher than the conventional method, i. e. electric heater and coolant.

    In the present research, the innovative measurement systems for the dispersed two-phase flow fields was developed. The laser light scattering by the sphere was analyzed. Bubble dissolution process, which diameter is below several micrometer, was firstly investigated. The system was also applied to the measurement of the behavior of evaporating liquid hydrocarbon with high temporal resolution beyond several kHz. Moreover the meso- and nano-scale particle image velocimetry technique in vacuum was newly developed by means of the scanning electron microscope in conjunction with an ionic liquid.

    微細流路における流れの新たな解析手法の開発はマイクロ分析チップ,集積回路内の輸送現象などの先端領域で注目されており,マイクロマシン技術の進化とともに微細熱交換器の製作も行われているが,これら微細な流体素子を的確に制御するにはミクロ領域での流動構造の把握が必要とされて来た.特に分散性二相流においては従来の連続体近似,アナロジーとしての移動現象とは全く異なるスケール効果の発現が顕著である.本研究ではナノ秒パルスレーザ光と高解像度高精度CCDカメラを用いたレーザ散乱・干渉光学系を構築,粒子散乱光の干渉撮影法を超微小気泡流れに適用,分散相の個々の移動速度とその径の同時計測により高精度な統計値抽出に十分なデータ収集を行うことが可能となった.連続相との相互作用をはじめとする流動構造を決定付ける支配パラメータの抽出に成功,空間的な物質移動現象を明らかにした.また,より小スケールの分散粒子を測定可能とするため広視野角レーザ散乱粒径測定システムを構築,ナノメートルスケールに迫る領域への拡張をも念頭に置きローレンツ・ミー散乱理論,レーリー散乱理論に基づく大規模な数値解析を行い,粒子径測定の可能性についての理論的検証および基礎的な検証実験を行った.蛍光・燐光性分子を検出するレーザ誘起蛍光発光法,多次元吸収スペクトル測定法などを活用する新しい計測法を開発,ミクロ移動現象の顕微撮影に適した微細流動場を作成し各種光学パラメータの決定,分子トレーサとしての染料分子の比較検討および選定を行った.流体の揺らぎを考慮した分子トレーシング技術の確立,運動量・熱物質移動量などの大量の計測データを高度に融合解析する複合センシングシステムの開発を行い実流動場の計測実験を行った.ミクロスケール移動現象の解明の足掛かりとして時間空間的に広がりを有する多くの物理量を同時に非接触・非侵襲で観察可能な計測手法を構築し複雑移動現象に関する知見を得た.
