    極めて高度なレベルに達している冷却原子系の制御技術のなかでも、特に、原子間の相互作用を磁場により任意かつ精密に実時間制御するフェッシュバッハ共鳴法により、様々な可能性が拓かれつつある。本研究では、冷却原子系として極めて大きな質量比を有するエルビウムとイッテルビウム、およびリチウムの超低温原子混合系を実験的に生成し、その特異な性質を実験的に解明することにより、クラスター階層の物理の理解を深化させることを目標とする。特に、まず、重原子と軽原子間の相互作用を磁場により制御するフェッシュバッハ共鳴法を開発し、次に、「普遍的なクラスター状態」としてのエフィモフ3量体を観測しエネルギー構造の解明を行う。これらにより、階層をつなぐ共通物理現象の理解を深めることに貢献する。
    この研究目的に向けて、まず、昨年度までに開発した、重いエルビウム原子と軽いリチウム原子、さらにイッテルビウム原子の超低温混合気体を用いて、リチウムおよびエルビウム原子のフェッシュバッハ共鳴を観測した結果を論文としてまとめた。また、このフェッシュバッハ分子の束縛エネルギーを決定するためのラマン分光システムを開発し、実験を開始した。また、混合気体の超低温化を目指して、1550nmの光トラップ光源を導入し、それを用いた光トラップを行い、期待された原子の長寿命化を確認した。さらに、光格子中の原子の3体力についても、フェッシュバッハ共鳴を有する同位体170Ybを用いた占有数分解超高分解能レーザー分光実験を開始した。

    We have theoretically uncovered/predicted various properties of topological quantum phases and emergent exotic quasiparticles, which highlight new aspects of materials science. In particular, we have conducted the researches with special emphasis on correlation, symmetry and nanoscience, and thereby elucidated novel phenomena originating from the exotic quasi-particles in topological insulators, superconductors, semimetals and magnets. These results have enabled us to find universal properties behind the individual topological materials and reveal the basic laws controlling them.

    In this research project, I studied various quantum few-body and many-body phenomena that are realized with ultracold atoms. In particular, the last two years are devoted to hydrodynamics with spacetime-dependent scattering length and I showed that the spacetime-dependent scattering length appears in hydrodynamic equations with a bulk viscosity by using nonrelativistic general coordinate invariance and conformal invariance. Furthermore, the bulk viscosity in the high-temperature limit was computed with a systematic expansion in terms of fugacity.

    Physics is said to be universal when it emerges regardless of the underlying microscopic details. A prominent example is the Efimov effect, which predicts the emergence of an infinite tower of three-body bound states obeying discrete scale invariance when the particles interact resonantly. Motivated by the recent proposal that the Efimov effect of magnons can be realized in quantum magnets, the electron spin resonance in dilute magnon gases was studied in this research. Also, it was shown that the Efimov effect can be realized with heavy pions, in principle, in lattice QCD. Furthermore, it was shown that the discrete scale invariance emerges for Dirac fermions subject to strong Coulomb potential.
