    In this paper, a novel approach of a human motion classification system in wireless body area network (WBAN) using received radio signal strength was developed. This method enables us to classify human motions in WBAN using only the radio signal strength during communication without additional tools such as an accelerometer. The proposed human motion classification system has a potential to be used for improving communication quality in WBAN as well as recording daily-life activities for self-awareness tool. To construct the classification system, a numerical simulation was used to generate WBAN propagation channel in various motions at frequency band of 403.5MHz and 2.45GHz. In the classification system, a feature vector representing a characteristic of human motions was computed from time-series received signal levels. The proposed human motion classification using the radio signal strength based on WBAN simulation can classify 3-5 human motions with the accuracy rate of 63.8-95.7 percent, and it can classify the human motions regardless of frequency band. In order to confirm that the human motion classification using radio signal strength can be used in practice, the applicability of the classification system was evaluated by WBAN measurement data.

    <p>By abdominal circumferences measurements, possibility of metabolic syndrome can be estimated. However to accurately measure abdominal fat, other expensive methods are necessary (e.g. CT scan or MRI). To measure one's visceral fat accurately and overcome this issue, a method to measure one's abdomen accurately and non-invasively, electrical impedance tomography (EIT) for measuring the abdominal area has been proposed. However EIT uses electrodes which contact with human skin, which to be treated carefully. In this report, non-contact method to measure permittivity of abdomen using microwave is proposed. The penetrate wave guide method is applied on large size rectangular wave guide to measure permittivity of human abdomen. Numerical simulations of this method is performed on several kind of layered cylinders which emulate human abdomen. As a result, different scattering coefficients are obtained for each condition. For the future, from measured permittivity, amount of abdominal fat might be estimated.</p>

    <p>Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a wireless sensor network inside, on or around the human body, and is expected to be utilized in medical and health-care applications. Dynamic behavior of radio propagation channel is important information for design and characterization of WBAN system. Various factors simultaneously influence the channel responses, such as position and orientation of antennas, electromagnetic interaction antenna and human body, and obstruction by human body itself. Therefore, it is rather difficult to analyze the propagation mechanism of dynamic WBAN channel. This paper reports the development of simultaneous measurement system of MIMO channel response and body posture of dynamic WBAN channel. Body posture information is utilized to synthesize numerical phantom for electromagnetic simulation via computer animation software. Comparison between measurement and predicted channel responses is possible by using the system, and some examples will be presented.</p>

    There have been numerous studies conducted using a motion capture and a camera to analyze and quantitatively evaluate human locomotion in athletic activities. However, the costs of these equipments are very high. We have developed an inexpensive system with Arduino nano, a microcontroller, and inertial sensors which analyzes flying disc throwing movement to assess the accuracy of the system's measurement. In addition, we discuss the actual parameters that can be obtained by using the system. As a result, it is cleared that upper or left position of hand could capture the highest parameter. we will discuss about sensor position to evaluate proficiency after this.

The period of output signal changes as the distance between the sensors changes. Opening angle of elbow was estimated for evaluation of the sensors.

    This research focuses on WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network), for medical and helathcare use. The WBAN has two problems. (i) There are a few antennas which is suitable for 2.4GHz band which is expected to be used mainly in future. (ii) High reliability of the communication is required in order to apply the medical field WBAN, however the communication condition is influenced by the human motion. In this study, an antenna, which is for WBAN measurement at 2.4 GHz band, was fabricated and designed and the antenna orientation for good communication status during human motion was considered. The antenna is fabricated and measured return loss, and the resonance frequency. In this research, time variation of received level of point-to-point during standing and walking in which transmitter is on navel and receivers are on breast, head, right arm, right wrist, and right ankle is measured in an indoor environment by two subjects. Two-way analysis of variance for the average of the values of the received level whose factors are the orientation of transmit and receive antennas was subjected for each position of the receive antenna and subject. As a result, it is quantitatively shown that the orientation of of the transmit and the receive antenna causes the change of received level. It is also shown that changing antenna orientation commonly improves received level in the case of one-on-one communication, but the best antenna orientation in the case of multiple access communication is depends on subjects during standing and walking. The results of this research would be useful to design highly reliabile WBAN communication systems.

    It is known that reflection wave from a pyramidal type electromagnetic wave absorber used as a wall of anechoic chambers includes high mode diffraction waves. Our research group have studied by experiments and numerical simulations about influence of higher mode diffraction waves from pyramidal wave absorber on performances of anechoic chambers and SVSWR measurements. To analyze or design high frequency or high accuracy anechoic chambers, it is highly required to analyze wave absorbers with high accuracy by considering diffraction waves. Only a parallel incident direction to the base of the pyramid was considered in our previous reports. However, when the incident azimuth is changed, reflection coefficients are supposed to be varied. Therefore, in this report, we examined the change of the coefficients of the diffraction waves from a pyramid type wave absorber by FDTD method when incident azimuth angles are changed. As a result, it was confirmed that diffraction coefficients changed depending on incident azimuth angles and frequencies. We are going to study about the application to a comparison between this results and real measurement and designs of wave absorber in future.

    Our research group has researched about improving information speed and quality of broadband internet on maritime mobile satellite communications. In maritime mobile satellite communications, mechanically-controlled satellite tracing systems are used to compensate fluctuations of antenna orientation due to ship attitude caused by waves or winds of the sea. Orientations of antennas are limited so that transmitted electromagnetic waves from the antennas are not affected by structures on ships. Our research group studied about relation between separation angles and interference levels on other satellites by using a simple model or an actual ship model. The aim of this report is to develop a stochastic model of interferences on other satellites caused by diffracted waves by ship body. In this report, by employing a realistic ship model and directions of commercial satellites, a stochastic interference model is proposed. As a result, by using separation angles as a parameter, level of interference on other satellites can be estimated under the simulation conditions of this report.

    We have investigated the estimation of 3m and 10m test-range electromagnetic field by measuring the near-field of radiating electromagnetic wave from EUT on the lower frequency range below 1GHz. In this technical report, we have studied fundamentally the estimation of 3m test-range height pattern from the near-field, which the tangential electromagnetic waves on the surface of 1m square surrounding the dipole antenna placed on the ground plane are measured by using the electric and magnetic probe. The analysis frequency range is from 300MHz to 500MHz (the dipole antenna element is tuned 400MHz), and the polarization is fixed horizontal. On the other hand, the reference of 3m test-range height pattern used NEC2 (Numerical Electric Code) calculation one. The 3m test-range electric field strength is calculated according to Field Equivalence Principle through replacing the electromagnetic field vectors with the electromagnetic sources vectors. The ground plane is hypothesized the infinite conductive plane, and the image receiving point is formed against the real receiving point on the ground plane. The 3m test-range electric field strength is calculated by adding the each estimated electric field vector both the real and image receiving point. And then the 3m test-range height pattern is obtained by using the correction value with each height which is involved antenna factor, mutual coupling, etc. As the results, the estimation of 3m test-rang height pattern is in agreement with NEC2 calculation one. It is within ±2dB, except null points. The estimation results on the condition of ground plane demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

    It is known that reflected wave from an electromagnetic wave absorber on a wall of an anechoic chamber includes higher-mode diffracted waves. Our research group have studied about higher mode diffracted wave from pyramidal wave absorber by measurements and simulations. Meanwhile, an evaluation method for anechoic chambers is defined by the CISPR16-1-4 Ed.3 standard. In this method, several factors affect measured SVSWRs. These are frequency step, antenna directivity, boundary between wave absorber and floor, and so on. There are several reports about the measurement result of the anechoic chambers that the SVSWR values showed higher value at the specific frequencies. In these reports, the authors suspected that these high SVSWR values were caused by antenna directivity or characteristics of wave absorbers. However actual reason has not been found out. We supposed higher mode diffracted wave affect SVSWR measurements. In this report, we calculated higher mode diffracion coefficient from pyramidal wave absorber by FDTD. And we simulated a SVSWR measurement by using these higher mode coeffcients. In the results, we observed that SVSWRs went up higher sharply at specific frequencies as seen in actual measurements.

In this report, we calculated spacial distributions of reflected wave of the pyramidal wave absorber by FDTD method, and examined the effects of higher mode diffracted waves on SVSWR measurements.

    Our research group study measuring human dielectric constants in-vivo by waveguide penetration method. We have measured human fingers for 3.95-5.85 GHz and 750-1150 MHz frequency bands. However, it is not easy to interpret physical meanings of measured dielectric constants. In this report, we intend to use measured dielectric constants for electromagnetic wave simulations of human body. We performed 2-D electromagnetic wave simulation by FEM with measured dielectric constants of human finger for 750-1150 MHz and 3.95-5.85 GHz frequency bands. We modeled human finger as two simple shapes; homogeneous cylinder and simple human finger model derived from NICT's numerical human phantom. We calculated consumed electromagnetic power in the section of human finger models. As the result, the calculated consumed power shows good agreement with the calculated consumed power with dielectric constants in the literature for 1.0 and 3.95 GHz.

    As an approach to in-vivo measurement, we measured equivalent complex permittivity of fingers in 750-1150 MHz. To measure fingers by waveguide penetration method, we assembled waveguide system and calibrated it using four standard specimens whose complex permittivity were known. In our measurement of deionized water and glycerin phantom, the error of real part was 5 to 20%. We measured equivalent complex permittivity of forefinger, second finger and third finger for three persons. Assuming that the error is around 20%, measured complex permittivity was close to 2/3 of that of muscle.

    It is known that reflected wave from an electromagnetic wave absorber on a wall of an anechoic chamber includes higher-mode diffracted waves. However, there are few quantitative studies for evaluation of higher mode diffracted wave from pyramidal wave absorbers, especially for oblique incidence. Meanwhile, it is important to understand the distribution of electromagnetic field in anechoic chambers for electromagnetic wave measurements. For that purpose, studies for evaluation of electromagnetic field distribution in anechoic chambers has been performed for microwaves or millimeter waves. To design high-performance wave absorbers and anechoic chambers for higher frequency, investigations for higher-mode diffracted wave from pyramidal wave absorber are important. In this report, diffracted waves from pyramidal wave absorber that has periodic structure are numerically calculated. By applying two-dimensional Fourier transform for scattered wave from the absorber, higher mode diffraction coefficients are obtained and evaluated. By using the method described in this report, it is possible to calculate diffracted waves from pyramidal wave absorbers. Henceforth, by using the calculation method of this report, we will study about analyzing and designing of wave absorbers or anechoic chambers for higher frequencies.

    Artificial material or metamaterial based on circuit network has electrically-controllable feature of its characteristics. An application of it have already realized the EM-wave absorber whose absorbing characteristics can be dynamically varied. In this report, we manufactured a variably-matchable EM-wave absorber with variable capacitor diodes and measured its characteristics. First, we manufactured an EM-wave absorber panel composed of two sheets of square grids with varicap diodes, spacer, and a metal plate. Next, we fabricated a strip line for measuring the characteristics of the absorber panel. Time gating technique was used to pick up the desired reflected wave. We measured the characteristics of EM-wave absorber panel with varying the DC biases. As a result, we confirmed the variable matching characteristics of the EM-wave absorber panel in UHF frequency band spanning from 500MHz to 750MHz, though the reflectivity was as less effective as from -4dB to -6dB.

In this report, we investigated a simple-structured EM-wave absorber using planar circuit with variable capacitors. First, the impedance of the varicap was measured between 1MHz and 1GHz with varying the DC bias voltage in the forward bias condition as well as in the reverse bias condition. Next, the condition to realize EM-wave absorber was numerically searched for based on the measured impedance data, and a structure with two impedance grids was found as a candidate. Experiment was performed by constructing a coaxial EM-wave absorber model, and it showed that matching frequencies could be varied in wide frequency span within VHF band by adjusting the bias voltages.

    In vivo measurement of complex permittivity of human body tissue such as fingers, arms, and legs was studied by using waveguide penetration method as the method of measuring the complex permittivity of columnar material. Concretely, the external diameter of finger under test is regularized by a cylindrical applicator, and S-parameters are measured. The waveguide for 3.95-5.85GHz band was fabricated, and complex permittivity of the finger was measured. Equivalent complex permittivity of fingers are obtained by asuming the measurement part to be homogeneous in the calculation. The obtained results are compared with previously reported data.

    In this study, we focus on a wave absorber barrier which is formed by arranging cylindrical wave absorbers composed of magnetic loss material periodically and is located between ETC lanes. The optimization of this type of absorber barriers is examined by changing the thickness of magnetic loss material coating on the metallic bars and the pitch intervals between the bars. As a result, the change of the reflection loss and the shielding effect along with the change of each parameter is confirmed quantitatively through the analysis and the experiment. Especially, it was confirmed that the reflectivity is about -25 dB and the shielding effect is about -9 dB when the coating thickness is 1.5mm and the pitch intervals are 16mm.

    In our former report, reflection coefficients were in the range from -2.5dB to +1.5dB for 5GHz-8GHz, though reflection coefficients of the reference plate should be 0dB normally and by numerical simulation using physical optics approximation with consideration of measured curvature of steel plates, it was also observed that the reflection coefficients vary according to the orientation of the steel plate. To study the convergence of the integral calculation in physical optics, segmentation numbers of horn antenna aperture and steel plate were varied. For each conditions, the calculational results gave good agreement with experiments. Finally, to investigate the relation with the size of the curvature and errors, modification of curvature of the steel plates in simulation were performed.

    The electronic toll collection (ETC) and the dedicated short range communication (DSRC) in intelligent transport systems (ITS) are materialized. To improve electromagnetic environment of ITS beacon antenna, a wave absorber pavement material consists of a carbon fiber has been developed. However, the oblique incidence characteristic of the pavement material that has been developed for the ETC is not enough to use for ETC and DSRC. Therefore, this research group is developing the wave absorber pavement that mixed soft magnetic metal powder into asphalt. In this report, the relative complex permeability and permittivity of the pavement material were measured by the free space methods and the waveguide method. Then, the wave absorber pavement of the excellent oblique incidence characteristic was designed using the obtained material constant. The calculated result of oblique incidence characteristics showed good agreement with measured one in their tendency.

    The condition to reduce the measurement error is not quite clear for the reflectivity measurement of EM-wave absorbers by free space method. Therefore, we developed the numerical analysis method by combining the scattered field representation FDTD and the equivalence theorem. The dipole source is introduced to assume the spherical wave for the incident wave. A λ/4-type wave absorber model is introduced and the reflectivity error is numerically demonstrated in some cases. Besides, the qualitative discussion is given on the meaning of fulfilling the far-field condition and ensuring the first Fresnel zone.

    A free space method is frequently used to measure characteristics of the electromagnetic wave absorbers. In this report, influences of a curvature of the reference plate that affects the measured characteristics are studied. At first, reflection coefficients of 2mm-thick iron plate and 5mm-thick iron plate were measured under a lot of conditions (orientation of the plates, incident angle and incident polarization). As a result, reflection coefficients were in the range from -2.5dB to +1dB for 5GHz-8GHz, though reflection coefficients of the reference plate should be 0dB normally. Reflection coefficients were within ±0.2dB for rotational symmetrical pairs of the iron plate orientation. This result indicates the reproducibility of the experiment results and the reciprocity of the measurement system. Next, height distributions of iron plates were measured using laser distance meter. Roughness of approximately 2-3 mm was observed at the surface of both iron plates. By numerical simulation using physical optics approximation with consideration of measured curvature of iron plates, it was also observed that the reflection coefficients vary according to the orientation of the iron plate. The calculational standard deviations of the reflection coefficients were in good agreement with experiments within shift of 1dB. Finally, theoretical calculations for θ directional pattern of scattered wave were performed. Calculated patterns gave good agreement with measured ones.

    A method is proposed for the development of e-learning contents based on tele-lecture&#039;s video and presentation patterns of accredited graduate-level lectures between Tokyo Tech and AIT.     Internet connection of little junior high schools is pushed forward, and information dispatch from a school will be done. However, on the occasion of public release of information from a school to Internet, it is necessary for public release range to be considered. For example, it is not desirable for a teacher to send information such as a work of a child or schedule of school events to the whole Internet. Therefore, for example, there is the case that setting to limit a public release point to "education facilities of an area" becomes necessary. However, this is not easy in order to need knowledge about network. Therefore the software how the public release range could be easily appointed was developed when teachers of a school put information with a web server in this study. If this software is used, public release range is limited to education facilities and it can be limited to only a school in an area. When information is sent to Internet in the education scene of schools if this software is used, only range to hope for can show information. As a result the Education which utilized Internet more safely may be done.

    The use of the Internet in educational field has progressed. However, students may leak personal information. In this study, a Personal Information Detecting Software was developed. This software detects the personal information exist inside the sentences. This software is formed with two pages: the teachers'page and the students'page. The teachers'page consists of the function of editing the personal information database and the detection based on it, and students'one consists of the detection can be done. The database used in the detection been constructed with the help of SQL server. With the help of SQL server, it has been made possible to cope with the situation even when the personal information database already exists in the school. The use of this software makes students understand being dangerous to leak personal information, and advanced students'information morality.

    In this report, TV ghosts caused by the super highrise tower are theoretically analyzed at the viewpoint of DU ratio. The scattering wave from three type of the super high tower are calculated with taking account of distances between the transmission point, receive points and the tower. The effectiveness of the electromagnetic wave absorber is also considered when the absorber is put on the surface of the tower. As results in this report, the absorber of -10dB reflection coefficient is enough characteristics for cylindrical model to vanish the TV ghost problem caused by the reflected wave. For X-shaped model and the eight column model, the absorber which has -15dB characteristics is satisfying.

    In this report, the error of reflection coefficient calculated by uniform approximation method was studied. The reflection coefficient calculated by MMP method was used for reference. The applicable range of uniform approximation method was invesitigated with respect to the periodic length, frequency of incident wave and the dielectric constant of the absorber. A contour map of the error by uniform approximation method was created. Using this contour map, for example, frequency characteristics of the error produced by wedge-shaped absorber can be examined. Characteristics of a wave absorber designed using point-frequency-matching method were calculated by MMP and uniform approximation. As a result, when the periodic length of absorber was 20cm, both result agreed. But when the periodic length reached 30cm, reflection coefficient of the absorber exceeded permissible levels at high frequency.

    In this report, TV ghost Caused by hanger ropes of big suspension bridge is theoretically analyzed, and The improvement of D/U ratio is studied. Scattering wave from infinite metallic cylinder is calculated. The vertical scattering from the cylinder with 85 mm in diameter are good agreement with experiments, at 700MHz. Between 0 and 90 degrees from incident angle, the scattered wave is decreased by putting the cylindrical rubber ferrite wave absorber on the cylinder. About 120 degrees from incident angle, the scattered wave is decreased for 8 dB by putting the cylindrical dielectric material on the cylinder. The combination of dielectric material and rubber ferrite was found to be effective for suppressing around 120 degree from incident angle. These characteristics of that wave absorbers was calculated by MMP method. Between 75 and 120 degrees from incident wave, the scattered wave was decreased for 10 dB without increasing of scattering wave for other directions. As results, D/U ratio for 75 to 135 degrees was theoretically improved.

    Reflection characteristics of wide frequency range electromagnetic wave absorber with wedge structure has been calculated by MMP (Multiple Multipole Program). Equivalent permittivity has been conventionally used to calculate a wedge structure. This method is low-frequency approximation. In this report, the wedge structure is analysed both by MMP and FD-TD methods. The result is compared with that of two kinds of equivalent permittivity approximation i.e. the transmission mode approximation and the uniform approximation. The reflection coefficient calculated by FD-TD shows good agreement with that of MMP with frequency up to 1.5GHz. And the coefficient calculated by equivalent permittivity differs from those of MMP or FD-TD in the higher frequency range. The applicable condition of transmission mode approximation and uniform approximation is considered.

    Multi-layer wave absorber with wedge structure shows wide frequency characteristics.The wedge structure ha.9 to be calculated for designing multi-layer wave absorber.Equivalent permittivity has been used to calculate a wedge structure.However, periodic length of wedge structure was not considered ill an old uniform approximation.In this study,transmission mode approximation is proposed taking account ilito the periodic length of wedge structure.By this approximation,the equivalent permittivity is calculated by propagation constants which consideres periodic length of dielectric material and polarization.     Multi layer wave absobers were theoretically designed to obtain the better characteristics for oblique incident by the point frequency matching method. The results shows when polarization,incident angle and permissive reflection coefficient were given,wave absorbers for wide frequency range can be designed by the point frequency matching method.The contour maps of reflection coefficient for frequency and incident angle shows that charasteristics of designed absobers has good characteristics for oblique incidence.

    本研究は、アンテナの特性測定や電子機器、特に環境電磁工学におけるエミッション(電子機器からの不要な電磁ノイズの放射量)測定やイミュニティ(機器の電磁ノイズへの耐力)測定に活用が期待されるリバーブレーションチャンバー(共振箱、共鳴箱)の解析・設計手法に関するものである。
    本年度は研究初年度であるため、まず、研究期間を通じて利用することになる電磁界解析プログラムの開発に重点をおいて行った。特に導体で構成されているリバーブレーションチャンバーに対して有効なモーメント法のコード開発を行い、電磁界分布や電界均一性のシミュレーション計算が行えるようになった。また、誘電体や磁性体を含む構造の電磁界解析を行うシミュレーション手法として有限要素法の実装を行い、概ね電磁界の計算が行えるようになった。これらにより、リバーブレーションチャンバーの計算のための新たな理論的フレームワークである固有関数展開や、モード整合の考え方、さらには数値積分の精度向上などの研究要素を実装してゆくことが可能となった。シミュレーション計算については、現在、研究室のPC(Linux)上でIntel系のライブラリにより高速な計算が行えるよう開発をすすめてきたが、2024年4月に本学のスーパーコンピュータ(TSBUMAME)がバージョン4にアップグレードされることに伴い、大規模計算についても同じコードにて規模を拡大することで計算が可能となる。これらの研究成果の一部については2024年5月の国際会議EMC2024で発表予定となっている。

    This research aimed to investigate in-body electromagnetic wave propagation mainly for body area network tele communications and an application of it. As an application of in-body wave propagation, abdominal fat measurement, which is usually performed in annual health check, by microwave was chosen. On designing a system that use in-body wave propagation, characterization of in-body propagation channel is necessary. In this research, frequencies are geometry of the rectangular wave guide are investigated to perform efficient measurement of abdominal fat. As consider these with real human abdomen is difficult, numerical simulations are performed. As a result, an appropriate size and frequencies are found. In the simulations, layered cylindrical and elliptic model that emulates human abdomen are used for investigation. To estimate human abdomen from measured scattering coefficients, a neural network is used and successful estimations are used in certain accuracy.

    Body area network (BAN) has been considered for specific applications such as medicine, healthcare, firefighter, and military, as well as entertainment applications. This project aimed at solving the fundamental problems of analysis and modeling of dynamic behavior of BAN channel due to the human body motion, by improving the channel sounding systems, simulation approach, and practical modeling, as well as at identifying the highly reliable transmission schemes under the dynamic channels. Major outcomes of the project are summarized into the following four items: (1) Establishment of dynamic multipoint channel sounders, (2) establishment of dynamic BAN channel simulators, (3) antenna de-embedding from BAN channel, and (4) highly reliable transmission schemes for multisensor BAN.

    High-Definition (BD) video has wide view and high resolution, and it can suitably used in distance education. With HD video even without camera work, remote students can study as live students. The Center for Research and Development of Educational Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology transmits many lectures to domestic high schools and foreign universities. Actual distance lectures shot by expert cameramen using Standard-Definition (SD) video are also taken by HD video without any camera work. Those videos are viewed by subjects and we conducted questionnaire survey and eye tracking.
    The main results are;
    1. Expert cameramen properly shoot areas where students mainly see, but we demonstrated quantitatively that students tend to see outside of those areas. So it is practically impossible to satisfy all the students.
    2. Teaching Assistants cannot control a camera, but even without any camera work HD video can show wide area with enough resolution. So it can suitably used as distance education media.
    These results show that proper educational environment can be set up by preparing wide band network to transmit HD video with reduced labor cost for expert cameramen. In those cases, however, big screen should be prepared not to make characters on the board too small.

    衛星通信など、標準テレビ画像を送信する形態の遠隔講義で受講者から、「板書の文字が見づらい」という指摘がなされている。そこで、本研究では、板書中心の遠隔講義の黒板の見やすさを改善して、非同期型の遠隔講義に活用するために、講義室内で黒板を撮影した固定カメラの映像から、板書の内容(文字、図形)のみを抽出し、遠隔講義用に提供できる動画像に変換するシステムの開発を行った。本システムの撮影対象の黒板は、180cm×90cmのグリーンマーカーボード1枚である。黒板の中心から距離3.8mの地点にデジタルハイビジョンビデオカメラを設置し、黒板全体が収まるようにHDモード(解像度1280×720)で撮影した。後の画像処理を容易にするため、ビデオカメラの焦点距離、露光、ホワイトバランスの自動制御を解除し、撮影開始前に手動で適切な値に設定して撮影を行った。撮影した画像はIEEE1394(HDV)接続により画像処理用のPCに転送し、動画像処理および動画ファイルへの書き出しを行った。開発した画像処理システムを用いると、撮影した講義画像から、講義を行っている人物が消去され、黒板に書かれた文字のみを残すことができる。模擬的に行った講義を処理した結果、講師の体によって部分的に遮られた文字も、後の処理により表示されることが確認でき、概ね良好な板書画像を得られた。本システムでは、処理した画像を元の動画と同じ時間軸を持つムービーとして書き出す。これにより、非同期型の遠隔教育において、講師を撮影した動画やプレゼンテーション資料とともに板書のみの動画像を提供できると考えられる。

    We conducted international distance education via satellite. The delivered lectures are the ones taught in English as international graduate program. The receiving universities are Asian Institute of Technology and Ring Mongkut's Institute of Technology, both in Bangkok, Thailand. Pictures and voices were reliably transmitted in high quality via satellite, while internet TV conference system was used for questions and answers. The latter reduced the equipment cost at receiving side while maintaining the real time interaction between lecturer and students, which made the students to keep their high motivation. At least once in a term, the lecturers were sent to the receiving university to have a face-to-face lecture session, which also made students happy and feel they are well treated.
    We conducted a survey of school calendars, time tables, etc. of several universities in the world. It becomes clear that the educational systems do not always coincide each other, but it is also found that we may find almost common time slot if we carefully review the systems of two universities. Finding such intersection is not always possible nor an easy job. We may have to combine a special lecture of a intensive course. In fact we conducted an intensive course during summer vacation in Thailand, which attracted Thai students very much.
    International distance education inevitably have structural barrier, such as different educational systems, language barrier, physical distance, time difference, etc. We have shown these obstacles can be overcome by mutual understanding and mutual efforts, and conducted successful distance education. Students' survey also show positive responses. We believe that the key points of the success was the enthusiasm of both sides.

    The aim of this research involves a development and evaluation of information system using the Internet to support satellite education. The followings are the achievements of this research.
    (1)Development of a System to Deliver Slide Patterns of Lecturer and a Feedback System Using the Internet
    This system can deliver slide patterns shown by lecturer to a learners' web browser via a network or the Internet. A slide pattern is sent in sync with a lecture. By this function, learners can read slide patterns more clearly than a TV screen sent by satellite. In addition to this, this system can gather learners' real-time response for an enquete via the Internet. Furthermore, a lecturer is able to show a graph of result on a web browser.
    (2)Development of Notification System for Educational Information
    Users of this system can receive e-mail for notification of new educational information, which has relations with keywords that users have registered. This system has been released and used since September 2002 in the National Information Center for Educational Resources (NICER). Furthermore, this system have a function to detect whether an web page update is worth for users.
    (3)Development of an Information Retrieval System for Video-Based Learning Materials
    In this system, video material is time coded by matching with manually transcribed speech data. Using time coded speech data, an information retrieval system of video-based learning materials was developed. This system offers a full-text retrieval, and replays retrieved video clips in which query terms are contained.

    The purpose of this study is to compare performance among developed subject classification methods for educational Web re-sources.
    Three methods are vector space model (VSM) using degree of cosine similarity, vector distance on the self-organizing map (SOM) and three layer percptron (MLP). The document vectors were estimated by the term feature vectors which were extracted from the teaching guidelines based on the singular value decomposition method (SVD).
    The 403 teaching schemes were prepared as the test documents for the subject discrimination. The recall rate, precision rate and Fl measure as the classification performance measure, were compared across three methods. The recall rate using MLP is the highest for most subjects. The highest precision rate among the methods depend on subject. As a result, F1 measure as total performance index of most subjects are the highest for the method using MLP.
    According to the results, the subject classification methods for educational Web resources by using multi layer perceptron (MLP) is tested to achieye better performance. Ten classification methods and 403 test documents were prepared, then classification perfor-mance was compared among conditions by the F1 measure.
    As a result, it was examined effectiveness of singular value decomposition (SVD) to extract term feature from term-document matrix as description characteristics of the national teaching guideline. The highest performance of classification method was the use of MLP which trained with all term features extracting from SVD when document feature was estimated by terms appering unique subject.
    Also, it was suggested that there were significant differences of document feature components between correct and incorrect classified documents.

    本研究は、「星空の観測」をコンピュータとバーチャルリアリティを組み合わせることにより補助するシステムを開発および評価することを目的とした。
    本年度は、下記の2点について、前年度に開発をしたシステムをふまえた上で研究をすすめた。
    ●システムハードウェアの可般化、小型化
    ●電子星座盤システムへのナビゲーション機能の追加
    まず、昨年度に開発した電子星座盤システムを、ノート型コンピュータに移植して、外で持ち歩けるようなシステム構成にした。ハードウェアのシステム構成は下記の通りである。ノート型パソコン、ハンディ型のトラックボールコントローラシースルー型のヘッドマウンテッドディスプレイ、方位センサーからなり、パソコン部分は背中に背負うことにより、移動可能な方式にした。システムはバッテリーでの動作が可能であり、屋外でも使用できる。また、前年度自作した方位センサーを、市販のUSB接続の方位センサーに置き換えた。これにより、電子星座盤のコンピュータに負荷をかけることなく、使用者の視線の方向を取得できるようになった。次に、ノート型パソコン上で動作する電子星座盤に、学習者の利用上有効なナビゲーション機能を追加した。学習者は、目的の星座または惑星を画面上で指定する。すると、画面上に方向が矢印で表示され、簡単に目的の星座または惑星へ到達することができる。
    本システムの学習上の利用法を考察し、実用性についての検討を行うことが今後の課題となる。

    インターネットは社会的に大きな課題を与えることになり、私達が知らない間に情報通信ネットワーク犯罪に巻き込まれることにもなりかねない状況となっている。しかし、インターネットがあまりにも急速に進展したために、(1)法的にどのようなことが許されているのか、あるいは、(2)法的に許されても、どのようなことが他人に迷惑を掛ける恐れがあるのか、(3)より好ましいインターネットを利用するマナーとはどのようなことか、等について私達は習得していない。
    そこで、本研究では、情報通信ネットワーク社会で必要となる情報モラルと、情報に関連する著作権に関する学習サーバを構築することを目的として、今年度は、学校教育に関連する著作権について学習する教材を作成する計画であった。
    しかし、本年度新設された基盤研究(S)に申請した研究課題が採択されたため、わずかの期間で本研究は中止することになった。したがって、本研究の成果は、情報モラル教育教材の在り方と情報化に関連した著作権に関する種々のケースの調査について検討を開始した段階までを行い終了した。そのため、本研究における今年度の研究目標を十分に達成するまでには至らなかった。

    本研究では、小中学校の教師が、情報をインターネット上に発信する際に、公開先を簡単に指定し、情報発信における安全性を向上させるシステムを開発することを目的とした。
    現在、小中学校でインターネットへの情報発信時における指針がどのようになっているかの事前調査をふまえて、アクセス制御機能の実現のためのシステム設計および作成を行なった。
    その結果、学校の教師などの、専門家でない発信者が情報をインターネットに公開する際、その受信範囲を簡単に指定できるアクセス制御ソフトウェアを開発した。アクセス制御の仕組みが異なるタイプ1とタイプ2の2種類を開発した。タイプ1は、発信側ソフトウェアと受信用専用ブラウザからなる。タイプ1では、情報発信者が発信側ソフトウェアで受信範囲を設定すると、webサーバー上のファイルが暗号化される。これにより、受信が許可されたホスト/ドメインからの専用ブラウザでのアクセスのみが可能となる。タイプ2は、タイプ1と共通のユーザーインターフェースを持つ発信側ソフトウェアからなる。タイプ2では、情報発信者が受信範囲を設定すると、webサーバーのアクセス制御機能が適切に設定される。本論文のソフトウェアを使用すれば、webサーバー上のコンテンツの公開範囲を教育機関に限定したり、地域内の学校だけに限定したりすることができる。これにより、学校等からインターネットへ情報発信する際に、望む範囲にだけ情報を公開することができるシステムを実現した。

    The aim of this research is to efficient categorization of Internet information for school teaching. This thesis conducts categorizing websites to subjects-units, based on the analysis of term-frequencies in teaching textbooks.
    A term-document matrix is generated by extracting terms from unit-documents with morphological analysis and summarizing terms' frequency. Each element of this matrix is the frequency of every term in every class unit. Methods to extract feature vectors of terms and documents from the adjusted matrix using SVD (Singular Value Decomposition), and to composite feature vectors of arbitrary documents from the terms' vectors are established. A suitable class-unit for the document is estimated based on the similarity of these feature vectors.
    A test-collection including over 120 websites, each of which has an answer made by high-school teachers, was used for the evaluation. Parameters and variables in the procedures, such as, which word classes to use, how to adjust the term-document matrix, the dimension size of feature vectors, etc. were optimized based on this evaluation. Results were given as a list of unit-titles in descending order of similarity between the site's feature vector and the units' vectors.
    To illustrate the structure of websites, SOM (Self Organizing Map), which is a kind of a non-supervised neural network learning, is used. As a result, the textbook concept space was visualized, and mapping every page that constructs an arbitrary site showed how the site-pages were distributed in this space. The validity of this map is also discussed and guidelines in reading these maps are shown.
    In conclusion, a document classification specialized to educational information was done. Methods to extract feature vectors from descriptions in textbooks and to composite vectors of arbitrary documents are established. Matching class-units of the document is acquired by comparing similarities between the feature vectors. Visualization of categorizing results and website-structures are also done using SOM.It is shown that using these methods, categorization and visualization of websites or documents is feasible.

    Eye-movements, blinking and pupil size respond to visual or audio stimulus to require information processing. It is well known pupil size increase with task difficulty. We investigated whether their changes are correlated and can be indices of mental activity. First experiment, audio instruction was presented while gazing and following a marked point which moved periodically in the central point and a point on concentric circle. Audio instructions asked to recall memorized word, cap verses or oral calculation. Second experiment, subjects took part in driving simulation game with same audio tasks. Pupil size, blinking and eye-movements were observed in both experiments.
    In the first experiment, the averaged pupil sizes and blinking rate significantly increased with visual angle of gazing and following task, and audio instructions. The gazing time and saccadic responses for the target decreased in response to audio instructions. In the second experiment, pupil sizes and blinking also significantly increased in response to audio instructions. The gazing time and saccadic responses also significantly decreased in response to audio instructions.
    From these results, it suggested eye movement model for evaluating mental activity, which was based on correlations between blinking time and gazing time, and between blinking time and saccade occurrence time. For verifying this model, the correlations among them were examined under some eye movement conditions. This verification provided the evidence that pupil, blinking and eye-movement responses can be indices of mental activity.

    A lot of information is offered to Internet, and there is much information to be useful for learning. However, there are many cases that are not readable to a child student so that it is had much work a kanji.
    So, in this study, we developed a system to convert kanji notation of Internet into according to learning automatically. By this study, a child student comes to understand a kanji, but a demand has a system to convert into sentence expression to be suited for a child automatically from teachers of the school spot.
    It was based on "the face for Chinese- and Japanese-style readings of Chinese characters" that "school year other kanji kana allotment list" and the Agency for Cultural Affairs which the development Education Ministry of the kanji notation automatic notation conversion function which met a school year established and made "a school year other kanji kana conversion dictionary."
    These ten phases of dictionary (general from a kindergarten) is divided into three kinds (a kanji unit, a compound word unit, school year writing together use) according to a conversion method.
    I made a database of the Web page, which was useful for development learning of learning information offering system, and then the system, which I could search, was developed. By this system, even primary schoolchildrern could seem to utilize it, and the search item did it with "school year" and two items of "a subject." In addition, the kanji notation, which I put together in a level and hope of a learning person, can because this system fuses with a kanji kana automatic conversion system according to a school year.
    In a development book study of a no conversion function and a harmful information filtering function, in the Web site that did not expect conversion (site of a kanji, for example), the Web site where the function that I did not convert into and a harmful term were used for developed the function that I did not display.
    As a result evaluation that this system was effective for practical use in a class was provided. This system is utilized in a lot of schools currently in addition to above.

    In this study, a basis of technique to categorize was established by contents of Web site sponsored with Internet by a school year and a subject, relation with a subject unit.
    By this technique, we resolve a description every each unit of a textbook into a term by morpheme analysis and demand an element and a line to do by appearance frequency in each unit of each term, and it is technique extracted by a characteristic vector of a term/a unit with it by the value resolution peculiar.
    A unit to fall under was estimated by it being compared resemblance degree with a characteristic vector of each unit demanded by a textbook with a demanded vector by arbitrary information to judge Web site contents to be it.
    And it was made what we could divide into a category to a unit in a subject clear if a term extracted from one part of a textbook of existing social studies was used.
    We understood that it was achieved high original distinction rate as a result that a post teacher evaluated the result.
    And it is the plan that other, school year distinction, a subject input contents of all the textbooks of the every company which is to be published during this year into according to a unit, it is to be extracted a characteristic vector by this technique about a unit of each in order to let this result develop in this study.
    And we evaluate technique to divide into a category by it, and it is a plan to examine of practical use.
