    The laser wettability modification method for a silica surface was applied to the liquid batch-arrangement process. The droplets on the contact angle boundary produced by the modification moved to the more hydrophilic modified area because of the driving force of the surface energy hysteresis. Based on this phenomenon, a substrate with an array of 1-mm square modified areas was dip-coated with different concentrations of glycerin solution to align the droplets in batches. The experimental and analytical results showed that when the amount of liquid adhering to the hydrophilic area was small, the droplet shape became round owing to surface tension, and the reproduction of the modified rectangular shape was difficult. To increase the amount of the adhered liquid, the arrangement was conducted under conditions that increased the capillary number, such as high viscosity and high pull-out speed. The reproducibility of the intended shape was found to increase with an increase in the capillary number. Although the spatial resolution of the arrangement was limited by the laser spot size, it was demonstrated that the proposed method could align droplets onto a silica surface in a batch with the intended geometry.

    Abstract As mold material for glass lens with microstructures, it requires not only excellent mechanical properties, high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, but also satisfying machinability Using combinatorial arc plasma deposition, Ni-Nb-Ti thin film libraries were deposited for evaluations of some properties, such as, crystallization temperature, thermal stabilities, hardness, oxidation resistance and so on When Ni within 40-58 at %, Nb within 24-46 at %, Ti within 5-20 at %, the thin film exhibited excellent thermal stability However, for machinability, the conventional method can measure only one composition at each time which is both time-consuming and expensive Therefore, a novel combinatorial deposition and evaluation method for machinability are proposed In those methods, thin film samples with concentrically grading composition are sputter - deposited using combination targets The sample has grading compositions of which in the center Ti content is rich and becomes gradually decreasing from center to edge This means that each position on the surface of sample represents a particular composition Then this sample will be cut at different positions After that, cutting depth and the roughness of cutting surfaces will be measured It is clearly to see this new method is more efficient than conventional method, which is able to measure a lot of compositions' machinability at one time with one sample

    Monitoring the wear life of the tribological amorphous carbon (a-C) film through luminescent spectroscopy is proposed. The monitoring can be achieved by detecting the degree of luminescence from the layer that is located under a-C film. Hence, the structure of the coating consists of substrate/luminescent sensing layer/a-C layer. In this study, fabrication and characterisation of such coating structure are presented. Firstly, the coating structure, in which the luminescent sensing layer is ZnS:Mn thin films, was fabricated. The thin films were deposited by R.F. magnetron sputtering in argon plasma and post-annealing at 700°C. Subsequently, a-C films were deposited onto the luminescent layer by R.F. magnetron sputtering. The structures of the coatings as well as luminescent properties were analysed. However, due to the requirement of high temperature annealing to enhance the luminescent properties of ZnS:Mn thin film, silica coatings containing CdSe/ZnS quantum dot powder prepared from polysilazane precursor solution were also fabricated for another candidate for luminescent layer. The process is found to be simpler and requires significantly lower temperature annealing process.

    This study focuses on the surface modification of SiC films by heat treatment using induction heating and laser irradiation. As the result of structural analysis, D band and G band appeared in Raman spectra of heat-treated SiC films, which did not appear in that of untreated SiC films, thus carbon layers were formed by heat treatment. The result of the nanoindentation hardness test indicated that the hardness of carbon layers was about 1.5 times as high as that of untreated SiC films. As the result of the friction test, the friction coefficient of heat-treated SiC films was lower than that of untreated SiC films, which indicated that carbon layers had self-lubrication and decreased the friction.

    レーザによりぬれ性を局所表面改質した石英基板表面における液体挙動を明らかにすることを目的に研究を行った.まず1枚の基板上に幅1mmの親水部を形成し,液滴を滴下したところ,自発的に改質部のみをぬれ広がることを確認した.次に1mm幅の親水部を形成した2枚の基板を対向させ,直線や折線のパターンに対して基板間隔と流量をパラメータとして実験を行い,基板間に内部構造を有する2.5次元的なパターン形成の可能性を示した.

    切削工具に利用される超硬合金を対象に,短パルスレーザを用いたレーザピーニング効果による耐摩耗性付与と,表面形状・性状創製による耐欠損性付与を両立する新規レーザ表面加工法を提案,検討した.長焦点レンズを用い,照射角,出力,走査回数を変化させて水中でレーザ照射を実施し,表面粗さ,溶融層深さ,硬さを評価した.その結果,硬さ向上と性状創製を両立した表面加工ができることを確認した.

    ナノ粒子の機械的性質を評価するため,先端曲率半径150nmのバーコビッチ圧子と,1μmのコニカル圧子を用いた走査型プローブ顕微鏡(SPM)複合型ナノインデンテーション装置による圧縮破壊試験法を試みた.シリカ粒子の圧縮試験において,バーコビッチ圧子を用いた場合は破壊点に近付くにつれて荷重-変位線図の傾きが小さくなる傾向を確認し,その原因が圧子先端半径および形状に由来することを明らかにした.

    超硬合金の表面の硬度を向上させるため, レーザピーニングによる表面改質を行った. 試料としてCo含有率10wt%, 鏡面仕上げを施したものを用いた. レーザはパルスNd:YAGレーザの第二高調波を使用し, 繰返し周波数10Hz, パルス幅9nsで改質を行った. 5~150mJのレーザ出力で改質し, 表面の照射痕を研磨した後, マイクロビッカース硬さ試験により硬さを測定した. その結果, 100mJで改質した場合,50HV以上の硬さの向上を確認した.

    カーボンオニオンを用いた最大高さサブナノメートルの超精密研磨において研磨速度の向上を検討した.砥粒の突き出し量や切り込み深さを変化させるために,研磨パッドの材質や砥粒の粒径,研磨圧力を変化させて研磨を行った結果,硬質のスウェードパッドで小さな粒径の砥粒を用いることで到達面粗さを維持しつつ研磨速度が向上した.また,研磨圧力によらず超精密研磨が達成されたが,研磨速度に大きな差はみられなかった.

    Functional group on silica surface is controlled for modification of wettability. Silica substrate is firstly terminated with trifluoromethyl group (-CF_3) by silane coupling treatment, which exhibits high hydrophobicity. The surface is then modified by laser irradiation with various power and scan speed to control quantity of released -CF_3 group. Contact angle decreases with the increasing of irradiated laser energy from 110° to 40°. The quantity of the released -CF_3 group is evaluated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and the result indicates gradual decreasing of the group. Its trend is well corresponding to the decreasing of the contact angle. Transmittance of visible light and surface morphology observed by SEM are not changed by the laser irradiation, therefore it is indicated that there is not physical damage during the modification. The proposed modification is applied to surface channel drawing by laser and purified water selectively expands within the modified area.

    Self-assembled silica nanosphere is proposed as thermal imprint mold instead of conventional mold which is textured by photo-lithography or laser irradiation. Silica nanosphere slurry with 6μm and 500nm in diameter are used and their concentrations are prepared to obtain suitable self-assembled arrangement. The arrangements are then imprinted on PMMA plate with heating and loading. Under proper conditions, the geometries of the arrangements are transferred. The depth and diameter of the transferred pattern are evaluated and they depend on the imprint conditions.

    This study focuses on the surface modification of SiC films by heat treatment using induction heating and laser irradiation. As the result of structural analysis, D band and G band appeared in Raman spectra of heat-treated SiC films, which did not appear in that of untreated SiC films, thus carbon layers were formed by heat treatment. The result of the nanoindentation hardness test indicated that the hardness of carbon layers was about 1.5 times as high as that of untreated SiC films. As the result of the friction test, the friction coefficient of heat-treated SiC films was lower than that of untreated SiC films, which indicated that carbon layers had self-lubrication and decreased the friction.

    Monitoring the wear life of the tribological amorphous carbon (a-C) film through luminescent spectroscopy is proposed. The monitoring can be achieved by detecting the degree of luminescence from the layer that is located under a-C film. Hence, the structure of the coating consists of substrate/luminescent sensing layer/a-C layer. In this study, fabrication and characterisation of such coating structure are presented. Firstly, the coating structure, in which the luminescent sensing layer is ZnS:Mn thin films, was fabricated. The thin films were deposited by R.F. magnetron sputtering in argon plasma and post-annealing at 700°C. Subsequently, a-C films were deposited onto the luminescent layer by R.F. magnetron sputtering. The structures of the coatings as well as luminescent properties were analysed. However, due to the requirement of high temperature annealing to enhance the luminescent properties of ZnS:Mn thin film, silica coatings containing CdSe/ZnS quantum dot powder prepared from polysilazane precursor solution were also fabricated for another candidate for luminescent layer. The process is found to be simpler and requires significantly lower temperature annealing process.

    Thin film shape memory materials including shape memory alloys (SMAs) have the advantages of high recovery stress and strain, therefore they are promising materials for MEMS actuators. To apply SMAs to MEMS actuators, it's important to characterize the material properties such as phase transformations and thermal hysteresis, because the properties may limit the response speed and the operating temperature range of the actuators. For high-throughput characterization and development of novel SMAs, a combinatorial approach is focused on. In this paper, in measurement method of phase transformations using thermography which we have proposed, we attempted to measure the transformation temperatures of small SMA samples of thin film library and verified the applicability of the combinatorial approach to the measurement method of phase transformations using thermography. As results, we achieved to measure the transformation temperatures of considerable samples on the thin film library and showed the potential for the applicability of the combinatorial approach to the proposed method.

    In this paper, an approach to improve in sensitivity for detecting the phase-transformation (crystallization) of a thin film amorphous alloy is introduced. In combinatorial method for evaluating the crystallization temperature of thin film amorphous alloys using thermography, the crystallization is detected by change in thermal emissivity due to crystallization of the amorphous sample. In general, the emissivity is known to be dependent on material, and its surface conditions (for example, oxidation, and roughness). This study focused on surface roughness of the sample, the influence of the sample surface roughness on the change in the apparent emissivity due to the crystallization of the sample was examined. As results, the rate of the change in the apparent emissivity is amplified by adjusting the surface roughness, and the detection sensitivity of the transformation can be improved.

    We proposed novel high-throughput characterization method of crystallization property of thin film amorphous alloys for combinatorial searching approach. Crystallization of integrated, deposited, thin and tiny amorphous alloy samples can be detected at once by a commercial thermography as changes of their emissivity. In this report, high-throughput characterization of crystallization temperature (Tx) was demonstrated using three thin film libraries on which compositional distributed PdCuSi thin film amorphous samples were deposited by combinatorial arc plasma deposition. As a result, Txs of 285 samples were evaluated and it took only 14 days. Two Txs selected from the all 285 evaluated Txs were compared with results of conventional method, differentials scanning calorimetry. The maximum difference of the two methods was 8K. In terms of throughput, the proposed method achieved 10 times speed than the conventional method and 66% reduction of characterization time. From these results, the proposed method is powerful tool for combinatorial searching for novel thin film amorphous alloys.

    Thin film shape memory materials including shape memory alloys (SMAs) are promising smart materials for MEMS actuators because of its large recovery stress and strain. For development of novel SMAs, combinatorial approach is focused on. However, the approach requires high-throughput characterization method of thin film SMAs. In this paper, we proposed novel measurement method of phase transformation temperatures of SMAs for combinatorial approach, which means applicable method to integrated thin film samples. The method use thermography and detect two-way transformation as emissivity change. The proposed method is demonstrated on Ti-Pd-Ni SMA sample which is heated and then cooled in vacuum furnace, and as results, clear changes of emissivity can be detected in both cases. The results are then compared with electrical resistivity change and results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It is then turned out that the detected temperatures of emissivity change correspond with the conventional transformation temperatures. The result of this paper is precursor to achieve the high-throughput characterization of transformation temperatures of thin film SMAs.

    This paper reports the use of a novel Pt-free amorphous alloy as a material for a glass lens molding die with diffraction gratings. The properties required of the amorphous alloy are as follows: (a) the alloy must not exhibit crystallization or oxidization and must not adhere to glass, when a glass molds on the die of the amorphous alloy in air, (b) it must be able to ultra-precision machined by single-point diamond turning (SPDT); (c) it must have a tensile strength of greater than 1 GPa. We employed a combinatorial search using combinatorial arc plasma deposition to search for the amorphous alloy that satisfied the above criteria. Ni-Nb-Zr amorphous alloy was selected from the results of the combinatorial search. The Ni_<35>Nb_<40>Zr_<25> alloy satisfied all the above criteria and it was possible to fabricate a molding die by SPDT using it.

    In this paper, we develop a novel high-throughput characterization method of crystallization temperature on a thin film library with thin film composition spread. Crystallization temperature of thin film amorphous alloy can be detected as a change of emissivity using a thermography. For this method, a particular thin film library which has temperature reference area and tantalum covered grid is proposed and fabricated by MEMS process. Here, Pd-Cu-Si thin film library is deposited using combinatorial arc plasma deposition and 107 amorphous samples are confirmed on the library by X-ray diffraction as deposition with wide distribution of Pd at.%. The thin film library is heated by IR heater with thermography monitoring and crystallization temperature of 95 amorphous samples on the library can be detected at once.

    Recently, the fabrication of functional aspherical optical glass lenses with diffraction gratings has been expected. Until now, we searched for Pt-based amorphous alloys as novel glass lens molding die materials using combinatorial method. Although Pt-based amorphous alloys showed good properties for glass lens molding die materials, they are very expensive. In this study, we report the properties of Ni-Nb-Zr thin film amorphous alloys for functional glass lens molding die materials.

    This paper describes the search for Pt-Zr-Ni thin film amorphous alloys for use as optical glass lens molds. Three Pt-Zr-Ni thin film libraries were fabricated by a combinatorial arc plasma deposition. From the results of an X-ray diffractmetry and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, the amorphous composition region was decided in the Pt-Zr-Ni system. Three Pt-Zr-Ni thin film amorphous samples that were expected to exhibit high crystallization temperature (T_x) were fabricated using a carousel type sputtering system. The samples were evaluated in terms of various properties: T_x, mechanical properties, anti-sticking properties to molten glass, and machinability, in order to find the most suitable composition for the optical glass lens molding die. As a result, Pt_<50>Zr_<36>Ni_<14> was found to be a suitable composition for a new functional glass lens molding die molding die material. This sample exhibited a T_x of 985 K, fracture stress of 2.1 GPa, excellent anti-sticking properties to molten glass, and good machinability, which was improved by modifying the fabrication method. Finally, we fabricated a glass lens mold with diffraction gratings from Pt_<50>Zr_<36>Ni_<14> amorphous alloy.

    A new combinatorial method to deposit metallic thin films using an arc plasma, combinatorial arc plasma deposition (CAPD), was applied to search for novel compositions of thin film metallic glasses (TFMGs) as new MEMS materials. The CAPD setup includes three arc plasma guns (APGs). with each gun shooting a pulse-like plasma of constituent elements at specific time intervals to deposit a compositionally-graded metallic thin film on an SiO_2 substrate. First, a Pd-based compositionally-graded thin film was deposited to search for the lowest resistivity composition of Pd-Cu-Si TFMGs. As the result, the Pd_<81>Cu_5Si_<14> at.% sample showed the lowest absolute resistivity of 64 μΩ・cm and a supercooled liquid region (SCLR) temperature range (ΔTx = Tx - Tg) of 50K. Next, we found out a novel Ru-Zr-Al TFMG by CAPD. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the two sputter-deposited samples Ru_<65>Zr_<30>Al_5 and Ru_<67>Zr_<25>Al_8 had a SCLR. Moreover, the samples exhibited superior mechanical properties.

    本研究では,新材料の開発のために,薄膜状のサンプルを多数集積した薄膜ライブラリ上で,線膨張係数aと縦弾性係数Eの同時評価を可能とする方法について検討した.具体的には,aとEが既知の薄膜と,評価対象の薄膜からなるバイレイヤ片持ばりを加熱し,その投影長さ(たわみ)の変化からaとEを同時評価する方法を考案した.数値解析より,本方法でaとEの評価精度を明らかにし,実験による基礎的検討を行った.
