    Establishing the highly-sensitive detection technique is significant for organic, bio-, and analytical chemistry. Single-molecule detection is the ultimate goal for this purpose. In this study, we aimed to develop a methodology for detecting SERS spectra of single molecules with high reproducibility.
    To achieve this purpose, we developed the four-terminal electrochemical measurement system and surveyed the SERS spectra depending on the adsorption spectra.
    Our electrochemical system detected the reactant and product controlled by the bias voltage. Besides, we were able to clarify the behavior of SERS spectra corresponding to the junction structure, and in particular, for naphthalene molecular junctions, we were able to clarify the effect of charge transfer due to the junction structure on the SERS spectra. Therefore, we obtained clues for realizing reliable single-molecule detection.

    In this research, we measured surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) induced at structurally well-defined gold nanodimers and at single-molecule junction. Using well-defined gold nanostructures, we revealed that the role of the chemical effect on the SERS enhancement and the plasmon-induced decomposition reaction. We then utilized SERS in order to recognize the adsorption sates in single-molecule junctions. By utilizing SERS and current- voltage measurements, we observed distinct conductance states in the single-molecule junctions such as C60.

    In this research, the shot noise measurement system and conductance measurement system for single-atomic/molecule junction were established with a view to clarify the electric property of single-atomic/molecule junction. The established measurement system was applied to the single-atomic/molecule junctions. Especially, the gold atomic contact in the presence of pyrazine molecule showed interesting phenomena.
    Gold atomic contact was fabricated using mechanically controllable break junction technique. The shot noise measurements together with the conductance measurement verified that gold atomic contact has the one conductance channel with perfect transmission without pyrazine; on the other hand, it has additional channels with pyrazine. The presence of the additional channel is explained by the interaction between pyrazine and gold.

  • 単一分子分光により規定した単分子接合の新規物性探索

    本研究では、以下の二点を主な目的としている。
    1. 単分子接合特有の物性の探求
    2. 単分子接合の物性の分光法による特徴付け
    昨年度の研究成果より非共有電子対を持つπ共役系を含んだ分子接合が特異な物性を発現することが示唆された。平成25年度では単分子接合特有の物性探索として、銅一窒素系に着目して研究を開始した。極低温、窒素雰囲気下においてMechanically controllable break junction法により銅ナノ接合の物性の評価を行った。結果、単体では単原子鎖が形成されにくい銅原子において、銅原子と窒素分子と複合系を作ることによって、銅単原子鎖を作製することに成功した。次に単分子接合に固有な現象の開拓の一環として、ナノギャップ間におけるプラズモンによる光増強効果に着目して研究を展開した。モデル系として金ナノ粒子を基板上に作製する際に形成されるナノギャップを利用し、二次元系においてナノギャップで引き起こされる光学反応の探索を行った。結果、エポキシ樹脂の光重合反応を観測することに成功した。現在、金ナノ粒子を作製し、気体分子光開裂反応やハロゲン化アルキルの光還元反応を試みている。
    分光法に関しては本研究では新たな手法として単分子接合のノイズ計測の確立を目指している。昨年度までの研究により単分子接合の機械的な安定性が重要であることが示唆されたため、本年度は安定な単分子接合が作製することができる微細加工電極で電気伝導測定ができるように、計測システムの作製を行なった。現在、金単原子接合の作製に成功し、分光計測に向けて進展中である。
