    The nonlinear liquid motion in a partially filled rectangular tank with a core barrel is investigated. Basic equations are derived by employing the variational principle. Unlike in case of a rectangular tank without a core barrel, it is difficult to obtain analytically the modes of vibration and the natural frequencies of the liquid motion in a rectangular tank with a core barrel. Therefore, the modes of vibration and the natural frequencies are obtained by using the finite elements method. It was shown by the previous research on the nonlinear liquid motion in a rectangular tank that the internal resonance may occur at the water depth where the natural frequency of the second mode accords with twice the natural frequency of the first mode. In case of a rectangular tank with a core barrel, the water depth satisfying this condition was found by the relations between water depth and the natural frequency. An experiment was carried out at this water depth using the model tank. The occurrence of the internal resonance was confirmed by the experimental results. The effects of radius and location of a core barrel on the condition of the internal resonance was discussed. It is shown that the water depth where the internal resonance occurs becomes higher as the radius of a core barrel becomes larger or that location becomes closer to the center of the tank.

    The present study investigates the effect of multiple dynamic absorbers on both forced chatter and regenerative chatter. The stability lobe of regenerative chatter is widely employed to find the axial depth of cut and the spindle speed in which regenerative chatter doesn't occur. However, the cutting force variation by the intermittent cutting with an end milling tool causes the forced chatter. The excitation frequency is determined by the spindle rotation frequency and the number of teeth. When the integral multiple of the excitation frequency approaches to the natural frequency of the tool and spindle system, resonance can be caused by the forced chatter. It is known that the resonance occurs in the spindle speed resistant to regenerative chatter. Therefore, it is important to take a countermeasure against not just the regenerative chatter but also the resonance caused by the forced chatter. In the present study, the cutting conditions which can lead to the regenerative chatter and the resonance are investigated by the direct numerical integration method. It is shown that an improvement in the regenerative chatter-free axial depth of cut can be obtained using the absorbers. Furthermore it is made clear that the absorbers have a significant suppression effect on not only the regenerative chatter but also the forced chatter.

    It is known that, under appropriate conditions, the amplitude of vibration of some blades in the mistuned bladed disk system become large compared to what would be predicted by an analysis of the perfectly tuned system. In this paper, the rms responses of the mistuned bladed disk system subjected to random excitation with the spatial decorrelation and correlations are investigated. The effect of the correlation of the random excitation on the rms response is discussed. It is shown that the rms response of the mistuned system subjected to the spatially-uncorrelated random excitation is almost the same as that of the tuned system. In the case the random excitation is spatially-correlated, it is noted that the rms responses of the mistuned system is much larger than those of the tuned system and that the mistuning configurations effect on the rms responses. With the spatial correlation, it is also noted that the particular mode shapes play an important role in the rms response.

    This paper deals analytically and experimentally with the design of a dynamic absorber to quench squeal generated in car disc brakes. Firstly, the design of the dynamic absorber was investigated to quench the frictional vibration due to Coulomb friction of a two-degree-of-freedom block system simplifying disc brakes. The agreement between the analytical and experimental results on the optimal design of the dynamic absorber was confirmed. Next, the optimal design was applied to the disc brake. It was found by the analysis and experiments that the natural frequency of the dynamic absorber should be tuned near the squeal frequency and the damping of the dynamic absorber was not needed to quench squeal. Hence, the optimum design of the dynamic absorber to quench self-excited vibration caused by the asymmetry of stiffness matrix of the system was quite different from that of the forced vibrations.

    An eddy current testing (ECT) probe is used for a diagnosis of a helical heating tube installed in a fast breeder reactor, and a vibration of ECT probe makes the diagnosis difficult. In our previous report, we proposed an analytical model of the ECT probe incorporating with a frictional force and confirmed that the vibration was caused by Coulomb friction. In this paper, it is shown that numerical simulations utilizing the analytical model agree with various experimental results of the vibration of ECT probe, so that the reliability of the analytical model and the numerical simulation is increased. It follows that a preceding estimation of the vibration is available by the numerical simulation. Based on a behavior of the entire probe, which is obtained by the numerical simulation, we discuss a countermeasure to suppress the probe vibration. The validity of countermeasure is demonstrated through the numerical simulations.

    This paper deals with sensor signal noise of eddy current testing (ECT) probe generated in helical heating tube in the fast breeder reactor MONJU. ECT probe is used for inspection of thickness of heating tube. The heating tube is composed of helical tube and straight tube because of advantage of thermal efficiency and compact size. However, the vibration of probe having no experience in usual straight heating tubes is generated. The vibration causes the noise and the decrease of sensor sensitivity of ECT probe. The experiment was performed by using a mock-up, and the noise characteristics of ECT sensor signal mounted in ECT probe were examined. The experimental result showed that the sensor signal noise in inserting ECT probe was higher than that in return process and the vibration in insert process had a certain outstanding frequency. It was effective for the countermeasure of sensor signal noise to attach the long and flexible guide probe to the top of ECT probe.

    This paper deals with the occurrence mechanism of the squeal and chatter phenomena generated in a bicycle disk brake and their countermeasures. From the results by bench test apparatus, it was made clear that the squeal is in-plane vibration in the direction of rotor surface with frequency 1 kHz caused by the frictional characteristics with negative slope with respect to the relative velocity generated in the vibration system including brake components and spokes, and the chatter is another frictional vibration with frequency 500 Hz in which the squeal occurring in the in-plane direction of rotor and the out-of-plane vibration of rotor due to Coulomb friction are superimposed through the internal resonance relation caused by temperature increase of rotor during braking. The measures for squeal and chatter were taken on spokes and hub, and the validity was confirmed by using bench test apparatus.

    This paper deals experimentally with the squeal and chatter phenomena generated in mountain bike disk brakes. First, the authors performed the traveling test using actual bicycle on downhill road in a mountain. As the results, there are two kinds of frictional self-excited vibrations in the bicycle disk brakes called by squeal with frequency of 1 kHz and by chatter with frequency of 500 Hz. In order to regenerate the squeal and the chatter, a bench test apparatus by actual bicycle was set up and their characteristics were experimentally examined. By using the bench test apparatus, it was made clear that their frequencies were independent of temperature of pad and rotating speed of rotor, and the chatter was generated in a certain limited region of high temperature though the squeal occurred in arbitrary temperature region of pad.

    In recent years, the vibration system which has negative mass characteristics, called meta-material, attracts attention. This system consists of two single-degree-of-freedom system. This two-degree-of-freedom system can be represented to an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom system. In case of the subsystem without a damping, the effective mass of this equivalent system has the negative mass characteristics. When the damping of the system is taken into consideration, the effects of the damping on these negative mass characteristics are not clarified. The effects of damping upon characteristic of vibration system with negative effective mass are investigated. The condition of the negative mass characteristics is derived with a damped subsystem. The effects of the damping of subsystem on the negative mass characteristics are discussed.

    The three-dimensional nonlinear characteristics of multi-surface liquid motion in a rectangular tank are investigated. The rectangular tank is divided into two parts by the baffle, which is perpendicular to the bottom of the tank and does not reach the bottom. The liquid oscillation subject to the horizontal excitation parallel to the baffle is focused on. The nonlinear ordinary differential equation governing the liquid oscillation are derived by using the Galerkin method. The admissible functions are assumed to combinations of the modal functions. The modal functions are obtained by the boundary element method. It is pointed that the two modes, one of which oscillates in phase on both sides of the baffle and another oscillates in anti-phase, appear. The nonlinear coupling characteristics of those two dominant modes are discussed. It is noted that the mode, which does not directly excited by the excitation, is parametrically excited by the directly excited mode and that the three-dimensional liquid surface oscillation occurs as a result of parametric resonance. Experiments were conducted by using a model tank. The occurrence of three-dimensional liquid surface oscillation is confirmed both in analytical and experimental results. It is shown that, when the three-dimensional liquid surface oscillation occurs, the amplitude of liquid oscillation is lager than that when it does not occur. The three-dimensional nonlinear analysis considering with the connection of liquid parts is important for estimating the sloshing phenomena of multi-surface liquid.

    Regenerative chatter is one of the self-excited vibration occurred in machining process, which results in a poor surface finish of the workpiece, wear of a cutting tool and reduced product quality. Although there were many countermeasures against the regenerative chatter in end-milling process, most of them were focused on vibration of the tool and the spindle system. During the end milling process of the thin walled workpiece like turbine blades, vibration can occur easily. It is difficult to control regenerative chatter occurring in the workpiece compared with regenerative chatter occurring in the tool because of the constraint on the damper mounting position. In this paper, the analytical and experimental investigations are performed to study the effect of workpiece excitation on chatter occurring in the low rigidity workpiece. End milling operations for the workpiece supported by the leaf springs are carried out using a machining center. The workpiece is excited by an exciter in the feed direction of tool during end milling operations. The equations of motion of the low rigidity workpiece model which is modelled as a lumped mass system with orthogonal degrees of freedom in the feed and normal directions are derived. The spindle speed and the excitation amplitudes to effectively suppress regenerative chatter are investigated by the time domain analysis and the cutting test. The numerical analysis and the experiments reveal that regenerative chatter can be suppressed at the spindle speed corresponding to the local minimum in the stability lobes of regenerative chatter, and that it is necessary to increase the excitation amplitude in order to effectively suppress regenerative chatter.

    Brake squeal is an important issue that makes car drivers uncomfortable and has caused the automotive industry to significant annually warranty cost. The present work investigates the effect of the radial contact area between pad and disk on brake squeals in automotive disk brake. Experimental apparatus using in brake test is composed of actual brake unit with floating type caliper. The radial contact area between disk and pad is changed by using pad with inner circumference cut or outer circumference cut. Using inner and outer pad without cut, incident rate of squeal related to 2nd in-plane mode of disk is high. Squeal incident rate using both inner and outer pad with inner or outer circumference cut is more reduced than that using only inner pad with inner or outer circumference cut and outer pad without cut. Using inner and outer pad with inner circumference cut, though incident rate of squeal related to 2nd in-plane mode of disk is not reduced, some squeals are controlled. Using inner and outer pad with outer circumference cut, most of squeal is controlled. When the contact area between pad and disk is changed, we consider the effect of brake torque, pressure distribution between disk and pad, and accelerance of disk on squeal.

    The present study investigates the effect of workpiece excitation on regenerative chatter of workpiece experimentally and analytically. Using a machining center, up-cut milling tests are performed to study the regenerative chatter suppression effect when the low rigidity workpiece supported by the leaf springs is excited by the exciter. The excitation direction of workpiece is perpendicular to the machine surface and parallel to the feed direction. It is confirmed experimentally that the vibration amplitude of the workpiece in regenerative chatter is greatly reduced when the workpiece is excited at the resonance frequency of workpiece in the feed direction. Next, the equations of motion of the low rigidity workpiece model which is modelled as a lumped mass system with orthogonal degrees of freedom in the feed and normal directions are derived. The excitation frequencies and excitation amplitudes for effectively suppressing the vibration amplitude of the workpiece in regenerative chatter are investigated by the direct numerical integration method. The analytical results are confirmed to agree qualitatively with the experimental results. Furthermore, the analytical results reveal that the vibration amplitude of the workpiece in regenerative chatter is greatly reduced when the sum of the excitation frequency and the integral multiple of cutting edge passage frequency is equal to the natural frequency of workpiece in the feed direction.

    The nonlinear liquid motion in a partially filled rectangular tank with a core barrel is investigated. Basic equations are derived by employing the variational principle. Unlike in case of a rectangular tank without a core barrel, it is difficult to obtain analytically the modes of vibration and the natural frequencies of the liquid motion in a rectangular tank with a core barrel. Therefore, the modes of vibration and the natural frequencies are obtained by using the finite elements method. It was shown by the previous research on the nonlinear liquid motion in a rectangular tank that the internal resonance may occur at the water depth where the natural frequency of the second mode accords with twice the natural frequency of the first mode. In case of a rectangular tank with a core barrel, the water depth satisfying this condition was found by the relations between water depth and the natural frequency. An experiment was carried out at this water depth using the model tank. The occurrence of the internal resonance was confirmed by the experimental results. The effects of radius and location of a core barrel on the condition of the internal resonance was discussed. It is shown that the water depth where the internal resonance occurs becomes higher as the radius of a core barrel becomes larger or that location becomes closer to the center of the tank.

    In this paper, experimental and analytical investigations are performed to study the design method of multiple dynamic absorbers for effectively suppressing chatter generated in the end milling operations. The triple and sixfold absorbers are attached to a rotating collet holder. Using a machining center, up-cut milling tests are performed to study the effect of the absorbers on chatter experimentally. The critical axial depth of cut at the onset of chatter with and without the absorbers is compared. A dynamic milling model with the absorbers is modelled as a lumped mass system with orthogonal degrees of freedom in the feed and normal directions. Stability of the milling process is investigated by performing a complex eigenvalue analysis. It is confirmed experimentally that an improvement in the chatter-free axial depth of cut can be obtained using the sixfold dynamic absorbers. The analytical results reveal the optimal natural frequency and damping ratio of the absorbers in order to increase the chatter free axial depth of cut.

    It is known that, under appropriate conditions, the amplitude of vibration of some blades in the mistuned bladed disk system become large compared to what would be predicted by an analysis of a perfectly tuned system. In this paper, the rms responses of the mistuned bladed disk system subjected to deterministic excitation and random excitation with the spatial correlations are investigated. Because the mistune arrangement effects the rms response of the mistuned system, the rms response of all mistune arrangements are calculated in case that number of mistuned blades is 8. In the case of the large and small rms response, the effect of the ratio of amplitude of the deterministic and the random excitation on the averaged wave number components of the mistuning arrangements is discussed. It is shown that the averaged wave number components when both the deterministic and the random excitations act simultaneously differs from that in the case that both act individually. It is also noted that those averaged wave number components of the mistuning arrangement do not change linearly to the ratio of amplitude of the deterministic and random excitation.

    Three-dimensional nonlinear liquid motion in a partially filled rectangular tank supported by pendulum is investigated. In this analysis, the nonlinearities of the liquid surface oscillation and pendulum motion are considered. Basic equations of liquid elevation and pendulum angle are derived by employing the variational principle. The nonlinear differential equations are derived by applying Galerkin's method to the basic equations. The characteristic of the nonlinear coupled oscillation is discussed. The coupled natural frequency is obtained by linearizing the derived equations. By the coupled natural frequency analysis, it is showed that, when the aspect ratio of the tank is a little less than integer, the three-dimensional liquid oscillation can occur. It is confirmed that the three-dimensional liquid oscillation occurred in numerical simulation and experimental results. A fairly good agreement is found between both results. It is shown that the three-dimensional nonlinear liquid motion plays an important role of liquid oscillation in a rectangular container supported by pendulum.

    In the present study, the critical axial depth of cut at the onset of chatter in the end milling operation determined by Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC) was evaluated. AIC was applied to the time history of tool vibration displacement in order to determine the critical axial depth of cut. The axial depth of cut that makes the value of AIC minimum was defined as the critical axial depth of cut. Comparing with the critical axial depth of cut obtained using the presented AIC method and that by detecting the emergence of the amplitude of the chatter frequency, there are fairly good agreements in both results.

    In this paper, the effect of the dynamic absorbers on regenerative chatter generated in the end milling operations is qualitatively evaluated by the stability analysis for the simple analytical milling model and the cutting test with the tool holder attached the dynamic absorbers.     This work deals analytically and experimentally with the stability chart of the regenerative chatter vibration in end milling process. Dynamic milling model was considered to have two orthogonal degrees of freedom. By solving the eigenvalue problem of this model, we investigate stability of this dynamic milling system. As a result the agreement between the analytical and experimental results on the stability chart in up cut milling and down cut milling was confirmed.     This paper deals with the analytical reproduction of the squeal phenomena generated in a certain type of bicycle disc brake unit. It was made clear that the squeal was in-plane vibration in the direction of a disc surface with frequency about 1000Hz caused by frictional characteristics with negative slope with respect to the relative velocity according to the numerical analysis of the both in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations, and was generated in the vibration system including the brake unit and spokes. The analytical model of the bicycle disc brake system was set up. The resulting frequency of the squeal and the unstable vibration modes of spokes and rotor agreed well with the experimental ones.

    This work deals analytically with the optimal design of dynamic absorber for quenching squeal generated in car disk brakes. In previous our work, the analytical model of car disk brake squeal was developed. In this paper, the dynamic absorber is attached to this model, and the controlling effect of squeal of the dynamic absorber is presented. From analytical results, optimal parameter of damping ratio, the natural frequency, and the effect of mass ratio of dynamic absorber is established. Moreover, the relationship between the attachment position of dynamic absorber and the effect of that is investigated.

    This paper deals with the occurrence mechanism of the squeal phenomena generated in a new type of a bicycle disk brake unit and its countermeasure experimentally and analytically. It was made clear that the squeal was in-plane vibration in the direction of a disk surface with frequency 650 Hz caused by frictional characteristics with negative slope with respect to the relative velocity, and was generated in the vibration system including the brake unit and spokes, in the same manner of an old type of disk brake unit. The simple analytical model of the bicycle disk brake system was set up. Some features of the squeal phenomena were made clear analytically and it was confirmed that the analytical results agreed well with the experimental ones.

    The aim of this work is producing the disc brake that the squeal is not generated fundamentally. A design manual of the disc brake considering support methods and support positions of caliper was proposed. On the other hand, a dynamic absorber was attached to a basic self-excited vibration system caused by Coulomb's friction, and optimal parameters of dynamic absorber which controls the squeal were studied analytically. A dynamic absorber was attached to hub in order to control squeal, and its validity was confirmed by using a bench apparatus. From experimental and analytical results, optimal parameter of damping ratio, the natural frequency, and the effect of mass ratio of dynamic absorber is established.

    Analyzing the occurrence mechanism of the squeal phenomena in Bicycle Disk Brakes, it became cleared that a rotor vibrates in the direction of in-plane under in squeal, and squeal phenomena are self-excited vibration caused by frictional characteristics with negative slope with respect to the relative velocity generated in the vibration system. This paper deals experimentally with the difference of squeal phenomena between in the initial model and in the new model. This system is easy to generate the squeal because there is a certain internal resonance relationship between the out-of-plane and in-plane coupled natural frequencies.

    When verifying the measure against control of the squeal in a car disk brake, the manufacturers have investigated using the actual car and using the dynamo which took out only the brake unit. In this paper, in addition to two experiment dynamos installed a brake unit by the different method, it experiments in squeal using the actual car, and these common features and differences are clarified. Moreover, the measure against control of the squeal common to these is verified experimentally, and the validity is shown by proposing the general measure against control of the squeal in a different vibration characteristic.

    本研究課題は,顎変形症治療のための口腔外科手術において,医師が回転切削器具を用いて顎骨の骨切り手術を行う際,切削工具が皮質骨層(硬質層)から海綿骨(軟質層)に到達する直前でハンドピースを持つ手に感じる感覚の変化を可視化し,安全に骨切り手術を行える手術支援システムを構築することを目的とする.2021年度は,模擬骨被削材による手術シミュレーション用の実験装置を構築し,模擬骨被削材の切削試験を行い,海綿骨到達前後の振動解析を行った.実験に使用した模擬骨被削材は,皮質骨と海綿骨にそれぞれ被削性が近い樹脂材料を使用して製作した.模擬皮質骨プレートと模擬海綿骨の間にアルミ箔製の電極を挟み,電極に一定電圧回路を接続して模擬皮質骨を切削し,模擬海綿骨に到達したとき電極が切断されると電圧が0Vになるとき海綿骨到達と判定した.また,手元の感覚の変化を感じ海綿骨到達と判断したときに手元のボタンを押して,電極切断と比較して判定精度を評価するシステムを構築した.模擬骨を切削するハンドピースは実際に手術で使用するハンドピースと切削バーを使用し,ハンドピースに3軸加速度計を取り付けて,手元の振動加速度を測定するとともに,模擬骨被削材を切削動力計に固定して3方向の切削力を測定した.また,切削音を精密騒音計で測定した.手術熟練医師(研究分担者)と研修医に協力を得て切削実験を行った.測定した時系列データを周波数分析した結果,熟練医師のハンドピースの振動加速度データについて,海綿骨到達前後に回転周波数成分の整数倍成分近傍のスペクトル密度が増加することを確認した.この結果をもとに,回転周波数成分の整数倍成分近傍のスペクトル密度の時系列変化を計算した結果,手元の感覚の変化とスペクトル密度の増加の傾向に非常に良い相関を確認し,このスペクトル密度の変化が海綿骨到達判定指標の1つになることを明らかにした.

    The application of a tuned mass damper is one of the countermeasures against chatter in end milling process of a low rigidity workpiece. This study derives the optimal design parameters of the tuned mass damper which maximizes the critical depth of cut at onset of chatter at each spindle speed. Compared with the conventional optimal design method of tuned mass dampers for chatter, it is clarified that the critical depth of cut can be greatly improved in the high spindle speed range in case of the application of the tuned mass damper tuned to the optimal parameters derived in the proposed method. Furthermore, the chatter suppression effect can be obtained even when the damping ratio of the tuned mass damper is smaller than the optimum damping ratio derived by the conventional tuned mass damper optimum design method.

    The present study is to propose a countermeasure against regenerative chatter that causes various problems such as reduction of machining accuracy, tool wear and breakage during milling process. We consider that a periodic time delay fluctuation by exciting a workpiece in tangential direction of a cutting edge in synchronization with the tool rotation can control regenerative chatter. First, the excitation condition with a high regenerative chatter suppression effect was derived by performing the stability analysis of the delay oscillator with time periodic delay. Next, the active workpiece holder to achieve a time-delayed fluctuation cutting by varying the tangential velocity of the cutting edge was developed. And then, the suppression effect of regenerative chatter was confirmed by performing the cutting test using the developed the active workpiece holder.

    In the present study, the analytical and experimental investigations are performed to study the effect of workpiece excitation on workpiece chatter in end milling operation. The workpiece is supported by the low rigidity jig and is excited by an exciter in the feed direction of tool. First, the equations of motion of the low rigidity workpiece model which is modeled as a lumped mass system with orthogonal degrees of freedom in the feed and normal directions are derived. The excitation frequencies and excitation amplitudes to effectively reduce workpiece chatter are investigated by the direct numerical integration method. Furthermore, the numerical analysis and the experiments reveal that the workpiece chatter vibration is greatly reduced when the excitation frequency is equal to the natural frequency of workpiece in the feed direction.

    This work deals with the development of the analytical method in order to predict the stability chart of regenerative chatter in spite of the change of the mechanical transfer characteristics, the cutting condition and the cutting stiffness. The stability chart of regenerative chatter was predicted by the proposed analytical method with the hybrid model composed of the tool and spindle system modeled by continuum model and the workpiece model. It was confirmed that the stability chart of regenerative chatter predicted by the eigenvalue analysis coincided well with the experimental result.
